By the end of next weekend I think QOS will mark 300m$ or even 350m$. 500m$ will be complete with the end of November. So 650m$ seems the final amount.

I think you're getting ahead of yourself. Casino Royale had a weak US Dollar working for it's International numbers...and strong 'word of mouth'. We need to see how each element falls out for this movie before settling on a number. But I admire your optimism. :(

I dont think that its optimism. 130m$ end of Friday, by 12 pm Sunday it will be about 180m$ or near 200m$. With US making 50m$ on the opening weekend the 300m$ seems gurantee not just optimistic.

I think you could be right, except it will be more like 150m today worldwide. 300m after next weekend including opening in USA is not unreasonable. 500 ny end of month is not so far fetched with Thanksgiving USA coming up. It looks unlikely not to beat Casino worldwide despite mixed word of mouth and a stronger dollar.

My name is Bond Bug on Box Office Mojo too. You would be welcome to join.

Including Austrilia, Canada and Japan which havent opened 650m$+ seems possible. I even think 700m$ is possible and it can beat YOLT which is $720,388,023 or a bit higher. (as of 6 May 2007)

I thought Twilight opens before Thanksgiving? Any ideas what the reviews are for Twilight? It's likely that there won't be a demographic overlap because more younger females are likely to see Twilight just as more younger males are likely to see Quantum Of Solace.

My fiancee is a big Twilight fan, I know Stephanie Meyer's books are hogging the best selling lists. Plus, there seems to be a lot of awareness. I mean every bookstore has a special display for her latest book and the readers are so avid they like to talk about it. I do think there is some of the same demographic. I mean the date movie, and Craig put sex appeal back into Bond. Plus all the time the media and the public are talking about Twilight, they aren't talking about Bond. But who knows if it will be a big hit or not? The people buying tickets early may be only the same ones who reserved the Twilight books early. I don't know about reviews. There is a discussion about Twilight on Mojo if you are interested in what box office nuts are saying!

Stolen from somewhere:

BO UPDATE (Early estimates)

QOS GROSSES MASSIVE $106.5 Mil IN INTERNATIONAL MARKETS
THIS WEEKEND.

CURRENT TOTAL = $160.3

James Bond is dominating the foreign box office as "Quantum of Solace" grossed $106.5 million at 9,870 playdates in 60 territories -- the 11th biggest international weekend ever.
Sony-MGM's Bondpic, which opened in the U.K., France and Sweden last weekend, has cumed $160.3 million internationally in its first 10 days.

The weekend number for "Solace" was the second largest international weekend in 2008, trailing only the $146.6 million debut of "Indiana Jones and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." It still has four major markets to open.

"Solace" opened bigger than "Casino Royale," which cumed $429 million overseas, in all 57 new markets. And in 13 territories, the Daniel Craig vehicle more than doubled the "Casino" launch.

"Solace" also posted the top openings ever in Finland, Nigeria, Romania, Slovenia, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates and the second highest number in India, Kenya and Latvia. Its Chinese launch was the second largest ever for a non-Chinese pic.

"Quantum" opens Friday in North America.

Mexico will also open Friday, followed by Australia on Nov. 19, Spain on Nov. 21 and Japan on Jan. 24.

The U.K. generated the top "Solace" number, declining 40% in its second frame to $15.1 million for a 10-day cume of $50.3 million. Germany led the openers with $15 million followed by Russia and China with $9.1 million each, South Korea with $4.5 million, Italy with $4.3, Switzerland with $3.8 million, India with $3.5 million, Denmark with $2.9 million, Norway with $2.3 and Holland with $2.2 million.

The second French frame declined 46% to $5.7 million for a 10-day cume of $20.5 million

Twilight should do good biz, but not as big as Bond and won't have near the legs. Just a hunch. :(

I fear that when it opens in USA, it may push Bond into the number two position, but those Quantum figures so far are incredible. I see this easily outgrossing Casino in USA, UK and worldwide.

Even if it does, won't be as embarrassing as penguins! :) Vampires (even teeny-bopper ones) I deal with. ;) And agree that it may well top CR's numbers. :) (did I use every smiley yet?)

Ya. Once again, WHERE'S stamper? :(

Doesn't look like it's "tanking", stamper. :)

I mean that 40 percent drop-off in the UK is actually quite respectable, I would have thought. No?

I'm expecting TWILIGHT to overtake QUANTUM in week two. After that I don't have any idea what kind of business it will do. I dunno much about TWILIGHT, other than it's Harry Potter but for teenage girls. I can't say how teenage girls equate to box office but I surmise that a #1 opening weekend would be logical.

I don't think it will last as long as QUANTUM will though.

