For me, it's gotta be the casino scene in OHMSS where Bond is bailing Tracy out of 20,000 francs (the currency in France before the euro) when she loses her bet. Straight out of the novel. A very close second: the Bond, James Bond line at the casino in DN. Classic cinema. Just who else comes close?

Yeah OHMSS is probably my favorite. Second I'd have to say Rog in OP out-cheating Kamal Khan at backgammon. Classic stuff! Its particularly cool when Rog rolls the dice and announces "double six" without even looking at them - he and Khan both know exactly how the dice will land. :)

I like the LOOK of the Casinos in these movies:-

TB
OHMSS and FYEO

I just like the whole atmosphere of those scenes.

Agreed. I love it when Gobinda crushes the loaded dice into powder with his bare hands. I also like the casino scene in TB. Connery is classic in the way he irritates Largo.

"What do you mean?"

"The spectre of defeat;that your luck was sure to change."

Love that cat & mouse exchange.

Great scene, and nice casino too. Lsrgo is annoyed but intrigued at Bond's audacity.

The whole atmosphere is great there.

I hope Casino Royale has that kind of thing. There was a little bit of it on one of the website videos (I'm a little confused/We wouldn't want that, would we?) that suggested they were going for that Thunderball vibe.

My favorites are Dr. No (great set up of the introduction of Bond with Connery delivering a perfect reading of his name), Thunderball (terrific face-off between Bond and Largo--you can practically feel the electricity at the table in their dialogue and expressions as they gamble), and Octopussy (see dinovelvet's apt comments above. Double sixes, fancy that. :P )

Overall, I might just go with Octopussy as my top choice. In addition to the previous statements, I also enjoy the line Khan appropriates from Hugo Drax in the novel Moonraker, "Spend the money quickly, Mr. Bond." And Bond's reply, "I intend to Kamal Khan." It doesn't get much better than that. :P

I also agree that OHMSS has the best casino scene.

It also has the best decorated casino, with that fantastically retro purple wallpaper!!

I personally don't have a favourite scene, but I would like to point out the track that goes with the Casino scenes in OHMSS - "Try", by John Barry. It's a very stylish piece that could only be featured with Bond in a tuxedo with a Casino in the background. You couldn't picture it any other way.
I wouldn't mind that one being played over and over in any black tie event I would take place in.

One of these days I'll just loose it and will spend some money in a weekend over at Pal

The Khan one is a great classic. I also like the Thunderball one - a great example of the old 'he knows that he knows that he knows that he knows..."

Dr. No for the coolness of Bond's introduction. Thunderball for the humor (which somehow didn't instantly give him away). Octopussy for the coolness of seeing Bond beat an opponent at his own game, which I'll also say for NSNA, though only loosely a casino scene. Honorable mention to OHMSS for Bond's interaction with Tracy and Licence to Kill for the general atmosphere.

Casino Royale stands a damn good chance of topping my list soon enough, though. And given its title, it better.

My ranking?

#1 - Dr. No (the most memorable for me because of the classic "Bond, James Bond" line first being uttered). The coolest uttering of this line in the Bond movies IMO.

#2 - OP (just plain FUN)

#3 - TB (I like how Bond gets the girl and the dialogue is excellent)

#4 - GE (for the smooth atmosphere - If I had to pick a Casino scene I'd like to be in, it would be in GE).

I wonder how CR will fit on the list? I've heard one of the best extras in movie history might just be in this one. :)

Regards.

The baccarat game in GE betweeb Bond and Onatopp doesn't come off as well as that of either TB or DN, but Bond makes up for it by confronting Onatopp after the game about the phony French license plate on her Ferrari. Great exchange of lines here, as they try to show up each other.

DR. NO and THUNDERBALL are tops for me. The casino scenes could never be any cooler than those. Intriguingly, the same card table is used in both scenes.

ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE is nice, but just isn't as cool as it could be (partially because Lazenby isn't all that cool, so his presence doesn't really carry it all that much, and the casino setting isn't all that fantastic).

I do have a soft spot for LICENCE TO KILL's scene - I think it's really well-executed.

I have to say that I'm on the Thunderball bandwagon as well, with honorable mentions to GoldenEye and OHMSS, but I can't help liking the FYEO scene, mostly because I was finally seeing Moore's Bond playing chemin de fer!

I'm kind of surprised to not see this scene in anyone's list. I feel FYEO established Moore as James Bond more than most of the previous 4 movies combined, and the casino scene was a big part of that, IMO.
