No contest for me- Dr. No. One of the great character inroductions in movie history.

It's also one of my favourite scenes but I've got another one:

GE...don't know why but I like it maybe it's the great atmosphere of Monte Carlo
CR...the poker game and the setting is just great

Both good ones, and both directed by Martin Campbell. They have pretty similar establishing shots too.

I'll have to go with CR, if only because it's such a vital part of the plot (and has great tension and that line "That last hand nearly killed me"). DN remains a close second with TB coming in third. There's alway's something special about Bond in a Casino, don't you think?

My ultimate favorite casino scene came from OHMSS. However, the casino scenes from THUNDERBALL, FOR YOUR EYES ONLY and CASINO ROYALE are also favorites of mine.

I agree. I like to see 007 in a casino every other movie, the same way I like a car chase in every other movie, or a boat chase.

Yep. The casino is everything that I love about Bond. It's the high life and Bond blends right into it. Gambling, alcohol, smoke wafting, expensive clothing and Bond carrying a pistol in his shoulder holster.

Which is your favourite scene of Bond in a casino out of all the ones?

Definitely Thunderball. The atmosphere, Terence Young's direction, John Barry's instrumentals of TB and Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang nicely underscoring the sequence. Sean Connery circa 1965 is the Bond every man wishes he was. The cool way he confidently beats Largo and wins and woos the gorgeous Domino. Bond cinema at its finest. I do think GoldenEye's was an excellent sequence for Brosnan's Bond though.

Dr No

Thunderball

OHMSS

DAF

TMWTGG

FYEO

Octopussy

LTK

Goldeneye

TWINE

??????Have I missed any out??????

One. The Man with the Golden Gun. It's not my favorite casino scene but I do love the scene where Bond first spots Andrea and begans to tail her. John Barry's melancholy, wistful music there really identifies her sophisticated and tragic character. Also, love the music when Bond rides by the Casino de Macau in a rickshaw. Classic.

Great scene, although I didn't leave it out. It's in the list.

And I agree with those 10 minutes of Thunderball - great stuff.

You did include it. Sorry Dave. Early stages of premature Alzheimer's setting in on me I guess. :(

Indeed. What Fleming's Bond is all about. Thank you, Terence Young.

Classic Bond.

There was no casino scene in QOS and rightly so.

Craig showed what he can do in a Casino sequence in CR. We will be very lucky if we see another casino scene in Bond 23!

I like the casino scene in "Thunderball" where Bond raises the stakes (literally and metaphorically) by repeating the word "spectre".

Exactly and the one fault I have with Dalton's Bond. He just seemed out of place in a casino and while his suit looked good, he didn't really seem as though he liked wearing it or that he was particularly interested in his surroundings at all. Craig swaggered around Casino Royale with a sassy but deadly charm that hadn't been seen since Connery and for this reason he holds the title for best casino scene, for me.

No one seems to have mentioned the Casino Royale scene in NSNA? :( Definitely the worst. Was there really arcade games in casinos in the 80s?!

I'll try to rank them:

1. Dr. No: I just love that introduction, pure class.
2. On Her Majesty's Secret Service: Class, nice music too.
3. Goldeneye: Probably the most beautiful casino of them all.
4. Casino Royale: Most of the highlights of the movie are in the casino.
5. For Your Eyes Only: Exotic.
6. Thunderball: Great confrotation between Bond and Largo and I love the exotic feeling.
7. Octopussy: Also a nice confrontation, but not a classic.
8. The World Is Not Enough: Solid, but hasn't that great atmosphere.
9. Diamonds Are Forever: Feels like a scene from an American saturday night movie.
10. Licence to Kill: Quite boring.

In my original post in this thread I ranked Casino Royale as the first with Dr. No and On Her Majesty's Secret Service as a close second. Since this thread is "favorite" casino scene, I still rank that as number one as I find it the most enjoyable to watch. Before I saw the film I was worried about pacing issues since it is the main focus of the plot of the film. After seeing it, I thought the pacing was great. However, I'd say the "best" two are without a doubt Dr. No and Thunderball. Both of those are classic Connery.

The casino in Dr.No is by far the best. It had that classic fleming feel to it, I loved how the camera never focused on Bond's face until he introduced himself, Sylvia never stood a chance at beating Bond, not to mention the way Connery looked and the way he had the cig casually clasped in between his lips as he said his name, only to moments later get up and leave, with much swagger I might add and to have sylia drool and follow after him. Bond throughout the entire series has never been this cool since.

Good choice, and of course, a classic scene.

DN - The scene is simply classic and iconic
then TB & OHMSS. Latter one got that great music.

1. On Her Majesty's Secret Service ("Teresa was a saint." This one wasn't)
2. Thunderball (wonderful scene between Connery and Celi)
3. Dr. No (classic 007 introduction)
4. Casino Royale (a lot of highlights of the movie)
5. Licence to Kill (Bond's fantastic way to get a conversation with Sanchez is wonderful)
6. Octopussy ("Spend the money quickly, Mr. Bond." He did, in the chase that followed)
7. GoldenEye (Bond and Xenia talking about their passions)
8. The Man with the Golden Gun (pure spy work here)
9. For Your Eyes Only (great atmosphere, good acting by Moore, Glover and Topol)
10. Never Say Never Again (the video game isn't great, but the way he gets in the casino without invitation is memorable)
11. The World Is Not Enough (the X-Ray glasses are fun, so is Zukovsky, but the card game is too short)
12. Diamonds Are Forever (Las Vegas kitsch is not my cup of tea)

FYEO simply because it captured a moment in time followed by lovely score when Bond and Countess go home. It's quite a sentimental moment for me. Can't explain it. ...
GE is also good. Brosnan on his first outing has an amazing amount of confidence.

I prefer to judge the casino scenes based upon atmosphere other than what is going on. So here are my favorites:

1)OHMSS - I simply love the whole sequence, accompanied by Barry's tune, "Try".

2) CASINO ROYALE - The casino sequences in Montenegro are my favorites in the movie

3) FOR YOUR EYES ONLY - Very classy atmosphere. Very elegant.

4) THUNDERBALL - Actually, I like the sequence featuring Bond's arrival at the casino in Nassau more than the actual game between him and Largo

I'm looking foward to a hopefully awesome Casino scene in bond 23....

Casino royale is my number 1 choice but while everyone metions the Montenegro scenes (and those are awesome don't get me wrong) I think the Bahama scene deserves some mention as well and i hope this is a glimpse in how the card game in bond 23 will be played out. I Just like the idea of bond just beating the villain out of his most prized possesion in a game of poker. It's so cool and Arnold subtly putting the bond theme in is so cool. Trip aces indeed B)

Actually, I love all of the casino scenes from the Bond movies - even the one from TWINE, which seems to lack the elegance of the other movies. It was still filled with a lot of atmosphere and featured a well acted scene between Brosnan, Marceau and Coltrane.

My all time favorite casino moment featured Bond's victory over Le Chiffre in CASINO ROYALE. However, I also liked:

*the introduction of Bond in DN
*Bond's arrival at the casino at Nassau in TB
*Bond bailing out Tracy in OHMSS
*the atmosphere inside Columbo's casino in FYEO
*Bond's game of dice with Kamal Khan in OP
*Bond's arrival at the casino in Monte Carlo in GE
*all of the casino scenes in CR
