I hope there's a new transfer from Lowry Digital like the Ultimate Edtions DVDs. I'm hoping it's a 2-Disc set as well.

Oooh....a commentary with the author of THE JAMES BOND FILMS: A BEHIND THE SCENES HISTORY and the author of THE LEGACY. Two of my favorite Bond reference books. Should be good! :cooltongue:

This is just what I have been waiting and hoping for! Good news. The audio commentary will be very exciting to hear and "The Making of Casino Royale" I hope will give us more information then the old Val Guest interview.

The making of features will be more interesting than the "movie" itself.

Needs to add the Climax! TV episode though. It'd be great with this thrown in.. the full thing too.

Wow, I'm really kind of surprised they are putting this out, what with CR '06 out there and the fact this was one of those rogue productions usually only mentioned in passing when it came to talking about Bond films. You'd think they wouldn't want anything detracting from the newest version, especially since I saw I don't know how many critics refer to it as a remake of the '67 version.

I welcome it as I am one of the few people who actually enjoys CR '67 for what it is, a slice of psychedelic '60s cheese. And it's one of the films that has one of the most interesting behind the scenes stories behind it, so I'm happy to learn whatever I can about it.

It's also great they got two Bond experts, Rubin and Cork, to do the commentary. Nice to see Rubin still out there in Bond fandom.

With this coming out, does that mean there may be plans for a new version of that other rogue Bond film?:cooltongue:

Just what Hollywood needs, more self-indulgent films that make no sense!

I would have enjoyed the film if it was, you know, actually funny.

I always pretty much hated this film until I saw it with a packed audience (a very hip mix of Bond and 60s movie fans at the Egyptian in Hollywood) who just howled with laughter all the way through. Part of the laughter was just at how overblown and audacious the movie was and at the fact that it didn't make sense, but also it didn't try too. And all the incredible cameos got big applause. It really worked in a crazy way, and ever since that night, I've come to love it. (BTW, I believe I was sitting beside John Cork in that screening.)

The thought crossed my mind too, but I imagine there's not much chance this release could be confused with the official film series (despite the title). Whereas Joe Public would surely believe that any serious Bond flick - particularly one starring Sean Connery - is part of the franchise.

That said, I'm happy to be proven wrong, as the story behind Never Say Never Again's production is crying out for some fascinating extra material.

Apparently if you take everything that you hate about modern movies and put it in an older movie then that makes it great.

I don't consider it great by any stretch and neither probably do many. But that doesn't mean we can't enjoy it in a guilty pleasure sort of way.

I guess by today's standards, CR '67 was the Evan Almighty of its day. But CR '67 actually made money, I believe.

The problem with CR being a guilty pleasure is that it is supposed to funny to begin with. You can laugh at bad drama, but not at bad comedy, which is what CR is.

I don't really hate it but I never found it very funny and as a Bond parody it really comes up short. And I am perplexed by its fans who love it for things that they would not accept in a modern movie.

I've always struggled to watch this movie - maybe it is more of a group experience. :cooltongue: Anyway, the commentary is the most compelling feature on the disc for me. Now, a NSNA special edition would be very nice.

Being looking forward to the prospect of this happening since hearing that Bond 21 was to be called Casino Royale. I certainly hope that the existing features on the current release will be included as well.

The making of features will be more interesting than the "movie" itself.

Hopefully with four less directors for each feature. :cooltongue:

I have utterly no interest or care with a 1967 comedy film, that just so happens to have a Bond title. Ill pass.

No sooner had the news got out that MGM Home Entertainment were releasing a new special edition DVD of the 1967 James Bond spoof "Casino Royale" to celebrate its 40th anniversary, MI6 has been informed that the ship date has slipped from November 6th 2007 to sometime in early 2008.

Read this news at another Bond site...sad news!

I have a real soft spot for this one. Its utterly bizarre and really not a Bond film in any way. I think you need the right (or wrong) sort of sense of humour to appreciate it.

So does the current edition DVD actually have the old TV version on it as well? Can anyone confirm this?

As far as I know the only edition that has the CR'54 is the old R1 version. It seems the new (coming) version doesn't include the old tv-version. I'm afraid it isn't the complete version as it's missing the last 1-2 minutes on the old R1 btw.

I too have a soft spot for this one. Strange because it's almost not really watchable.

Yep, that's correct Mr Twilight.

The 1954 version is on the current Region 1 DVD release (but not Regions 2 or 4). No word yet on whether or not the 40th Anniversary Edition will include the Climax! episode or not.

Didn't Spyguise release a VHS of the complete 1954 TV-movie? I always wondered why they edited the 1954 version for the current DVD release.

You are absolutly right. But I was refering to DVD releases. Why they don't have the complete version on the dvd? Beats me. Guess it has something to do with the rights. I don't know for sure.
