If IFP were to release the Benson short story collection we've all been hoping for, this, and possibly future Bond-Moneypenny stories, should be included in the book. Maybe with more material to include such as this, IFP would finally release that collection.

However, as Tatler is a UK mag, I might have a time finding it here in LA. Going to wait a week, then do a hunt. For those of you in the UK who pick this up, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I was going to suggest that--combining the Benson and Weinberg short stories into a dual collection. That would help fill out the book and give us the short stories in novel format that so many of us have been pining for for so long.

I have to say when I first read about Samantha Weinberg's short story, I nearly fell out of my chair. I certainly wasn't expecting that.

And I have to echo K1Bond007. It is a shame that this story can only be found in the UK--same as The Moneypenny Diaries: Guardian Angel after nearly a full year later. (However, I finally did break down and buy TMD:GA this last week. I should get it about the time Casino Royale opens. Now that I bought it, just see TMD:GA get released in the U.S. in a couple of months. )

Read it today. It's.... fine. The situation isn't particularly clever and Bond doesn't feel like Bond to me but I'm sure some will enjoy it. It's less a thriller than a Mills & Boon story with Bond as the studmuffin hero.
Personally I prefer my Bond short stories to be a little snappier than this.

Personally I prefer my Bond short stories to be a little snappier than this.

I stopped by a Barnes & Noble store tonight looking to see if they had Tatler magazine and while none were on the shelves, the clerk checked her computer and said the last one they had in was for September. So you can take that for what it's worth. I'll check my Borders store later in the week.

Quite cool- sort of retro-y in a Lichtenstein kinda way; although Penny has a very modern haircut!

To be honest I feel a bit awkward doing that- I expect Ms. Weinberg visits this forum and giving away the storyline to a short story would sort of make it pointless to read it as it's so short. Perhaps when the magazine is no longer available.

To tease- Bond is in Royale on a professional assignment, Moneypenny is asked to help in a scene with M, and with the help of some gadgets she assists Bond with his plan. It doesn't go smoothly, however.

I think it varies from store to store, so you have to call them yourself. I called two Borders in my area and one carried it and the other didn't.

Nice little addition to the "canon".

Not totally with MTM when he mentions Mills and Boon style but I can see where hes coming from; to me, as in the Diaries Vol 1, Bond is a much nore idealised, piratical charmer than Fleming brooder. That said, Samanthas take on Bond is by no means the worst we have had in either literary or movie form.

Couple of casual observations: Bond is now called Bond - in Vol 1 of the Diaries, Bond was not his name in real life (some may recall that annoyed me).

Oh, and Bonds hair colour is not mentioned... but his very blue eyes are...

You might have to wait more than a week. There's a good international newsstand at the Farmer's Market, and they currently have the September issue. Same goes for the newsstand at Book Soup on Sunset, and a couple others. I finally found one in Brentwood that had the October issue. I asked them when they expected November, and they said they had JUST received October, so "at least four weeks." Drat! I'm afraid CR will be in theatres already and Secret Servant will have shipped from Amazon.co.uk before we Angelenos get to read "For Your Eyes Only, James"!!!

Too bad. I was hoping for a fix to tide me over while I wait for Secret Servant!

The one Borders I checked didn't have Tatler. I also checked another Barnes & Noble store and they were a similar situation to the previous one. So, at least from my findings, Qwerty, Barnes & Noble is the chain to check whenever the magazine might get here.

But it's not exactly a spy thriller is it? I still don't get what this series is? Is it a proper Bond story? Doesn't seem to be. Is it a Bridget Jones thing? Is it a romantic story? Who is the audience for these stories?

I think the answer to that is "women" (I'm not sure it's any more specific than that). I mean, the covers appear designed to be female friendly (you can't sell a man a pink book), they run this story in a woman's fashion mag...women. Thing is, these stories require a working knowledge of Fleming and dabble heavily in the history of Cold War, which seems to be more a male thing...so...yeah