Including Austrilia, Canada and Japan which havent opened 650m$+ seems possible. I even think 700m$ is possible and it can beat YOLT which is $720,388,023 or a bit higher. (as of 6 May 2007)

By the way, YOLT, historically Canada is included in US Domestic numbers. In other words, the US box office numbers for all movies include the Canadian numbers. As an example, of CR's $167 million, about ~$24 million was from Canada.

So, when people are predicting $200 million from "US", it actually means $200 million from North Amercia because the Canadian numbers are not reported independently. The two countries are reported as one territory.

Hope that helps in your analysis and math. :(

Thank you HildebrandRarity :)

I still think that 300m$ is possible. However %40 decline in UK shows that by end of the second weekend nearly half of the expected revenue is completed. For that reason if N.American revenue wont exceed 100m$ by end of second week it wont be able to pass 200m$. However I think it will :)

It has opened bigger than CR in every single new market, it's just a matter of keeping it up. North America's box office will be a large factor as well. This early in the game, the potential is definitely there.

I think it will outgross CR. If the general public is dissapointed then very likely Bond 23 will suffer the consequenses.
Keep in mind that numbers only went up since '95. It's bound to happen some time. They can't keep hitting homeruns all the time (by that I mean the commercial succes, not the quality of the product).

As far as box office #s go, I think everyone is discounting the fact that it has been 2 full years since the last episode and the world movie market is craving a fast-paced, action movie.... the US release schedule thus far for 2008 has been fairly light with quality offerings, so my opinion is that the opening weekend will be quite large.

My question to those posting here...

how many of you are making plans to see it within the first 7 days of release?

I know I will be in line either Friday or Saturday night to take in the latest installment which looks to totally rock!!!

It doesn't matter if that happens. "CASINO ROYALE" trailed behind the kiddie flick, "HAPPY FEET" during its entire U.S. run and still managed to become a major hit.

Quantum of Solace' to run uncontested
For the Bond sequel, the question is how big it will bow

By Carl DiOrio

Nov 12, 2008, 08:07 PM ET

Updated: Nov 12, 2008, 10:00 PM ET
You know there has been a seismic shift in the global marketplace when a studio tentpole can ring up $200 million before its U.S. bow.

That's the likelihood with this weekend's lone domestic opener, the James Bond film "Quantum of Solace" from Sony and MGM, which registered $180 million internationally by Tuesday and was ringing up foreign coin at a daily clip of $10 million this week. The Daniel Craig starrer has been playing -- oh has it been playing -- in dozens of countries worldwide before its domestic debut in a major reversal of the industry norm.

Sony is handling physical distribution of "Solace" worldwide, but MGM was a 50-50 participant in its $200 million production costs. So the partners crafted the unusual global strategy jointly, expanding on the franchise's traditional U.K.-first rollout to unspool the 22nd Bond film in an unprecedented 60 foreign territories before its Friday release in the U.S. and Canada.

The domestic rollout includes showtimes at 12:01 a.m. Friday in more than 1,600 locations.

"The Bond movies belong to the world," Sony domestic distribution president Rory Bruer said. "They're popular around the world, so getting the dates right -- whether domestic or elsewhere -- was particularly important."

Initially, "Solace" was to bow Nov. 7 in the U.S. and Canada, with only the U.K. and a handful of markets getting the film first. But when Warner Bros. bounced "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" from November to July, executives at Sony and MGM decided to hold back the Bond film one week domestically to open "Solace" closer to the lucrative Thanksgiving period.

Bruer said the film's established international success should help boost must-see interest among domestic moviegoers.

"I certainly believe the buzz is out there, with regard to what it's doing throughout the world," he said. "The world is a much smaller place, and that resonates back to the U.S. as well."

"Solace" has yet to unspool in several overseas markets and won't travel to Japan until January. But its early bow in China and other piracy-prone territories has helped keep unauthorized copies of "Solace" from circulating on the Internet or elsewhere, Bruer said.

"All that has shown up is an unwatchable version on the Internet of really, really poor quality," Bruer said.

Partly because of the global buildup to the stateside bow, the Marc Forster-helmed "Solace" appears likely to mount the biggest domestic Bond opening ever, well outpacing the $47.1 million debut for 2002's "Die Another Day." Many believe a $50 million-plus opening is likely, with a first-weekend haul of $60 million doable if moviegoing proves robust this weekend.

Meanwhile, it bears watching how films held over from recent domestic openings hold up under the 007 assault.

The family comedy "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" from DreamWorks Animation and Paramount will seek as much moolah as possible before Disney bows its animated feature "Bolt" next weekend. Animated films tend to play longer than the average release, but the overlap could cause some tumult.

Elsewhere, Universal has a pair of holdover titles targeting different core audiences than "Solace." Yet each could get jostled in a marketplace that will get only more competitive with each successive frame.
