Design company issues statement regarding their progress on the 22nd Bond film

Quote from MK12 official website

"WE'RE CURRENTLY HARD AT WORK ON THE NEXT JAMES BOND FILM, QUANTUM OF SOLACE, DIRECTED BY MARC FORSTER, STARRING DANIEL CRAIG AND PRODUCED BY BARBARA BROCCOLI AND MICHAEL G. WILSON.

WE'RE DIRECTING AND DESIGNING THE MAIN TITLE SEQUENCE AND HAVE JUST WRAPPED THE 4-DAY SHOOT AT PINEWOOD STUDIO'S STAGE D. THE TALENT & CREW WERE BRILLIANT AND WE'RE REALLY APPRECIATIVE OF ALL THE HARD WORK AND DETERMINATION EVERYONE BROUGHT TO THE SET. WHILE WE CAN'T SAY MUCH ABOUT IT, WE CAN SAY THAT WE ARE VERY HAPPY WITH WHAT WE SHOT AND ARE NOW BUSY WEAVING IT ALL TOGETHER. THE SHOOT WAS LENSED BY SIMON CHAUDOIR. HAVE YOU SEEN HIS REEL? GEEZ.

ALSO, WE'RE IN CHARGE OF DEVELOPING, DESIGNING & ANIMATING THE GRAPHICAL INTERFACES THROUGHOUT THE FILM. WATCH THE TRAILER TO SPOT A SAMPLE OF OUR WORK.

WE'RE REVISITING THOSE SAME DESIGNS AS A FOUNDATION FOR THE CINEMATICS IN ACTIVISION'S UPCOMING QUANTUM OF SOLACE GAME, DUE OUT AROUND THE SAME TIME AS THE FILM. WE'RE ALSO DESIGNING THE GAME'S TITLE SEQUENCE IN COLLABORATION WITH ZOIC.

QUANTUM OF SOLACE IS OUT IN CINEMAS OCTOBER 31 IN THE UK AND NOVEMBER 7 IN THE US."

Well, that answers a few questions.

Also shouldn't be long on the title song now then if they've already shot the title sequence and are editing it. I'd assume they have the song locked down, if not performer.

Interesting. I can't wait to see what they come up with.

Perhaps the shot of the moving shadow of the 007 logo over the rocky background.

Ahhh yes! Thanks Vauxhall. I can't focus in a morning. Yes that shot was rather well done, I know its a far stretch to imagine but could that be part of the opening titles?

Plus I think it's possible to think that we have a performer and a title song, since they're starting to edit their work.

Infact, I would say it is a VERY high possibility, infact 100% possible to believe this. Since It would be pointless editing a opening title sequence without the song, unless they are planning to cut the song down to a dramatic extent, but they have no idea how long the song will be, unless they already have one.

So does this mean Duffy is the singer or is it someone else? I honestly figured we'd know by now....

Does anyone know when Cornell was chosen? This may give us an indication on when to expect the announcement.

I'm very looking forward to see what they've done with Quantum of Solace. From what we've heard so far, things sound interesting.

Can't say I've been blown anyway but anything they've done, but I remain optimistic they can come up with the goods.

I don't think so. They're talking about the "graphical interfaces in the film," if you read the comment correctly, which means they're talking about that map-table-computer thingy in the one overhead shot.

It was around this time of the year, wasn't it?

Dammit, that was my initial thought!

We found out Chris Cornell was performing the CASINO ROYALE theme on 26 July 2006. Two years ago, yesterday.

Thinking about this some more... there's no way Forster would be still scrambling for a song at this point. He's an auteur, so I'm sure he had something specific in mind for the mood of the title sequence

That leaves three possibilities:

1) Arnold is has written the song (perhaps in collaboration with Forster's Indie Rock Band buddies) and they're looking for a name to sing it
2) Someone dropped off a tape of an awesome song at EON and everyone loved it. Performer is singing the song and it's just super-under wraps.
3) Someone who is not a desirable name because of lack of fame/personal problems (Winehouse) wrote an awesome song (either dropped off or commissioned by Forster), and they're looking for a name to sing it.

I think the former is somewhat more likely.

It could be an instrumental.

People seem to be seriously entertaining this idea for the main titles over at the "other" forum. Could happen, I guess, but there will almost certainly be a sung track at the end credits if that happens.

I doubt it. If they were going to do an instrumental, it would have made more sense for them to have done it for the last film, than for this one.

But they're obviously timing the title sequence to something, even if it's only a temp version.

So basically, we should expect an announcment any day now. Saying that the Casino Royale teaser was released in May and we had to wait for the Quantum of Solace trailer for nearly two months.

Given the news we've had recently , I think it's almost certainly Duffy who is doing the title song

I instrumentals were as good as everyone "over there" is making out, we'd have had one since OHMSS.

I think fans, in general, would love an instrumental but it wont sell the movie. Hence, no instrumental theme since OHMSS.

Good luck to MK12. But it would have been far more interesting to see Daniel Kleinman continue with his new style...

I was on the official website and I couldn't hepl but think some of it looks a lot like MK12 designed it, the blue, yellow and white circle is from the MK12 logo.

Actually, I think it's more to do with dollars rather than sense.

I'm failing to see how sense has anything to do with it. To me, On Her Majesty's Secret Service is a pile of crap. It would have been excellent with any actor other than Lazenby in it and if they hadn't accelerated the fight scenes or rapidly spun a backdrop to create a sense of speed in the bobsleigh chase. No, sense has nothing to do with an instrumental.

Hypothetically, if EON went down the instrumental route, Sony would want something marketable. And there's maybe four artists I can name who have made a substantial career out of instrumentals, none of whom would be suited to doing it because of the nature of their music. Of course, there's nothing to say they have to sign an artist to perform an instrumental; Dvid Arnold could easily do it. But then everyone would bitch about that no end.
