International fan meet up

If I am right then I'd suggest this;
Have a screening at the NFT (if possible - and great idea Loomis, thanks!) of Goldfinger. How many people have seen that on the big screen? Few I'd suggest! So I think an afternoon or evening watching Goldfinger would be appropriate. Especially considering it's the 40th Annivesary of the film.
And then, on another day, at another location, I think it would be appropriate to watch the 54 CR.

We could screen five of the films on the big screen, each on a different night (I say we should drop The World Is Not Enough). We could have a late afternoon screening of that day's film, and then afterwords we could all get together and have dinner with our special guests. Maybe we could have each day themed after that night's film and book?
If we have a guest speaker we could open the screening to the public and charge around $10 for admittance per night (or, say, $45 for the five films). That way we could afford to see the five films. We can't charge anyone to see the film because we can't make any money for the screening.
More ideas as the come to me....

For Queen and Country
The James Bond Themed Fan Gathering

And then each individual event had it's own name. Maybe the first one is in London, so it could be called For England James..., and the second one might be in Russia so it could be called From Russia With Love etc...
Any thoughts on that?
I Definetley think that the The James Bond Themed International Fan Gathering is too long and requires some work.

I've been thinking about lapel pins for the event. About a quarter (20p coin) size. Circular with gun barrel as the background.
A simple 2004 in gold across the middle.
Everyone who attends gets one. We do the same for the following (hopefully) years.

How about that without the "themed" and the tag line "For England" - Isn't that the locale we're aiming for?

or (given our potential tag-line) -
Gun Barrel w/ "For England" with a smaller 2004 beneath it?

And without talking to the powers that be, it ahs to be a James Bond themed event, as opposed to a James Bone event. Weird legalities says me.

I don't want to have Eon mad at us, and I don't want to end up mad at Eon. I don't think anyone here wants to steop on any toes.

Shucks
I think everyone's coming up with some pretty good ideas, the idea about some stuff for the literary Bond is pretty good and normally overlooked.
Christ, think of the logistics of all this! Phew!
Checking out some of IF's old haunts would be pretty good to! Hell, we'll book Scott's out or something
Apparently i've read that 22b Ebury St where he lived b4 the war is right near Buckingham Palace (he gave it as a location in MR as Drax's London flat)
All in all seems to be coming together quite well! But what kind of numbers would we be looking at is the problem! Pinewood and that might have No limits etc

I'm not in the mood to be "protected" yet again from MGM, but ultimately we will have to deal with them. Whenever we do, let's be professional, cordial and open (thus pouring a little salt in their wounds over how they treated us) and maybe, just maybe we'll impress them enough to revoke their legal standpoint on the sites. If nothing else, show what an incredible fan-base is really out there.
and yes Jordan and Blue Eyes...where is that Zencat?
"replies to our Amsterdam, Cairo and Madrid inquiries, all negative....";)

Presumably (and obviously this would be months down the line when we've worked everything out) we'd all have to buy tickets in advance, to cover costs of film screenings, meeting rooms, speakers' expenses, etc. etc. This is cool with me, as I'm sure it would be for just about everyone, and I know that none of us is interested in making a buck out of this, BUT I find it hard to see how the "legal guardians" of the world of James Bond couldn't use this as an excuse to make trouble.... if they wanted to, that is.
Any lawyers round here wanna think about possible obstacles?

I don't think we're at a point that requires legal services, but Old Bryce has forwarded this whole post to his attorney just to see where/what our concerns should be when setting this up. He's certainly appreciative of our situation and he does know his stuff. He also can't fathom why MGM acted as they did (pages or not) rather than simply make a request.
Anyway, we're on somebody's radar. Just in case....
Now, let's get back to ideas -
The best way is to contact Eon directly, then answer to MGM if we have to. At least is seems like a good strategy.
Do what you can in the UK Jordan. You've obviously got some contacts that could help us out....Oh, and Charter....Come back alive.

Fox! I've not been thinking outside the US box!
Hmmm.
*Bryce double checks some Fox Intl. numbers in his Palm Pilot*
Mr. Charter - you may not be the only one with some juice.....
BUT, we must deal with/approach Eon first.
*Bryce reaches for phone and double checks IM addresses*
Cue track 4, TWINE soundtrack....

If we were to charge admission to whatever movie we view, we could be hit for copyright infringement if it looks like we will profit from such an event.
Otherwise...speakers are free to speak to whomever they wish, and if people want to bring their own memorabilia, that's fine too...no one can stop them. If MGM tries, they are infringing on the rights of those people, and MGM goes on the hook for Constitutional violations.

"If we were to charge admission to whatever movie we view, we could be hit for copyright infringement if it looks like we will profit from such an event." That was what I was trying to say in my last post, but I couldn't quite figure out how to put it into words. And not just movie screenings, we'd also need to make sure everyone coughed up some cash to cover venue costs, speakers' expenses, the whole damned shooting match.
That said, as you point out, Xenobia, we all have freedom of assembly. But the issue of money changing hands may very well be a tough one to square with the Bond people.
Advertising and promotion of the event (especially if outside of this site and its users and to the - excuse the term - public at large [yes, I know we're all Joe Public but U no what I mean]) could also be a potential source of trouble from The Man. Because then we couldn't just claim (if we needed to, that is) that we're just a bunch of folks who know each other who have decided to meet up.

Yeah I mentioned about him coming along above
I wouldn't be fussed if he didn't actually make a speech, it'd be nice to have him there to talk to (if that'd be possible?).
Would it possible to get him and the others I mentioned?

But just to let you all know that Jordan Charter and myself have taken this project under our wings and we're working on it behind the scenes.
The location has been chosen as London.
We'll let you know more definites as they come to hand. Until then please do keep giving us suggestions as they've all been great so far!

We've got no need to worry about this, and I will now tell you why... We are planning on having celebrity guests. We can get the celebrities to speak before our film showings, therefore we can charge for people to see the guest speaker and NOT the actual film itself. Crisis #1 averted.

I doubt this would be possible, since he lives in the US. I might be able to persuade him... I do have a little pull with him.
Although, I think it would be cool if we could get all the surviving Bond authors together for our event. I know Christopher Wood lives in France, but I don't have his address/phone... yet.
