So if we gotta give it a go we need a "board" or "team" that organize the whole thing.
Rules, how long should they be, a theme maybe. I think it would be a great idea if there is a timeframe when it should be set, for example between MWTGG and CS maybe and maybe some other criteria. Not to many and and not to tight. I think it could be necessary so it don't be too widespread. But as I said not to tight so it withhold the creative joy.
It would be fun if this "project" takes off and don't stay on the ground

Leave it up to the individual author as how he/she/they want to approach it.
More eccectic that way, and therefore more interestring as a collection.

Any other suggestions?

I'm not sure myself if I'd prefer rules or free reign for this collection. While a recurring theme would be nice, there could be several precious treasures that maybe just don't bend to rules. Really, can't make my mind up, what I'd like more...

I don't think there should be any "rules" other than it's a James Bond story.

I agree.
Edit: I already have an idea in mind... Guess I'd better start drafting it out.

What deadline would be fitting for that project? I assume there will be a considerable extent of preparation necessary for the collection to take off?

Accordingly, at present, assume a working deadline of February 29 2008. I will work out a way of people getting their stuff to me but if these are to be a "surprise" I suppose there has to be a direction that the stories don't appear elsewhere on CBn (ie in the fan fiction place).

Oh, sorry! Memory's not my strong sleeve...

As for rules, seeing as the entire point of the thing is that it is the centenary of Fleming, I think it's only fair that it be limited to Fleming's world/the era of the novels original novels - that just seems logical. No point in sticking Ketchup on the label when it's Catsup, or Hot English on the Dijon (I guess that's more apt)

As a working brief, having read through the posts here, maybe something like:
1. This is a celebration of the man who created Bond.
2. There's a presumption that the stories will be "literary" Bond, therefore rely on characters created in the novels and short stories rather than by Eon or the other film producers i.e. no Elektra King.
3. Bearing in mind that "literary" Bond encompasses Higson's 1930s Bond to Benson's early c21 Bond if someone advances a Young Bond or a Bensonesque story set in 2002, this is not a huge problem.
4. However, as he did in all Fleming's stories, James Bond must appear, although he need not be the main character.
5. It is probably better for this to be an outpouring of expression of what James Bond means to the writer rather than have too many rules. Too many rules and people may feel uncomfortable / put off by having to do things in a certain way.
6. 20,000 words max. No lower limit but there needs to be some sort of story. If you can do it in haiku, fine.
7. Deadline February 29 2008.
8. The story must not have been "published" elsewhere or anywhere else on CBn; these should come as a surprise when published. Stories as word attachments to [name]
I don't assert these proposals as definite by any means: but this needs some energy, admittedly, and it seems like too nice an idea to let dwindle.

Or, if I can't quite get it together and write a proper bit of rubbish, I'd be willing to lend a hand behind the scenes.

Knocking it out will at least be something to do between now and moving into college in mid-August.
Here we go...

Very reasonable guidelines. I'm sure there will be several fine storys to enjoy! GREAT!

Finally belted out a version of the story that has been sitting on my mind (and hardrive) for a long time now. Basically a re-cycle of an unused/unfinished piece of crap from a while back. I took out some characters that didn't work, added in another one. Tossed in some subtle pop-culture references. Now I just need to polish it. (I'll need the six or so months

Just a few additional questions to the guidelines. As already asked where do we submit? Also is the Feb deadline still standing?
Been thinking of writing some fan fiction for the site anyway and this seems like just the impetus to do it!
