Still seems the "bad" reviews harp on not having enough classic Bondisms in it. That's a positive in my mind, so adjust your personal tomato meter accordingly.
Yes that is true and they maybe very good sign after all.

QoS better than OHMSS? Nope. I haven't seen QoS, but I can't see that happening.
Same here, for me nothing will ever top FRWL or OHMSS. The 60s atmosphere is just something that can't be replicated.

I can see OQS beating OHMSS but not FRWL.

I agree that the 60s atmosphere is something unique, but I don't think OHMSS got that down as well as, let's say, Dr. No or FRWL. In that sense, I think QoS can beat the living daylights out of OHMSS in terms of style and atmosphere. I'm not sure about FRWL though.
I also think there are a number of glaring problems with OHMSS (was never a fan of the whole "Hilly" section of the movie, nor do I think Tracy is as fleshed out as someone like Vesper), and while I think George is a great Bond, he's got nothing on Daniel, and for these reasons alone, I think QoS has the ability to be better in atmosphere, and better in quality to OHMSS.

Yes, I agree. The atmosphere is spot on. The sets, the music, the locations, the stories - the lot. They cast a very long shadow indeed. Those six Bond films are immovable in my top Bond films list.QoS better than OHMSS? Nope. I haven't seen QoS, but I can't see that happening.

CR is great, and presumably QoS as well, because they are reminiscent of these films, or are trying to replicate some of that vibe. I expect QoS to be placed either 7th or 8th in my rankings, obviously before or after CR.

YOLT is not a great film either. It probably looks the most dated Bond film in the franchise, due to the really bad special effects. The blue screen used during the driving scenes are just awful, and unnecessary - especially the scene when Connery is watching the car being dropped in the sea by the helicopter. The screen behind him is just hideous, and really badly made. Dr. No didn't look as bad as this, and that was made 5 years earlier. The space shots are fairly naff too (remember, this was the same time as Kubrick's 2001, with far better, more convincing space scenes, so there is no excuses for this being made in 1967.) DAD gets slagged off for its embarrasing CGI, but I would rate YOLT as next on the list. The Little Nellie scene I didn't really like either.
OHMSS is a classic film, but again has many faults. The whole Hilary Bray dubbed voice thing is pretty naff. Lazenby comes across mostly as wooden throughout, some of the speeded up fight scenes are badly cut together too.
I honestly think QOS and CR seriously give the 60's films a run for their money now.

I think the 60's Bond's are perhaps put on a pedestal a little too high by fans in general. The first 3 are classics, sure. But TB does have very tedious moments which drag on and slow the film down (mainly due to the underwater scenes).

Fully agreed with everything you said. We've kind of come full circle and have reached a point in the Bond series we haven't been since the 60s. Daniel Craig and this toned up seriousness has really done the franchise wonders and feels just like Bond.

Full circle? Does that mean we have another MR to look forward to at some point? Gawd I hope not!
Hehe, well, one hopes not, but I think if the Bond franchise continues for a long time it's gotta happen at some point. It's also been a trend for a Bond actor to start his tenure with a good, down to earth movie, and then get sillier and sillier as they go on. Let's hope Daniel can be the exception.
Gawd I hope so!
