And the most important thing is that all the Bond Blu-rays play on it (which is not the case with all Blu-ray players).

Does this include the US Blue Rays?

Most of the US Bond Blu-rays are region-locked.

Cheers for the link. Looks doubtful that US LTK or MWTGG will play in my machine.

I am really pleased with the way the Bond movies look on Blu-ray and if getting them in the quality of Moonraker for example means waiting a little extra time for the movies then I am fine with that.

Exactly. And it's nice to have plenty of Bonds still to look forward to.

Indeed.

By the way, Did you get breakdown cover for you BD Player, when you bought it on Amazon? I can't seen to find any.

My Blu-ray player is the Sony BDP-S350. I can't recommend it highly enough. It's light and stylish and more importantly has played every single last one of the Blu-rays I've fed it (including all the Bonds, luckily), without any need for "firmware updates" or any faffing about. And the discs load very quickly indeed.

It's not too expensive, either. At the moment you can pick it up for about £150 on Amazon.

Everyone knows I had problems playing Blu-Ray discs at first. But then I bought the Sony BDP-350. And I concur with everything you say; it's a wonderful piece of kit. And I just love the way it plays DVDs, too.

Finally invested in a Blu Ray player today.

I was planning on getting the one Loomis has, but since it was out of stock, I ended up getting this one. Takes quite a while to load up like, (20 seconds) BUT the picture quality is stunning, and it plays the Bond Blu Rays.

I just popped the disc in and it played. I was expecting a fuss.

A few quick points on the Bond blu-rays (apologies if these have been raised before):

1. Good to see they are making fixes to the films: The errors on Thunderball (namely water in shark pool stays red not blue, music cue fixed when Bond first spies Domino). This gives me hope for Goldeneye's cropping will be fixed (which I did not notice at first, then someone pointed it out and now it is all I see).

2. Interesting that that the catalogue Bond (ie the films prior to CR 06) are all region here in the UK, but not in the US where they are only Region A (which does not faze my computer as it plays all disc regions).

3. A question: is the US edition of Licence to Kill the complete uncut version or is it the American theatrical version?

After a long wait I finally got my full-HD TV and blu-ray player. So far I've only seen TB and FYEO. Both were amazing and a fantastic improvement over UE. I never watch Bondmovies on a regular basis (only see them when there's a new release) so that makes the experience even better. I'm glad to see that FYEO still holds up. It's definitively one of the finest films in the series. The underwater scenes are stunning in both films. Trying to figure out if I should go with FRWL or GF now...

TSWLM will be fantastic in this format. I hope the film gets the royal treatment it deserves.

I'm sure it will, I'd say it's one of the most popular in the series, next to Goldfinger and From Russia With Love.

I came across OHMSS being unexpectedly broadcast in hi-def last night, and wow did it look good. As usual in the hi-def experience, I saw new things I'd never noticed before, like the morning after sleeping with Tracey, Laz has dried blood above his eyebrow from the fight in the hotel room. The photography in the PTS looked particularly gorgeous. Can't wait to get this one on Blu-ray. What's going on anyway, no new 'wave' announced?

Tell me have they corrected the colour timing for the pre title sequence which was altered in the ultimate edition version. It had a blue tint to it which was kind of like a day for night shot. It was shot at dawn with a gold look.

The only information that I have heard is that MGM didn't think the current released titles sold very well. Due to that they are going to slow down releases of the remaining films.

So... hopefully more Bond fans will step up to Bond in HD and pick up the films that have thus far been released.

It doesn't sound like there is any kind of window or timeframe for the remaining releases. Speculation is that we could be waiting until Bond 23 is released before there are more Bond blu ray releases.

Hopefully this is not the case.

I'm not surprised by that considering how much they have done wrong with these releases. 1) Nobody wants to buy the movies out of order. But the selection and mix is just bad. 2) In Germany, the whole distribution was messed up. While the single blu-rays showed up at Amazon.de for example, the first 6 movies didn't show up in the box sets at major retailers (such as amazon.de) in the lists. Amazon.de had the 6-box something like 1-2 weeks after the release. My box preorders at another retailer had been canceled for no reason and for the second round of movies, there was not even a 6-box.
3) Why on earth are there more movies available on (region coded) US blu-rays? I want LTK as well. Damn them!

On the bright side, i thought that the price for the first 6-box was very reasonable. On the other hand, i was really pissed when had to buy two 3-boxes for a lot of more for the second round.

In September the prices are going to be reduced on the first 9 films that were released. Volumes 1-3.

I 100% agree with you bnz on how the films have been released. I don\\\'t mind the mixed order as MGM has done that for years now. However I don\\\'t understand releasing the blu ray films individually, in bllu ray box sets of 3 titles and also continuing to reissue them on DVD.

I\\\'ve watched the Licence To Kill blu ray and finally ordered a copy of it. It\\\'s so strange that there were no sales on The Man With The Golden Gun and Licence To Kill. All of the other titles had sale pricing on them here in the US.

For those Bond fans on the fence about buying Bond on blu ray, go for it. You will really enjoy seeing and hearing the films in HD. For those in the US who haven\\\'t bought the films yet, Costco has a box set of most of the films. the 2 not included are Golden Gun and LTK. I\\\'ve seen Golden Gun at Costco for $18 however which is a good price.

Well, duh. Their two most recent releases just happen to be two of the most unloved Bond films, LTK and TMWTGG. Did they think those two were going to fly off the shelves?

Is there any specific information available for each individual films' sales, btw?

You know, I'm not sure. It did look very nice though, I can tell you that. It was being broadcast in pan & scan, not widescreen so we weren't getting the full scope of it anyway.

That's a little worrying. Where did you hear this?

If you can't do well with Bond, of all things, on Blu-ray, then is the writing on the wall that the Blu-ray format is a flop?

Blu-ray is far from established in Britain. I'd hate to see the whole thing tank now that I've repurchased the Bonds on Blu-ray, spent quite a bit on buying other films on the format and sold all my DVDs (including all my Bond DVDs).

I hope Blu-ray isn't the new laserdisc for Brits (laserdisc did very well in America and other countries but never took off at all over here).

Well Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace both sold very well on Blu Ray. There could be an (incorrect) public assumption that older movies on Blu Ray son't offer the same spectacle as newer movies do. There are still alot of people out there that think a movie filmed before these high def day, won't really be in high def (ie. they don't realize films stock is higher def than Blu Ray).

Yes that's a good point.
I hope Blu-ray does not take a nosedive like laserdisc, I want TSWLM OHMSS and TLD on Blu-ray at least. If MGM did not think the current titles sold well, they would surely only have to include more extra's for the next wave of Blu-rays and the sales would improve.
I do think the Blu-ray Bonds are expensive though, some are best part of £20 in the high street stores near me. I know they can be got cheaper on line, but its a lot even for aficionado's IMO.

Good article. On the positive side, news broke last week that Walmart is now affering a $99.00 Blu Ray player. Once more players get away fromt the $300.00 price range and into the $100.00 range, Blu Ray sales will increase.
