I wonder why some consider Curt Jürgens´ Stromberg a weak villain.  I always found him extremely menacing with all his barely contained anger, his amused arrogance, his quiet sadism.

I don't consider him a weak villain either.  I don't rate The Spy Who Loved Me amongst the best films in the series (another unorthodox opinion ;) ), but it's not due to Jurgens, who does a solid job as Stromberg.  There are better villains in the franchise, but there are also much weaker ones as well.

Stromberg's death always struck me, especially given it's Moore doing the deed. Nothing elaborate, simply shot over and over at point blank range.

Would this be unorthodox? Christoper Lee is the best Bond villian of the Roger Moore era despite argruably being in the weakest Bond film, and Curt Jurgens being the weakest villian in argruably the one of the best Bond films?

No, not unorthodox.

Diana Rigg and George Lazenby have no chemistry... and it ain't his fault. In fact Rigg is unlikable. He should have let her drown.

Casino Royale 1967 is in my top 10 Bond films.

I don't like Shirley Bassy's Bond themes (well maybe DAF)

I don't like Brosnan

I really like Moonraker and MWTGG

I think Goldfinger is overrated

I think Dalton and Moore are better than Connery

I think Vesper is one of the worst Bond girls and Mary Goodnight is one of the best

I have nothing to contribute but I wanted to say that I very much enjoyed reading this thread because it affirmed some of my long-held opinions. It's reassuring to know that there are those out there who also think that so-and-so wasn't as convincing as everyone always says or that such-and-such really wasn't such a bad movie.

I had so much dock asthma while reading the first page I almost fell over backwards out of my chair.

Hats off to all you courageous contributors!

-Licence to Kill is the best Bond film

-Quantum of Solace is one of the better Bond films

Highly unorthodox for my taste, indeed.  Except your liking of MR and TMWTGG.

DALTON! YES! :D I would say I am very unorthodox as I absolutely love Dalton as James Bond! I love License to Kill and the Living Daylights. Goldfinger is really overrated.

License to Kill!! YES Agreed.

I enjoyed Quantum but it isn't as good as Casino Royale or Skyfall

Carey Lowell.. hmm she isn't the best but she was great in LTK.

The only thing I disagree with you is the last part. I love the Spy Who Loved Me.

Otherwise I pretty much agreed with what you just said.

The clown scene in Octopussy is Moore's best performance in the whole serie

AVTAK gets better every time I see it

NSNA is better than YOLT, DAF, LALD, TMWGG

SF is a piece of s...

I'm with you there. Yes, the general public overrates Goldfinger, but the fan consensus usually places FRWL as the best of the Connery Bond films. I think it's time that we fans acknowledge OUR consensus regarding Goldfinger (it's okay, but the general public overrates it) and stop listing it in this thread.

It's not quite a consensus.  THIS fan doesn't think "Goldfinger" is overrated.

Ditto. I say it's Connery's best film and #2 on my list of best Bond films. I like it a lot more than FRWL.

Waitamintue Major Talon he did mean that the public overrates it but fans do not, as you basically just agree with him.

Colossus, I'm pretty sure he means that the general public rates the film too highly, but that we, the fans, recognize that it doesn't deserve the acclaim it receives.  While FRWL is my favorite Bond film, I regard "Goldfinger" as a wonderful movie, and not overrated at all.

-Goldfinger is one of the worst Bond movies

-Moonraker is extremely exciting

-Barry's music sometimes is sometimes boring

- I hate Brosnan's voice

-I hate Craig's haircut in Skyfall

-They should keep the gunbarrel at the end

-QoS titles are awesome

-Desmond Llewelyn wasn't a good choice for playing Q

-John Glen is a very good director

-Skyfall has too many defaults to be a very good Bond movie

-Sophie Marceau was bad in TWINE

All I meant was that considering Goldfinger overrated, based on what I've seen on forums such as this one, is not a particularly rare viewpoint. Yes, many fans (myself included) love Goldfinger, but enough fans consider it overrated that saying "Goldfinger is overrated" is not exactly an  "unorthodox Bond opinion." Feel free to disagree.

There appear to be many fans taking that view, but not so many that theirs has become an orthodox opinion.

I am defining orthodox (in this discussion) as "common." It may not be the dominant opinion, but when you say there are "many fans taking that view," that is PRECISELY why I consider it to be orthodox.
