Just watched a couple of her videos. She's boring. I hope it's not her

I agree! She has a good voice, but she bores me. I hope we get another male composer. Actually, I wouldn't be suprised if they brought Chris Cornell back.

I would love that.

Ideally, I want to see QUANTUM OF SOLACE have a song that's a companion piece to YKMN. YKMN was a high-octane, energetic piece summing up the brash and cocky 007 of CASINO ROYALE. I'd like to see a companion song, with the same rock edge, but now with the broken, angry and bitter tone that would reflect where Bond is after CASINO ROYALE.

And who better to produce a companion piece to YKMN than Cornell?

I thought they would go with an artist with an edge. Would they really go with an artist as dull as Keys?

Couldn't agree more.
DC's Bond is interesting because it has an edge, which makes you sit up and get involved with the character instead of reaching for the comfy slippers and cocoa, and just letting the film wash over you. Using Keys would be the beginning of the slide to comfy, safe Bond.

I already forgot who sang You Know My Name; the vocals on that song were just awful. So, for whatever "edge" he had, it was a moot point. I don't have a single song of Keyes; never cared for her, and don't really like some of the racial comments she's made in the past, but she's certainly a talented singer and she's very good looking.

Personally, I"d like to see Lenny Kravitz do the theme song.

I never wrote that Chris Cornell had an "edge", I certainly have never written that I thought YNMN was a striking memorable song.

Garbage were 'edgy'(compared to Tina Turner and Sheryl Crow) yet they contributed a song for Brosnan's tenure as Bond and he was anything but edgy. We're far past the point where a song for a movie and the credibility of the singer (perceived or lack of) is an integral part of a movie's edginess (a word bandied around too many times).

You could (and should) replace the word "edge" with character. In most of the recent theme songs there have been no balls or character to them, all bland as you alluded to with Garbage's song. Looking back at the great Bond themes they all had character and guts and that's what has been missing in recent times.

What do I know? I thought Chris Cornell would suck.

I had know idea who Chris Cornell was when he landed the job. I wouldn't be oppose to him coming back either.

I hope, for her sake, that she ends up with a decent song. From what I have experienced in the past, it's not about the quality of the artist. It seems to be more about the song. I love Tina Turner, but "GOLDENEYE" is probably the worst Bond song I have ever heard. And of course, there's Tom Jones and "THUNDERBALL". Yikes!

you've just listed 2 of the best Bond songs, imo. Who really cares about the lyrics anyway... it's all about sound for me. Bond lyrics are usually pretty lame anyway.

I think Alicia Keys is a good artist, but not the right choice for Bond. Just like Chris Cornell, her voice lacks the rough power that a Bond theme song really needs.

She's a pretty girl, Alicia. I just wish she would use a bit less foundation. She looks like a bad ad for makeup (or possibly a warning - how not to do it).

I'm still ambivalent about her doing the song.

I really do not care who sings the song, as long as my money doesn't go to the Amy Winehouse fund for drugs and alcohol. I would really be displeased if she gets the contract.

Personally, I'd cheer from the rooftops if she did. As I stated on aother thread, my pleasure would be doubled knowing it was p*ssing people off on so-called "moral grounds" if she actually got the gig.

Amy might look like a raddled old whore and see the world through a drug-induced haze, but that's her choice and has nothing to do with me or anyone else on this site. And I'd still prefer her to overproduced pap like Alicia Keys or Leona Lewis.

Chris Cornell sang the theme song for CR......Oh man Lenny Kravitz doin a theme song would be awesome....A Female singer just seems all wrong for DC´s era of Bond.....somehow it just does´t feel right.....Also having a female singer wouldn´t fit with the theme of the movie balls to the wall action. The only female I would like to sing a Bond song is Bjork....cazy Beatch that she is,would be amazing for her to team up with Arnold again.....

yes. Tell me why they aren't. Change my mind...

Because they are crap.

And forgetable.

And.....oh I have forgotten already!!

Now, Diamonds are foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ooh she sounds like catwoman when she sings, now THAT is a song!!

Or how about the oooooozzzzing treacle of For Your Eyes Only, this is a song written to be played when sliding into a bed with melted chocolate for sheets.

Yeah, Thunderball is so forgettable that it's still one of the most popular Tom Jones songs ever. Common, so the lyrics make no sense, but otherwise it's pure Bond. More than FYEO, but then again, arguing about musical taste never ends well.

It's pointless. And it's great that we all have different musical tastes, otherwise life would be boring.

Alicia Keys has a good voice, but I've never really cared for anything she's done. This might still be alright, were she to have actually won it.

I was never wild about Sheena Easton, but loved her rendition of "For Your Eyes Only." Just sayin'. . . .

What Rush tune (from their present discography) would you pick? Points awarded for considering lyrical theme as well as an appropriate sound.

Dunno if this would be considered "present discography," as "Hold Your Fire" was released in '87, but "Anything Can Happen" resonates with Bondian themes:

Basic elemental
Instinct to survive
Stirs the higher passions
Thrill to be alive

Alternating currents
In a tidewater surge
Rational resistance
To an unwise urge
anything can happen

From the point of conception
To the moment of truth
At the point of surrender
To the burden of proof

From the point of ignition
To the final drive
The point of the journey
Is not to arrive
anything can happen

Basic temperamental
Filters on our eyes
Alter our perceptions
Lenses polarize

Alternating currents
Force a show of hands
Rational responses
Force a change of plans
anything can happen

From a point on the compass
To magnetic north
The point of the needle
Moving back and forth

From the point of entry --
Until the candle is burned
The point of departure
Is not to return
anything can happen

I set the wheels in motion
turn up all the machines
activate the programs
and run behind the scenes

I set the clouds in motion
turn up light and sound
activate the window
and watch the world go 'round --

anything can happen

The original arrangement/production is very much a thing of the '80s, but an updated version could work.

To me, the title track should be fairly moody and introspective as a way of picking up from the end of CASINO ROYALE as far as looking at Bond's emotional state after losing Vesper, and that's truly where Buckingham has been excelling with his recent work. His song "Say Goodbye" from the last Fleetwood Mac album, with a bit of reworking, could have been something that would fit with QUANTUM very well. Plus (and this is just my opinion, and a bit biased as I'm a huge fan of his work) he's playing the guitar better than he's ever played it, and I'd love to see one of his guitar riffs over a Bond title track, and he'd be a good continuation of the style of music that Chris Cornell brought to the franchise with "You Know My Name".

Wow, now there's someone I haven't thought about in a while. But you're right; Buckingham has always been an interesting musician, and he brought tremendous energy and creativity to his and the other band members' songs, as well as on his own solo efforts. "Out of the Cradle" remains one of my all-time favorite albums.

(Still wish "Buckingham Nicks" -- the album he and Stevie made before joining Fleetwood Mac -- would be released on CD. I've just about worn out my vinyl LP.)

An excellent choice would be the Blue Nile.

Paul Buchanans voice just lends itself to a moody Bond song delivered with angst and edge.

It's amazing to me the names people are mentioning here that I never would've guessed others would know much about. You're right about the Blue Nile; they would be wonderful!
