In terms of the ones I have rented (UK region), the extras are the same - yes. But the main documentaries are now in HD.

My personal plan is to wait until these drop in price more, then just snap up some of my favourites from the series, rather than replace the whole set. If they started releasing them with significantly enhanced extras - well then, that's a different story. wink.gif

There is currently a 3 for 2 offer on over at Play.com. You could get any 3 for £30. And all 6 for £60.

Thanks! Hopefully GoldenEye will get the same treatment.

Thanks Satorious. Hhhhmmmmmmm so I might gamble and sell my UE collection on Ebay and put it towards the new Blu-Ray versions...

Picked up Dr. No on Blu-ray the other day and put it on just to see what it looked like in HD (I haven't had the chance to watch the film all the way through on Blu-ray yet, but will post a review later). The film simply looked like a brand new film on Blu-ray, especially the scenes immediately following Ursula Andress' introduction. Can't wait to watch the whole film on Blu-ray and then move on to From Russia With Love.

My Bond BD's should be coming today, I shall spend the rest of the week staring blankly at the covers, since I won't have anything to watch them on untll the end of the week. :(

I recieved all 6 Bond Blu Ray releases this morning. I don't get my PS3 untill monday though. :)

BUT, I did bring Die Another Day up a friends house, just to have a quick look. ( I want to keep the classics untill Monday, so I will have a chance to watch them all of the way through.)

I noticed a big difference in Die Another Day, not massive but big. The gunbarrel particuarly stood out for me, as it's the first time I've actually seen Brosnans facial expression clearly. I shall look very forward to watching the early Connery ones. :(

Still not enough to persuade me to buy QoS but this might interest some 007 fans.

That's a pretty good deal. Better than the Amazon.com one.

It's pretty good for me as I'd set my target price at ten pounds per film. I've got my eye on Thunderball, Dr No and either Goldfinger or Moonraker (unfortunately those aren't part of the deal yet as they are the next round of blu rays).

A question for the experts here: are blu-rays region encoded? I didn't dare buy any on the US last year, and the shop assistants didn't have a clue, but I've noticed that most dont' have any symbol indication region encoding, and some BRs that I've rented come with FBI warnings (which UK films don't). I'm guessing this means there is no encoding... but I'm sure I've read somewhere that there is...

I'm not an expert, but as I understand it regional coding is a lot more limited on Blu-ray than on standard DVD. Also, there's no difference between NTSC and PAL on Blu-ray. Therefore, most US Blu-rays should work just fine in Britain.

(Disclaimer: I may be wrong, but I think I've got it right, more or less.)

There is regional coding on bluray. The world is split into regions A, B and C. A is the US, Canada and Japan. B is Europe, Africa and Australia. C is central Asia.

Saying that, a lot of blu-rays are region free (typically all Warner Bros, a lot of Sony and Disney). Some studios do strictly code all films though, including FOX - which distributes the Bond Blu-rays. So all Bond Blu-rays so far (and probably in future) are region encoded. (Except for some editions of Casino Royale which is distributed by Sony)

The site http://bluray.liesinc.net/ lists all region codings of blu-rays and I have found it to be reliable.

I was wondering if anyone knew if the Thunderball Blu-ray had the original sound effect used for the door when Largo enters the SPECTRE briefing was reinstated on the DTS-HD track or if its still the same as the sound effect used in the 5.1 track on the UE?

Thankfully, it's not the same. It's the same as the sound effect that was used on the SE DVD's.

Thanks for the heads up on that Amazon deal. Too good to pass up. I went for the QOS+3 for a $20 savings. This combined with my current gift certificate balance means I'm now able to get all five new Bond Blu-Rays (that's including NSNA) plus the QOS DVD SE for the grand total of...$0.00.

You can pretty much guarantee that all Warner Brothers, Universal and Paramount are region free. I have had blu-ray for 2 years now and I have not come across any of the above that are region coded. Most if not all of Fox and Disney ARE region coded. Sony are more problematic as some are (usually new or recent films), some are not. As far as the Bond's (which are distributed by Fox), the American discs (region A) are coded. The European ones (region :( are multi-region (A,B,C). Go figure. Hope that helps.

Thanks, and this must mean they used the source of the 5.1 track from the SE DVD for the Blu-ray which was created from the Dolby Surround track created by the Ian Fleming Foundation for one of the Laserdisc releases which is as faithfull to the original audio as any 5.1 mix I have ever heard.

Some Blu-rays are region coded and a large number are not. I order Blu-rays all the time from Amazon UK and have never had a problem playing them on my American PS3.

I have had good luck with this site which gives a pretty good run down on which Blu-rays are region free and which are not:

Just did my Amazon pre-order for QOs and the other 4 that release on 3/24. With free shipping, the 5 BR's come to an average of $20/each. I think that is a great deal to get them upon release. Granted, down the road, perhaps on Ebay, one can find them for slightly less--but to have and enjoy them upon release. I don't think even Best Buy will be as competitive, although I am still curious to see if there are any promo items included with an in store purchase.

I am tempted to do the Amazon thing, but with Best Buy there are several factors why I will probably stick with them:
-I have discounts Reward Zone coupons totalling around $40
-I have gift cards
-They will end up discounting these anyway
-There's the possibility of promo items and further discounts if you buy the combinations of QoS and the other films

On top of it all, it gives me something to look forward to, getting out of work for a little bit to pick these up and anticipating getting through the rest of the day to savor the Blu-rays.

Along those lines, the first reviews should be coming up in the next couple of weeks I should think.

I go with Amazon most of the time because I have an Amazon credit card where any purchases earn points (not just at Amazon but at the grocery store, gas station etc) that can be redeemed for Amazon gift certificates. I have one $25 gift certificate from my January purchases and another $25 gift card coming at the end of this month.

That said I have $25 in gift certificates/rewards certificates for Best Buy so I am considering removing Never Say Never Again from my Amazon order and using them towards the Best Buy $29.99 price of the Blu-ray. Doing that or picking up the "Twilight" Blu-ray at BB that comes out at the same time.

As there has been many rumours concerning the release of Licence to Kill coming to Blu Ray. I am glad to confirm that the features have been passed by the BBFC.

These Include:
LICENCE TO KILL [Audio commentary]
LICENCE TO KILL [Additional material, Director's audio commentary, FEATURE COMMENTARY BY JOHN GLEN AND MEMBERS OF THE CAST]
LICENCE TO KILL DECLASSIFIED MI6 VAULT: DELETED SCENES WITH INTRODUCTIONS BY DIRECTOR JOHN GLEN [Additional material]
LICENCE TO KILL 007 MISSION CONTROL: OPENING TITLES: TEXTLESS (FOR BLU-RAY USE) [Additional material]

Aswell as this, a commentary for The Man with the Golden Gun has also been passed on
08/01/2009.
THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN [Additional material, Audio commentary, Director's audio commentary, By Guy Hamilton, Cast & Crew]

I presume these will be in the next wave of releases, (Wave 3). Nothing else Bond related has been passed by the BBFC, so It's difficult to say what other release/releases will complete the next wave.
