Indy 4 was a mistake.
I don't exactly know in what form Indy 5 will gate made, but the 800MM BO figure will motivate Lucas to get it done.
He is just out of fresh ideas, which ironically doesn't stop him from diluting 2 of the greatest franchises of all time.

It does, does it? I must have missed that... I thought MUNICH, the immediate predecessor to KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL, was one of Spielberg's finest efforts in a very long time. The artistic vision of Speilberg gets worse and worse every year

BUT the problem is, the beginning adventure is always considered the best, so dont set your hopes too high.

It all seemed to be filmed in some sort of overlit shed.
A fair comment. I liked it, but I'm not going to say it's a great film.
Had a lot more charm than Quantum of Solace and of the two, it's Crystal Skull I was looking forward to seeing again.

Lucas is out of ideas. The "new" SW trilogy, KOTCS, the new SW animated series...He won't stop.

If they don't appear completely remorseful for that last travesty, then we're doomed.

Well, now that INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL is out on DVD, I gave it a second viewing.
I remain of the view that this is one of the biggest disappointments in the history of cinema. Instead of the CASINO ROYALE or QUANTUM OF SOLACE of the Indy Jones series, what we have here is its A VIEW TO A KILL or DIE ANOTHER DAY.
I find that hard to believe. How could you be disappointed by a film you were where 'naysaying' for months leading up to its release?
What was it all for?
What were you expecting? Some kind of character study? What is Raiders for? What is Temple for? I've always thought Indy was a study in frivolity. Isn't that the point?
I loved Indy 4, but didn't so much love this interview! Ford was very quiet and moody! Is he always like that?
Yup.
Raiders is, IMHO, the greatest film of all time...It's really sad how badly they want to milk the franchise.
Surely milking would've involved more than a single film in a 20 year span? For example, Bond made 6 films in the same time span....
The penitent man, Lucas. REMEMBER THE PENITENT MAN!
LOL. I think it's too late for that. Lucas has permanently tarnished his name with the prequels and some people won't look past that regardless of the quality of subsequent projects.
As an aside, Quantum makes me even more grateful for the old time action in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Bag the overly lit, over the top truck chase all you want, but it was infinitely better than the opening car chase of Quantum if for no other reason than it wasn't nauseating. That goes for any of Indy's actions scenes vs any of Quantum's.

I honestly haven't seen MUNICH but if it's not on par with SCHINDLER'S LIST, I can't believe it's that great. Not because I think SL is great but it's because I think that it's overrated. Anyway, he still made his fair share of merely okay to decent films before then. He isn't what he used to be.

I've defended KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL on here, but I'll say that even QUANTUM OF SOLACE's weakest action sequences were better than KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL's best.As an aside, Quantum makes me even more grateful for the old time action in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Maybe. Spielberg did consider handing INDY IV over to another director.I can't see Spielberg signing on for another movie. If it happens, it will have to happen without him. That's my guess at least.
But it's my guess that if INDY V does happen, he'll be on board, just because of the comments from Lucas et. al that Spielberg's excited about the idea of another one. Sure, it could just be talk, but it does seem like he had such fun kicking back and relaxing on INDY IV, with its "family" atmosphere, that I could easily see him wanting to do another.

I'd like to believe you, but the proof is not up on the screen. I suspect that there is some great action in Quantum, but it is left largely to the imagination as to what is actually going on.

I don't agree with either of you. CS's action was overall good by QOS had a better track record despite the choppy editing.

To an extent, I suppose, but a majority of the time in action scenes was spent trying to figure out what was going on, who was hitting who, where Bond was in relation to the bad guys, etc. I did not appreciate that. It's just headache inducing and it doesn't build intensity or tension if I'm trying to figure out the geography of a scene. Not for me, anyway.

JC's A: The scene where Indy appears in the rocks with a bazooka aimed at the ark.
Why?
I don't know. Something has to be the worst scene, and ever since I was a child, this one has always kind of 'poked out'. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. Narratively, it offers one of the few windows into Indy's character. Freeman gives up a great performance. The fly-eating is one of the great classic movie 'bloopers' of all time. I love the scene, but all the same I feel like during it, the pace dips for a spell.
Anybody else dare?

I don't know where to start.

On another matter, it says on IMDB that the dude’s name (the guy who’s waiting with the plane during the intro) is “Jock”.
I always thought it was “Jacques”.
If it’s the former, where on earth did they come up with that for a name?

Two words that usually explain everything wretched in the Indiana Jones and STAR WARS films:
"George" and "Lucas".
That is all.

Paul Dini (he of the Batman cartoon) has said he'd like to do an Indy cartoon, which I think would be a rather excellent idea:

You're nuts Loomis- you can't dislike Indy because Lucas made it; it's supposed to be the other way round: judge the man on his work- don't judge the work on the man.
As it happens, I agree. I was just being silly. I was highlighting the fan tendency to blame Lucas for everything up to and including the weather.
For what it's worth, ATTACK OF THE CLONES (made when the man they call "Fat Neck" Luca$ was supposedly at his horrifying peak as a gone-to-the-Dark-Side purveyor of supremely awful filmmaking) is actually my favourite STAR WARS film. I have very fond memories of that flick, and really like some of the things Lucas did with it.

I hav to admit, I like what Lucas does in the respect that he's always finding new ways of making his films. But I have no respect for him as a writer, because some of his stuff is just trash, and like many others, I dislike the way he constantly edits and updates the films after their release. The Ultimate Extended Director's Platinum Bob Cut should be what we see in theatres the first time around, not on the anniersary DVD.You're nuts Loomis- you can't dislike Indy because Lucas made it; it's supposed to be the other way round: judge the man on his work- don't judge the work on the man.
