Writer shoots down rumours the next Bond film will be jokier

Haggis: "Although, obviously, it's steeped in a lot of Fleming's ideas."

Screenwriter also comments on potential reappearances by Felix Leiter and Q, and his inspiration for the 'Bond 22' script

If this has been posted elsewhere than just merge my thread with the one already here :cooltongue:

During press for his latest film In the Valley of Elah, Haggis mentioned that writing Bond is very rewarding. "Bond is just pure imagination; you just get to have fun. It's escapism and it's fun, but I try to ground him as a human being."

The full story can be found at the link at the top of this thread.

"It picks up 2 minutes after the last one, and it's going to be fun."

That quote right there sounds interesting to me. I like it.

So if this is indeed confirmation that the end of Casino Royale is pretty much the beginning of Bond 22, then the Italian locations make sense, since Bond is already in that part of the world.

Another query, if Bond is already engaged in a pursuit, could we see a diminished role for MI6 period? They did away with Moneypenny and Q for Casino Royale, what if they do away with M for Bond 22? I'm sure the people who don't care for Dench would be up for that :cooltongue:

I would like that. It would be sort of like Bourne, his own man hunting for revenge.

I found the MI6 scenes of late to be the weak links in the chain in the films from TWINE onward.

On second thought though, now that we have a new production designer on this film, I would love to see what he'd do with MI6.

Me too. Hopefully we'll hear more Bond 22 bits from Haggis in the future.

Gotta have some M in Bond 22!

It sounds as if we're all in for a fast and fun ride.
From what Paul was saying none of us are close to knowing what is going to happen - movie hype at its best.

Don't forget this. Is Bond 22 going to be "jokier" - answer: No. Same as Casino Royale.

I knew all that talk about a "funnier" Bond was absolute rubbish and blown out of proportion.

Actually just saw that myself, K1Bond007! CBn's main page story was updated about 10 minutes ago with this excellent piece of news - not that I ever believed it for a minute, anyway!

Excellent news about the lack of funny business regarding the humour. I hope it is Daltonesque in exection, and on par with Royale.

I'm not sure I want Bond to be MORE like Bourne. I like that they're different. And I don't buy that CR changed tones because of the Bourne flicks. I think they changed tones because of the skills of Mr. Haggis.

I'm chuffed to see this next film. I hate that I have to wait a year! But if that's what it takes to make the best film they can, take what time you need.

In the meantime, check out my film at www.damagedmovie.com We premiere tomorrow night in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

It might also suggest that the Palio chase would be the PTS, or perhaps an action scene just after the credits, like the CR parkour.

2 minutes after Casino Royale, Bond gets a call on his cellphone...

M: You were supposed to be in Istanbul last night. I'm afraid this unfortunate Lynd business has clouded your judgment. You have a job to do. I expect you on a plane this afternoon.

Bond: I haven't finished here, M.

M: Leave it to the Italians. It's their mess. Let them clear it up.

It's a relief to hear that Bond 22 isn't going to be a more humorous film than Casino Royale was. I thought that CR found a great balance between seriousness and humor, and I would like to see that style continue into Bond 22.

Dinovelvet, I think you are right. Although I suppose it's not out of the question for the Palio chase to be an extension of the PTS following Bond's confrontation with Mr. White.

I'm pleased to hear Haggis' news about the beginning of Bond 22 and that it still leaves open the possibility for wrapping up the Bond-White confrontation along the lines of what I wrote after originally seeing Casino Royale last November.

Back then, I suggested that White, knowing he was defeated after confessing all he knows, tells Bond, "I should have killed you back on the boat when I had the chance." And Bond replies, "Yes, you should have," before calmly executing him.

One other thing about this story that really intrigues me is Haggis' comment that
"Everyone thinks they know about the Bond girls and they're wrong." I wonder what that means about the main Bond girl this time around. Is there some spin/variation going on that we're not privy to yet? Could this be the Gala Brand-type Bond girl who DOESN'T sleep with Bond at the end (or before)? Or that there is no main Bond good girl--the only main girl is bad? Could this be something else or am I just reading too much into this?

It means the main girl will be a transvestite.

That quote intrigued me as well - but more the first part, in which he's presumably talking about the ending of the film. I'd love it if we didn't get another "Bond gets the girl" ending. This has been the best chance to really do something different and it'd kind of be disappointing if we slipped back into old clich

I'm taking it more as meaning the Bond girl won't be any of the names already mentioned or that come up regularly (Monica, Aishwarya, Catherine blah blah).
This seems to be the first hard and fast information we have about the film itself but he has been careful and not given much away. Good to hear he's enjoying it, I think that bodes well for the viewers.

Its good that Haggis is enjoying his writing tensure, i have to say i like this current system of writing, as Purvis and Wade come up with good ideas just have problems writing dialogue for them (hence why DAD doesnt work, Tamahori's ideas written by Purvis and Wade, which was just asking for trouble) so now we have Purvis and Wade coming up with ideas, then Haggis contributing his own as well as removing P&Ws' bad dialogue.

Another article that just reaffirms my confidence in BOND 22. This all sounds great. Especially glad that it seems there won't be any major change in tone from CASINO ROYALE. Also seems as though we'll be having a pre-credits sequence featuring Mr White, which will give us another chance to see the wonderful scenery of Lake Como!

Haggis is a talented writer and I'm glad he's working on Bond 22. However, his so-called "vision" isn't exactly how I would describe the character. I'm glad we still have EON and another director around.

I don't want to see Craig's Bond killing someone in cold blood at the start of every film, thanks very much. I daresay he'll capture Mr White (our developing 007 learning a lesson from CASINO ROYALE, in which he blows the bomber away instead of taking him in) and the PTS will feature some kind of action scene developing from the last moments of CR. But, please, let's go back to the standard gunbarrel with the James Bond Theme - it's worked for 40 years. No more fancy stuff.
