The Dolph talks about his role in The Expendables!
http://blog.movieset...pendables-info/
Thanks, dino. Even though I can't pull up the interview, the excitement beams through the blank screen. Did Stallone really break his arm? I wonder, if true, if he had to work that into the script. Naw, Sly's too macho. He probably reset himself. Good as new!

who among you great cinematic warriors can identify all of the films that have been cobbled together to make this?

"looks like we have a Church and man it is great casting. Should be able to announce it very soon..."
this clip whets my appetites:
Sheryl Main’s Twitter page (Sly’s publicist) announced that the character Church has been casted for the “Expendables”, and expect this one to be a huge surprise…
http://twitter.com/marialascala
My 5 guesses for Church that are pretty likely:
Bruce Willis, Kurt Russell, Tom Cruise, John Travolta, and Dwayne Johnson?
Sly tried to get Kurt Russell in the “Expendables” before, but Russell turned it down and not interested, but that can always change.
As for my pick for Dwayne Johnson, Sly might like the idea of the Rock and Stone Cold starring in the same movie together. Dwayne isn’t a bad choice for a cast addition of “The Expendables”.
I expect movie websites like Variety or The Hollywood Reporter to announce the casting of Church, maybe next week?

1. It's supposedly the most awesome piece of casting news under the sun. Cruise, Russell, Willis and so forth are all very well, but none of them is a giant, a legend like Eastwood. Heck, no one is.
2. Church is, if I'm understanding things correctly, a pretty old guy. Yer Cruises and yer The Rocks are way too young.
So I reckon it's Clint. Or maybe Redford. But probably Clint.

I think it'll be Eastwood. I'm basing this on two things:
I hope you're right. That choice bit of casting will launch this baby right into the box office stratosphere.

My guess is Bruce Willis, because of the "old buddy" factor. Imagine Bruce, Sly, and Arnold at the premiere, its the ultimate action team-up that was often discussed in the Planet Hollywood days.
Or, from out of left field...Mel Gibson? Hasn't been too busy lately. Might do it for a laugh, etc.

Anyway, we'll soon know. A seemingly reliable post on a Sly fansite I was looking at informs me that the actor playing Church will be announced tomorrow.

Yeah, Clint is rather Mr Serious these days. Plus, I don't think he's ever been a particular buddy or fan of Stallone (I may be wrong, though).

I'm going all in on it being Bruce Willis. This was posted on the blog today :
"waiting 4 the i's 2 be dotted and the t's to be crossed on the Church deal but the rumor is Sly Arnold & Church in a scene togethr"
Sly, Arnold, and Bruce...the Holy Trinity of action stars from the 80s/90s, finally together in one scene? It all makes sense and will be a big talking point.

In one of his AICN Q&As when ROCKY BALBOA was released, Stallone made a comment to the effect that he thought Craig and Bond would lead a new wave of intelligent action movies. It's a safe bet that Sly has seen CASINO ROYALE and admires Craig (and his physique). In the beefcake stakes, Craig would certainly be able to hold his own in the muscular company of Stallone, Statham, Lundgren, Rourke and the rest.
Furthermore, Church is - as I understand it - a villain, and we all know how Hollywood loves to cast Brits as bad guys. Craig could be a musclebound version of Alan Rickman in DIE HARD, which I'm sure Stallone would love.

Seeing the three amigos together would be fun, but to be honest I'm hoping for a more off the wall casting decision. As much as I love Bruce, casting him will certainly increase my anticipation* for the film, but it will neither drop my jaws nor blow my mind.

Yeah I feel the same way. Although seeing them together would be cool, Bruce is somewhat "less special" than Sly and Arnold, probably because he generally appears in far more (bad) movies than the others, and will do a cameo in almost anything, i.e. Grindhouse, Nancy Drew(!), Alpha dog, Oceans 12, etc.
As for Craig, damn that would be fantastic. In fact he doesn't appear to be busy at the moment, having completed his shoot for Tintin. Hmm!

Thanks, dino. The way ethelmae's press release reads, it almost seems to suggest that Arnold will be...Church.
