YESSS!! :) CinemaConfidential.com has reported that Eddie Murphy will return to the role of Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop IV!!!
This is good news to me at least, for I would love to see Eddie Murphy rebound his career after a series of lackluster movies ( i.e. Pluto Nash, Daddy Daycare ect..) His last good movie to me anyway, was Bowfinger.

I also hope that Beverly Hills Cop 4 will be a lot better than part 3 was *crosses fingers*. Now if we can get Judge Reinhold and John Ashton to return as Rosewood and Taggart!! Here's a link to this story:

Super! Now all I have to wait on is Death Wish Part 82... :)

Can he at least be employed in Beverly Hills as a cop this time? The running back to Cali WHEN THERE'S TROUBLE theme is a little tired IMO.

These sequels are getting out of control. Let's hope BC4 will be better than Rocky Balboa when it comes to sequels.

Seriously. Just chuck Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone and Eddie Murphy in a movie with Mel Gibson and whatshisname and make ROCKY DIEs HARD in BEVERLY HILLS with COP's LEATHAL WEAPON 99

I may be a biased Rocky fan, but I seriously doubt that BEVERLY HILLS COP IV will be even remotely as good as ROCKY BALBOA, let alone better.

BTW, note that the Cinecon article begins "Eddie Murphy will be back as Axel Rose" - that I'd pay to see. :)

Loomis, what is going to make Rocky Balboa a good sequel, in your eyes? Better than BC 4

I'll answer for Loomis if I may be so bold:

Because it's a freakin Rocky movie. And we fans wanna see Rocky get a proper send off...not living in the hood, as a broke has been but rather a Champ, or a at least a valiant loser who picked up a second fortune....a winner. Rocky V was like a kick in the pills for people who loved this impossible under dog saga. :)

Well, the advance word on BALBOA is extremely positive, with a handful of rave early reviews suggesting that the film is close in terms of quality to the first outing in the series, which was, let's not forget, a Best Picture winner. Now, like I say, I'm a biased fan of the Rocky franchise, and I don't care at all for the BEVERLY HILLS COP flicks (only the first was any good, IMO), so feel free to ignore this, but I find it very, very hard to imagine BEVERLY HILLS COP IV creating the same kind of buzz as BALBOA is stirring up.

There have been plenty of comedy cop movies since the last Axel Foley adventure, so BHCIV just doesn't seem like anything fresh or new. Not that ROCKY VI is fresh or new, of course, but Rocky Balboa remains an iconic character as unique and as cherished by audiences as James Bond. In a neat parallel with the first film, when Stallone was a hungry no-hoper chasing a dream playing a hungry no-hoper chasing a dream, Rocky's comeback attempt in the new one mirrors that of its washed-up star/writer/director.

Now, BALBOA may not succeed, but, still, people are curious about it, and asking: can Rocky return to the ring? Can Stallone, at 60, still make a good film and draw an audience? I guess there'd be a similar-ish underdog quality to BHCIV, but nothing so dramatic, and the BEVERLY HILLS COPs, to be frank, never enjoyed the sort of critical reception the Rocky series did back in the day. And Axel Foley was never a much-loved iconic character like Rocky or Bond, just as Catherine Trammell wasn't, which is surely one of the reasons BASIC INSTINCT 2 bombed royally (the star used to be popular, but the character never really was). It just seems like just another tired, belated, moneygrubbing comedy sequel, like CROCODILE DUNDEE III. To me, at least.

I see! Well like you said, can Stallone make a film at 60 and still draw an audience. That is my only concern.

Compared with the Rocky Balboas, Rambos and Die Hards, Murphy is going to have a hell of a tougher time trying to get attention with a Cop IV.

For one thing, those guys are well known in those roles and those have translated over generations. They have a fan base with older moviegoers, who may attend those based on nostalgia.

The current generation knows Murphy as The Nutty Professor, Dr. Doolittle and Daddy Day Care/Haunted Mansion guy, not the trash-talking cool cop Axel Foley. That's a role that's pretty much passed him by. Does anybody really want to see him and Judge Reinhold bouncing jokes off each other in the age of frat pack/Will Ferrell comedies. Older moviegoers who grew up with Murphy are less likely to go to a comedy. It will be interesting what this film will be rated. An R would pretty much kills its chances to succeed.

The Heat's Back On!

The Heat Is On by Glenn Frey

The heat is on, on the street
Inside your head, on every beat
And the beat's so loud, deep inside
The pressure's high, just to stay alive
'Cause the heat is on

Oh-wo-ho, oh-wo-ho
Caught up in the action I've been looking out for you
Oh-wo-ho, oh-wo-ho
(Tell me can you feel it)
(Tell me can you feel it)
(Tell me can you feel it)
The heat is on, the heat is on, the heat is on
the heat is on Oh it's on the street, the heat is - on.

Oh-wo-ho, oh-wo-ho
Caught up in the action I've been looking out for you
Oh-wo-ho, oh-wo-ho
(Tell me can you feel it)
(Tell me can you feel it)
(Tell me can you feel it)
The heat is on, the heat is on, the heat is on
Oh it's on the street, the heat is - on.

The shadows are on the darker side
Behind those doors, it's a wilder ride
You can make a break, you can win or lose
That's a chance you take, when the heat's on you
When the heat is on

Oh-wo-ho, oh-wo-ho
Caught up in the action I've been looking out for you
Oh-wo-ho, oh-wo-ho
(Tell me can you feel it)
(Tell me can you feel it)
(Tell me can you feel it)
The heat is on, the heat is on, the heat is on

It's on the street
The heat is on, the heat is on, the heat is on
Yeah it's on the street
The heat is on

If this film really does get made I hope we get the Axel Foley of the first two films and not the watered down version of the character that we got in III.

I actually liked Beverly Hills Cop II.. Bridget Nielsen (pre- Flavor Flav!!) was hot!! Loved the scenes where Axel and co. show up at the Playboy mansion as pool inspectors. Chris Rock makes his movie debut as the valet.. " I get 10$ for cars, I get 20$ for limos..What the hell is this??" " Its my truck.. here's 50$ park it next to the limo!! "

Well apparently BHCIV is a go ahead.. Murphy is back and Brett Ratner (Rush Hour trilogy) will be directing.. hmm good choice in my opinion.. certainly can't do any worse than John Landis did with Beverly Hills Cop III.. I hope that Judge Reinhold and John Ashton sign on to reprise their roles as Rosewood and Taggart.. One of the biggest problems with BHC III was the lack of chemistry between Foley, Rosewood and Tagard (John Ashton was unavailable to do the third film..).

Who hacked my account two years ago? I can't believe I said all that. I actually have very fond memories of both BHC 1 & 2!!!

I'm either a very inconsistent, when in comes to my ever changing opinions, or someone really hacked my account, and that someone was so good at erasing his trails, that he/she wrote english as bad as I did/do.

I hope this finally is it. Bret Ratner is good at making entertaining movies, and Eddie should return to his most famous role as the fast talking cop from Detroit.

Yeah Brett Ratner is good as along as gets a very good script. They made the last film too light hearted and the plot and villian was bland. Eddie Murphy said he wanted to return to the more serious nature of the first two films.

I hope that Judge Reinhold and John Ashton sign on to reprise their roles as Rosewood and Taggart.. One of the biggest problems with BHC III was the lack of chemistry between Foley, Rosewood and Tagard (John Ashton was unavailable to do the third film..).

I think Reinhold is a definite possibilty. I am pretty sure Ashton may come back if the script is good. However, they retired his character so that may present a problem.

Who worries about little things like "continuity"?

Certainly not Hollywood!

I'm cautiously looking forward to this one--.
