My top choices are currently Katherine Bigelow and Peter Weir.

Weir would be wonderful. I wonder if they could get him to do it.

I'm not so hot on the idea of Bigelow. She's definitely a hotter name these days thanks to THE HURT LOCKER, but since I wasn't impressed by that film or any previous film she's done, I'm not crazy about the idea. Still, she's one of the more likely names that have been bandied about.

Again, Kathryn Bigelow or Guy Ritchie.

Please no, not Guy Ritchie. That would be as bad as re-hiring Lee Tamahori.

Exceptionally doubtful. Indeed, I'd say impossible.

But a sorta poor man's Peter Weir is Phillip Noyce (who in turn is, erm, a rich man's Lee Tamahori), and I gather he was considered for DIE ANOTHER DAY. He can be a bit hacktastic, of course, but I'd love to see him tackle Bond on the form he showed with CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER and THE QUIET AMERICAN.

But my gut (which is often very, very wrong indeed) keeps rumbling the name Michael Winterbottom as the director of BOND 23. And I think he'd be great. If, that is, Eon will continue in the Experimental™ vein of QUANTUM OF SOLACE. If not, then forget him.

Defintely not Winterbottom, or Forsterbottom either.

No more effete, pretentious artistes, and more hard-knuckled thriller directors. Directors who understand the art of suspense with Sartrean introspection, tongue in cheek sardonic humour, coupled with an affinity for high living.

That is Bond.

I haven't seen Sherlock Holmes yet, perhaps it's wonderful, but even if it is he would have to do at least one, preferably two, other decent movie(s) not in his dreary "geezer" mode before I would happy seeing him anywhere near Bond.

Campbell can film Craig like no other as Greg Williams can photograph Craig like no other.

Well "wonderful" is going too far, but I must admit Ritchie did a much better job than I ever expected, despite a couple of serious missteps, but then again we all know how some of Forster's artistic flourishes went down. I'm still not yearning for a Richie Bond, but I would no longer dread it.

If we're going a mission impossible route i'd prefer Brian De Palma the orignial Mission Impossible was extremly good.

Cheers.
I'm in complete agreement.

Mission Impossible 3 was essentially the movie version of Alias starring Tom Cruise instead of Jennifer Garner. At least she's nice to look at.

Brian De Palma's film had great cinematography and provided a great atmosphere for a spy (or Bond) film. Think of the beginning of the film shot in Prague. All of those locations would have been perfect for a Bond film... dark, mysterious, classy, European. B)

"Hurt Locker," French films win U.S. critics awards

NEW YORK (Reuters) – "The Hurt Locker," an independently made film about U.S. bomb disposal experts in Iraq, picked up several more awards on Sunday when the National Society of Film Critics chose it as the best film of 2009, solidifying its status among favored Oscar contenders.

The movie also yielded honors for its director, Kathryn Bigelow, while Jeremy Renner won best actor for his breakout role as a cocky bomb technician.

Both the New York Film Critics Circle and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association had already chosen the film and Bigelow for their top prizes.

Another great award for Ms Bigelow. B)

i think she would do a great job.

If Mendes isn't chosen, I'd like to see Phillip Noyce tackle a Bond film. Yes he is a safe choice but was convinced he could do something more then action when I saw THE QUIET AMERICAN for first time recently.

Looking at the posts above, I'd also like to see Katherine Bigelow take the job as well.

I don't know why people want Speilberg after CRYSTAL SKULL. He would deliver a mediocre film and listen to any stupid ideas Lucas gives him.

Right there with you. With all my complaints about Forster's "artistic" direction, it was a watchable film. A friend dragged me to watch SKULL. I'd originally said I wouldn't and now I wish I hadn't. One of the most inept action films I've ever seen. Badly shot, choreographed, edited (and it gave me a very bad feeling of what to expect from Dan Bradley).

My top choices are currently Katherine Bigelow and Peter Weir.

Weir would be wonderful. I wonder if they could get him to do it.

Peter Weir would be such an unusual choice I hadn't even thought of the possibility even though he's one of my old time faves. He'd certainly do an extraordinarily special/different film, as well as gifting us with Russel Boyd's cinematography.
Noyce would be a way safer choice but by no means less special.

i like to be a trend setter.

Honestly though with People claiming he will give a bond film that's dark gritty and in a from russia with love style if he can do that I'm extremly happy.

I like Mendes honestly but After watching the Ateam Trailer

here

maybe
Joe Carnahan

The a-team looks to be the first movie based on a tv show that will have the feel of the orignal but still be amazing.

But I would prefer Sam Mendes just saying if the deal falls though

If Martin Campbell was announced as the director, I would be more than happy. But I don't think it's going to happen during the remainder of the Daniel Craig era, if at all.

UI'm tempted though to go with Brian Synger Usual Suspects and Xmen were both good films and would ber good for bond 23.

I don't think that Singer would be a good choice for Bond. His X-Men movies are awful (although admittedly better than the third film), and Valkyrie was one of the most disappointing films I've seen in quite some time.

I agree. I loathe X-Men, it's an awful series. Valkyrie was terrible as well, one of the worst films of 2009, in my opinion.

I'm up for Mendes, if Eon can grab him!

Biglow would be a great idea as well, I wouldn't object,

Wow, Campbell really does understand Bond:

http://www.mi6.co.uk...d...=mi6&s=news

Can't believe Richie's name is coming up because of Holmes! Sherlock's a great, entertaining movie and a coup for Richie. I'm very happy for him and look forward to the sequel. However, the Holmes movie is really a cartoon, with cartoon action etc. Do we really want that for Bond, when it's finally on a true course? Nope.
