From BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat:

James Bond theme gets first play

This about says it all. Combination of the general public and Bond fans. I'd estimate an 80% negative reaction. Conservatively.

I'll go further.....petition EON to get David Arnold to substitute a track and have Duffy sing it. Bet he's got one ready anyway! It'll never happen, of course, but it would be sweet.

80 % of how many posts, actually?

A message board does not figure into any real statistic thinking. This is just the 10 to 20 hardcore fans or people who like to write on boards.

I think 80% negative is a bit too high...

In the poll in the other thread, we have:
67 votes liking the track
18 disliking it
41 reserving judgement

It's certainly a mixed reaction, but probably leaning on the more positive side at the moment.

I listened to the preview linked to that article.... I am still completely undecided...I need to hear the whole version.

I like the sound but the Bond notes are indeed a little heavy-handed...I can live with that though. I still don't know about the lyrics/vocals...

Fairly sure you'd get banned. Best to play it safe.

One thing´s for sure. A controversial song is better than a boring, by-the-numbers song that nobody would spend time on debating.

And it goes to show that EON is not (yet) ready to go back to the tried and true. What would have happened on this board if Celine Dion had been asked to sing a Bond ballad?

I wanted to like this, I reserved judgment until I heard it properly, fully on my digital radio. I so wanted it to be good...but...

I don’t like it, It simply doesn’t hold the attending, my mind keeps wondering to other things whilst listening to it, it doesn’t know what it wants to be, too many disparate (and desperate) things thrown together.

And someone has got to stop this “Martinis, girls and guns” syndrome.

As soon as a Bond song tries to be a Bond song it just plain kills it.

Some of the lyrics in this "Another bringer with the slick trigger finger for Her Majesty.” (So the Queen knows about Bond's little finger too!) are just plain embarrassing.

And whilst people may say it could grow on me, the music might, possibly, but I doubt I will ever stop finding some of the lines excruciatingly Bond-by-numbers.

“Oh but Jack White has read the script and its all allegorical!” some might cry, “It still sounds rubbish” I say.

The little flourishes that sound like the Bond theme that keep coming in and other bits of “Bond music” are part of the problem too.

Actually, reading around the net (not just Bond sites) and listening to the radio, 80% negative is being kind.

I can only hope that they will use the instrumental for the opening titles and hide this nonsense behind the closing credits. But that would only be damage limitation.

I personally like it because its so different from any other Bond theme and I don't understand the amount of negative comments about it because this is whole lot better than a 1960's Barry imitation theme and its not a great Bond theme but its defiantly one of the better ones. To the people who didn't like it, what would you have preferred? Another Shirley Bassey type theme song.

I like how this is different from the other Bond themes and I could see it fitting the title sequence well. I view it as a mixture of R&B and Rock which works well and the lyrics don't bother me at all. Maybe I like it because I live in the U.S. but I like it and I am not a big Alicia Keys or Jack White fan since this is the first song I have listened with them in it but I like what both of them gave to the song.

I'm willing to bet that winehouse/ronson did a much better job and are probably laughing their :( off at how horrible this song is.

I'm hoping to God that they just use the instrumental for the opening credits and then they can use the song for the end credits.

Reaction seems about the same as YKMN when it first made its internet debut. Fairly mixed, with a minority of users posting as if it was the end of the world.

Absolutely. YKMN was HATED. I guess it has become fashion now to diss a new Bond song. Probably because they have been so many legendary previous ones. Also, hatred is so easy to convey on the internet.

Concerning Whinehouse - I don´t think she has anything to laugh about right now. And quite frankly - would another one of her wannabe-Motown songs really have been a better choice? I think not.

Not the end of the world, just another embarrassingly bad Bond song for people to be derisory about.

It will be forgotten soon enough.

After hearing the entire song at least 5 times to be fair I'll say this.

There's no way that they're going to play the entire song over the opening credits because the entire song was executed as though it was a live performance at a concert with all that additional wailing. The actual music itself is perfect and if there's anything that the coke zero advert told us, is, that we're better off using the music without the vocals for the opening credits.

However, if they do use the music with the vocals, I think the song can be pulled off with using just the first 2 verses and then just letting the music play by itself, I can see it working with the title sequence visuals.

Overall, as a song, this is a Bond song that may only work when listening to it whilst watching the title sequences, it's not something I can just listen to and enjoy, unless it's just the music without the vocals.

Songs like GF,DAF,FRWL,TB,TLD are songs that work with and without the Bond title sequences.

Well, Winehouse has her problems but her musical talent is phenomenal imo and her music style alone is more fitting for any bond movie. There are numerous tracks on her B2B album that could work for pretty much any Bond movie made or yet to be made imo. But, I suppose that doesn't matter right now.

Sounds decent enough. But call me old-fashioned, but I just don't think the word "blinger" should ever be part of the lyrics in a Bond song. What next? One of the Bond girls turning and pointing at Bond and screeching: "That mah baby daddy right there! Put a cap in his :(!!"

Another god awful song written by an man trying to imitate John Barry
Another hell for my ears courtesy of Jack White and Alicia Keys
Another misplaced attempt to sound like Bond from the 60's
Another pop artist tries to do Bond and fails miserably.

Well this song is really bad, in fact its horrible
Amy would be better, so would Jethro Tull
This son is a joke it almost can't be true
Is this really the best that Jack White can do?

See how easily I did that.
