Having recently bought QoS because of a sale on Steam I can now post a few thoughts on the game.
I will start with the most obviousthe game is extremely short. I beat the campaign in 5.7 hours and have little reason to replay the game. To make matters worse, the game can't match me up with anyone online. So I'm glad I didn't pay full price for this.
The way the story was told was confusing, but I'm kind of glad that just kept it minimalist, because what morsels of exposition the game did try to tell was embarrassingly bad.
Next up, the objectives and level designs quite poor. I'm talking about patronising objectives like "Open the ships cargo door", you walk you character across the map and push a button and are rewarded with "Objective Completed". Yippie.
The game holds your hand in pretty much all aspects of game design: you can't open/close doors meaning there is a linear path through each of the levels; there is virtually no problem/puzzle solving and an insulting amount of explodable gas tanks.
The game is basically a shooting gallery, which isn't all bad considering the shooting action is rock solid. The cover mechanics work a treat and look/feel very Bondian as the player ducks and sprints between cover. There was also the rare surprise breaking up the shooting like the mission where Bond is poisoned.
Production values are pretty good. While the graphics and sound is of generally high quality there were weird variations. Craig's in game model looked spot on, but as a soon as he appeared in a cut-scene it didn't look quite like Craig anymore. Other characters missed the mark entirely like Mr White. Some areas looked sharp and stylised like the Opera and Venice, others maps like White's villa looked bland. The music was tried to be everything you'd expect, but nothing you'd remember.
I enjoyed QUANTUM OF SOLACE for what it was- a mindless shooting galary with a James Bond coat of paint. It was a passable experience, but I expect a lot more next time.

I have QoS to thank for preparing me for Modern Warfare 2
Other than that it was fun for the multiplayer aspect, but again MW2 is superior in that regard so I doubt I'll ever fire the game up again. Beating it once was enough.

Because I was bored, I fired up my 360 version and beat it on 007. It really isn't that hard, you just have to be patient. I read a review that described this game's shooting as slick, and I agree. This game, if a little more time and "effort" had been spent on it, it could have been a fantastic game. It is a fun way to spend a few hours, but for depth, this game gets none. A fine first try, now hopefully Activision has a grip on the formula and get it perfected.
All in all, not a bad game.
