Jaguar XK-R, yeah now were talking. Any other suggestions?
Ian, can you shed some light on who else was tested for the role of Mr Templar and was Rupert Friend one of them?

I second the Hirondel. BTW, the rare Hirondel was made in Coventry UK, if that is the case, then ladies and gents I give you www.lyonheart.com. Ultra rare and limited and made in the UK. Yes, it looks like an E-type Jag.
Ooh yes.

I don't think it would be fair to Adam to detail the competition for the role just yet, but I will sometime in the future. Rupert Friend's name was mentioned but he didn't test for the role.

Appreciate it Ian. When can we see Mr Rayner as ST i.e. promo posters, pictures and will they feature the Stickman?
Any decision on what ST will be driving, is it British, Japanese, Italian?
Posted 15 December 2012 - 10:57 PM
We start shooting principal photography on Monday however there is a two week break for Christmas. I could be wrong but I think the big promo push will start in the New Year.
Yes, the stickman will feature.
The Saint will be driving several cars.

I've just posted a photo of the new Saint and Patricia at www.simontemplar.tv

Terrific pic! Glad to see Mr Rayner has ditched his tramp dragged through a hedgerow look from Hunted. The Saint is well and truly back. Never thought I'd live to see the day.
Ian, just read on The Saint Online that someone believes Ian Ogilvy and Sir Roger are filming a cameo this week. Please tell me it's true. Is there any chance of a Simon Dutton appearance?
Posted 18 December 2012 - 06:19 AM
Ian is definitely filming his cameo tomorrow (Tuesday). Don't know when Roger's due but he should be on camera as well. And we're talking to Simon.

When i have a little more time I'll post it on the web site, but for now the Facebook group for the new show (http://www.facebook....81472835224894/) has a photo of a certain Mr Moore who was filming his part today...

To be frank, I think the answer is in your question.Don't the copyright holders quite know how to adapt the character, or is it some copyright issue by itself?
If you are familiar with the books, the closest a screen adaptation has come to capturing Charteris' character was in the first three or four b/w RKO films, and since then the character has veered further and further away from anything Charteris had in mind.
Why such dedication towards 'reimagining' the Saint is considered is beyond me when there has yet to be a faithful adaptation from which to reimagine in the first place. Try 'imagining' first, and then reimagine.
I think the Purefoy film had Templar being part of a gang of people or some such - at this stage I am happy if it never comes to light.
Couln't agree with you more.Leslie charteris' character has never portrayed well on the screen. Can't imagine who would do him justice from modern stars.
Agree George Sanders was the best.Even he didn't really come close to the books ruthless, debonair character.
Leave him be.

Charteris considered Roger to be the best, and he didn't like Sanders' interpretation at all. And I hardly think Louis Hayward was in any way a definitive Saint - dreadfully miscast, he was he too short, too private-eye-y and too American.

Rather nice to see that the old Volvo P1800S is back, ST 1 plate and all.
They're doing a Bond! Get the old DB5 in it and don't worry about why!

"It's not a reboot and it's not a remake"
That's an odd thing to say. Does that mean that this is a new Templar? Is Roger actually playing the original Saint again?
(I like the caption on that first photo too! )
Posted 30 January 2013 - 11:49 AM
Is it in fact Ian Ogilvy and not Roger Moore in that photo?
Posted 30 January 2013 - 12:37 PM
Yeah that's why I love it

Ah, ok.

Probably, but I don't think Leslie ever compared the later Saints to Roger. He liked Ian Ogilvy in the role. On casting Simon Dutton he said he was the image of the character he had been writing about. I don't think he ever got to see Andrew Clarke.
And I hardly think Louis Hayward was in any way a definitive Saint - dreadfully miscast, he was he too short, too private-eye-y and too American.
Depending on the source, Hayward was about as tall as the current Bond (I agree he looked shortish) - e.g. IMDB lists him as 5' 10½".
Although Hayward became an American citizen, he was actually born in South Africa and raised mostly in England. To many he was an English actor, which was why he made so many films playing characters with English accents (presumbly, his own). I read somewhere, he felt he couldn't be in a film with Dirk Bogarde because they would cancel each other out, from which one could infer that he saw himself as English.
