I would also not mind seeing the Killers doing the theme, just don't give me anymore rock music (even though Casino Royale was good and QOS was sub-par). I think it is time for a song that can be enjoyed on and off the screen and integrated right into the movie at some point (unlike QOS). I've always wanted the Killers to give it a try but I want something similar to the old days and the stretch between goldfinger and live and let die. I honestly want to see Beyonce re-make Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
B)

I think Beyonce is so overrated, there's nothing really special about her (beyond the hotness), she's just another average american R&B singer, there're thousands like her in those TV programs like American Idol. She doesn't have a very distinctive and great voice like Shirley Bassey or Tina Turner.

Maybe Beyonce can appear in the titles sequence though?

Since Shirley Bassey and David Arnold are doing an album together ... not that I'm that keen on David Arnold.

As for me, they should get someone that is better than Alicia Keys. (no offense)but the song wasn't the best. Personally I think the QOS game had a better Bond theme song than the movie. I prefer the game theme song oevr the movie. But by far every Bond theme song has been good.

I'd be up for Clapton on a title track, as long as it was more of a rock song instead of the blues direction that he's been going in with his music lately (which is quite good, but probably not a good fit for Bond).

You don't enjoy rock music?

Not really I'll take something contemporary, something along the lines of The Living Daylights or something jazzy like the old ones

Heres a link to the song, I think Beyonce would be great doing it, they would have to make it more upbeat and modern but it would work well

I have like two different versions of the song on my computer. I know her voice is taylored towards a song like and I agree it can be made modern and more up-beat. I feel like if there was ever a time to remake a song from previous bond movies, this is the song to remake because it talks about Bond specifically and no a storyline or plot or anything.

Call me radical, but I don't think we actually need a song. Lets be brutally honest, the last good Bond song was Goldeneye, and that was 14 years ago. All the title songs since then have been "meh" (TND, YKMN) to "Oh my God, I'm being raped in the ear!" (DAD, AWTD). They just aren't gettin it.

At the same time, David Arnold is doing some stunning things with the films scores. I say use some of his work. Lets go the OHMSS route and have a title piece of music instead of another awful song. I think the title songs are the one unnecassary relic of the past to survive the reboot. Lets go the whole hog and realy move forward. The series is hitting heights it has never hit before with the new direction, lets keep going.

Having said that, I don't think for a second they'll consider it, but I think its the right way to go.

SO many generalisations, so little fact...

Tina Turner was NOT the last decent Bond song. That is opinion. Not fact.

ANOTHER WAY TO DIE was actually a very funky and contemporary sounding tune that aids the film perfectly. Whether it was like a 1967 classic Bond tune is irrelevant.

Although I agree that an instrumental theme tune could work. But it would not be something some would like. We are not in the lush age of Barry orchestrations any more.

I'd be fine with them doing away with the title sequence. As you said, there haven't been that many good songs in a long time (I like YKMN, but the rest of the title tracks dating back to AVTAK have been rather average at the very best), and given that each song has to adhere to the typical Bond "sound", there's a lot of limitations put on the artists who have to come up with the title track. I think that they should either allow for more experimentation with the songs in terms of their sound (i.e. not sounding like a typical "Bond song") or just do away with the title song and the title sequence altogether.

I'm fine with keeping the title sequence, it worked really well in CR because they made it into an actual part of the movie, which made all the bigger shame they reverted to randomly throwing together tired Bond cliches for QOS (when have the sillouettes of naked dnacing girls been less approriate?). Using the big block primary colours for CR was a great contrast to the B&W opening.

At least YKMN was approproiate to the film, even it wasn't a great song. AWTD was just another collection of tired cliches. Since EON have such a great grasp of what Flemings vision truly IS with every other area of the films, its shame to see this area lacking. Many QOS reviews spend some time saying how bad the title song was and I agree. It sounds alright, and it may have fitted a Brosnan-era film, but its a black mark against QOS. The new age Bond is all about invention and originality, lets see some here too.

I would actually say AWTD is detrimental to the film, as completely incongruous to it's tone. The lyrics jovially mock Bond, while Alicia and White scream, in mess of John Barry inflicted funk rock.

Though I wholeheartedly agree with your last comment. The scores desperately need to a breath of fresh air in terms of a new composer, to see how it fits Craig's Bond.
Though I won't mind a full blown instrumental of Arnold's "Inside Man" theme- definitely one of the best tracks he's produced... er sorry I mean "composed"....

I agree. INSIDE MAN is a cracking burst of Bond music - and particularly non-Arnold too.

I disagree on your thoughts on ANOTHER WAY TO DIE. The lyrics of Bond songs have "jovially mocked" Bond since the days of Matt Munro. They are are meant to be a sardonic homage to the man and his world. DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER is about oral sex (check any interview with Don Black) and THUNDERBALL is about a man's near-erotic obsession with Bond. ANOTHER WAY TO DIE is far from detrimental to SOLACE. It is a song on the run. As is the film.

Well Zorin I have to agree with you in all aspects of this conversation/argument.
Going back to the start of it, I dont think there has been a BAD title song since Goldeneye in my opinion, although Madonnas song was fairly border line, I still managed to enjoy it, Garbage and Sheryl Crow did fantastic title songs.
I wasn't a huge fan of another way to die at 1st, but it defiantly grew on me, and now I quite like it. Alica's voice is a bit pitchy but its nothing horrible.
Chris Cornell's 'You know my name' wasn't short of amazing either. So from someone with the opinion that Goldeneye was the last decent theme song I can see why you don't want another one, I feel sorry for you.

I think keeping the title sequences is a must. They contribute to make these films feel different than your average action movie, regardless of the quality of the song.

And AWTD gets better with each listen for me.

I think the Cure would be a good choice, although I'm not sure what they sound like now or even if they are together or not. I'm just going off their older material, like "Love Song"
