The guy who wrote and invented that dam character wanted Roger to play Bond FIRST!!

all the crew, stuntman, actors seem to love roger the best! he had NO ego!!! and NOW after bond, roger helps out poor kids.. without looking for press for doing it!!!

he is The Saint if you ask me!! :)

all class.. and anyone who is cruel to him, I think you are a real moron?? Because what has he ever done in his career to be nothing more then class?

Hi 4 Ur Eyes Only...
I appreciate your passion in your support of Roger, and I agree with you that he is a great guy, but everyone is entitled to their own opinions and calling people who don't like Roger Moore "morons" is probably not the best way to argue your point...
I do agree with you about what a nice guy Roger is, he has done some wonderful work for Unicef, and I also love his portrayal as 007.

Actually, Fleming first wanted David Niven, Stuart Granger, or James Mason. We know how well Niven worked out.

Well thats true, but Fleming also initially said that Roger Moore was a better choice as 007 than Sean Connery (although once he saw SC in the role he warmed a little to him).
I don't think we can blame David Niven for the mess that was "Casino Royale", once Peter Sellers walked out of the project they were left with half a movie.

It was originally intended that Peter Sellers would be the only one to play a James Bond, but due to differences with Orson Welles and the way he was treated he walked from the project which left the producers with a huge problem.
Thats probably why the Sellers scenes are the best in the movie.

And this had been such a pleasant thread...

4 Ur Eyez Only...I love your spirit, and you are right, Ian Fleming did want Roger to be Bond, but you can't call folks morons because they disagree.

We must respect each others opinions...if we do that, they will respect ours, and might even change their minds about Roger.

Mmm, Fleming more than "warmed" to Connery "a little". He said he wasn't what he had in mind when he originally wrote the books but he would be if he could write them again. And to show how much he appreciated Connery's portrayal he gave Bond Scottish heritage.

Very true....Maybe "warmed" was a little too neutral. Personally I think Fleming was relieved to see a Bond movie in production. He was after all told by Broccoli's former partner that the Bond novels were not even good enough for television and had worked for months on a development with Kevin McClory and Jack Whittingham only to see those plans flounder.
