One of the strangest things I've noticed in recent times, however, was the action of a cinema chain in Australia.
Bend It Like Beckham (a great film starring the absolutely beautiful Keira Knightley) opening as an 'art' film. That is, you could only see it at particular cinemas. Probably about 15 across the state.
BILB opened against MIB II and took number one spot at the Australian box office. All these weeks after its release, it's been put on to General Release and you can now see it all cinemas state wide.
Go the art house film

XXX 7.426 down 57%
Signs 6.197 down 43%
BlueCrush 5.681
SpyKids2 3.560 down 31%
Austin3 2.785 down 33%
GreekWedd 1.601 UP 83%!
BloodWork 1.448 down 38%
Perdition 1.097 down 4%
MasterDisg 1.000 down 41%
PlutoNash 0.750
How much XXX really dives will depend if it falls again on Saturday like it did last weekend, and if it does Signs will go back to #1. XXX will probably make from $18-22 for a 50-60% dive (for an $80-84 cume)

In an attempt at humour, this is my thoughts on it all...
Q: Why did Sony call it xXx?
A: Because poor Vin couldn't spell the word "spy."

Nash has been sitting in the vault I think for almost 2 years, a $100m bomb and they decided to waste more advertising it and putting it in theaters... why? It's a failure of Ishtar, Cuthroat Island, Town & Country proportions. I wonder who's going to get fired over it?
Actuals on XXX
$22,111,421 (-50.3% ) $83,963,506 (cume)
It's lucky there wasn't another huge film opening and none for another two weeks b/c it's hemorraging. Pity.

So it takes the p**s out of Bond, hell I take the p**s out of Bond (have you seen the Roger Moore films? its hard not to take the p**s - but I love 'em), I have the p**s taken out of me for liking Bond, and I take the p**s out of myself for liking Bond. I'm a huge fan. xXx won't mar my enjoyment of the Bond films in anyway. If it copies any of the Bond elements and does them well then it will be a rip off - but it will also be a good film. And I doubt it will go back in time and make the 20 good Bond films be un-made.
I don't care how many people like James Bond - OK so the more people that go see DAD then the bigger the budget for the next one (not always a good thing) - OK the more people who like 007 the less people take the p**s out of me - hey who cares? The more competition Bond has at the cinema the harder Eon have to work to bring me a good film every couple of years or so.
True Lies was so so, Mission Impossible the same - I expect this will be the same again for me - hey I'm a Bond fan - only. I don't own any of the Star Wars films, not interested in them, (yeah sometimes it riles me that this American rubbish is more popular in the UK than the home grown hero) - but I go see 'em when they come out, its entertainment .
I doubt very much the makers of xXx had any genuine mallace against James Bond, they're just trying to get a rise out of him (so to speak - I know he's not real). So remember the highest form of flattery is imitation - and the people who suffer least from heart attacks are those who can laugh at themselves. I reckon there's room in the world for two super spys - and if they had a fight, well we all know who would kick who's ***.

Between now and then there's also Jackie Chan in The Tuxedo and Banderes & Liu in Ballistic: Ecks vs Severs (rotten title)
I read Murphy refused to promote Pluto Nash because it was so bad, which is all well and good but he didn't give back his $20m paycheck for it either.

I must admit the very last part of the trailer for Pluto Nash (the Hillarys) had me cracking up, but the rest looks horrific.

I agree. I wouldn't mind seeing it with some friends if I had a chance to. I think they just released it at the wrong time. Murphy's other movie, Showtime, was actually quite funny, IMO. Although if you think he isn't doing too well lately, go rent Eddie Murphy: RAW. It's one of his stand up routines from the late 80's, made after his other stand up, Delirious. It'll restore your faith in Mr. Murphy. Don't rent it if you're easily offended, though.Originally posted by JimmyBond
I myself think Pluto Nash looks decent, but then again, thats just me.

Anyhoo, on to xXx. I just caught the end of an MTV show yesterday (can't remember it's name) that reviews new releases and previews upcoming ones. It had people rate Vin Weasel's film, and most said it had good action sequences. Mostly, they hyped the avalanche scene. Crackers, these people need to watch a Bond film or two. Particularily OHMSS or TSWLM. One (smart) person said that the plot was pretty lame. My friend (who is also a Bond fan) saw it the other day and said that it didn't knock off Bond as much as people thought. Hrmph. Of course, he's a person who goes to films just for the fun of it.

Nope. But the way I see it, God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.

And three quarters of the worlds population thinks of the Bible as a fairy story, so how is this relevant?
For pity's sake, who cares who the guy is or isn't having sex with!
