I think M should be played by Anthony Hopkins.

My pick for M was always Anthony Hopkins, but I must admit Patrick Stewart is an interesting pick. Can you imagine those 2 extremely strong actors (Craig and Stewart) engaged in a verbal exchange. I get goosebumps thinking about it. Plus, Stewart has already played iconic roles (Picard and Prof. X), and he always pulls off a great performance. Hes one of the few actors that does not suffer from typcasting.
Mr. White must be dealt with, make it so...lol

How about Ian McShane as a future M? It could be a daring move to kill off Judi Dench as an act of retaliation from the 'organisation' mentioned in CR. The new M could be already known to Bond, perhaps a former superior officer. The new M could bring his acting secretary/attache officer Moneypenny (possibly Rachael Stirling?). It's not that I would like to see Dench killed off, but it would be particularly dramatic for Bond to lose his boss just as they are begining to trust each other. McShane can certainly portray a tough character that M would need to be.

I am wholeheartedly for Either Stewart or Hopkins. I think Hopkins can be a bit more "gruff" and more grumpy a la Fleming's original creation, yet Stewart would be a strong choice as well and would be more the "brick wall" type M--not easily argued with (and we might get to see him walk in a recent movie!)

Whst is wrong with some people?

An old Bond actor coming back into a new film would be too distracting and weird, and a terrible decision.

Certainly it would overshadow the rest of the movie, not least Daniel Craig's performance.

So Brosnan is out, then?

Seriously, it will be a man. We can basically be sure of that. The novelty of a female M has worn off, and the nostalgia of a male M is too powerful to resist.

As for specific actors, it could be almost anybody. It wouldn't be a famous actor like Anthony Hopkins, though. Probably a television actor. My personal choice would be Brian Cox. He's Scottish, authoritative, and silver-haired. He looks a bit like a cross between Bernard Lee and Marlon Brando. Best of all, he's about sixty years old, which means he could play the role for a long time. Just look at this picture and tell me he couldn't be M:

Posted Image

In fact, if anything, he looks too much like Bernard Lee! He's a very capable actor, but not too much of a star.

I like this choice! :) Cox would be great, maybe the other Hannibal if Cox didnt want in?

I like Brian Cox or Ian McShane. To go with Hopkins or Stewart is a little too conservative in the casting department for me. Someone slightly unexpected would fill the bill.

Okay, I'll go with Laz too. Plus since he isn't so famous as Bond, he wouldn't distract from DC or the story.

I'd like to see Dame Judi phased out as M over the next couple of films,
paving way for a new male M. Ray Winstone perhaps?

G'day I think Dame Judi Dench has done a good job and will certainly stay on for 2 more films so we get the complete trilogy story finished which started with Casino Royale.

If it is a women maybe Vanessa Redgrave can replace her she still looks good and can play not going to take crap from anyone authority look, and also doesn't look like a midget which i realised with Dame Judi in Casino Royale. She is 69 years old and 5'11" tall but still looks good.

As for a male M i always thought of John Nettles he has also got the presence of Authority.I can see him giving Bond a hard time. He is 63 years old and at 5'10" he would also look like a normal presence.

Jack Palance is dead so he is out, any of the old Bonds could only be that James Bond, Caine , Hopkins are too big to be just M. Hopkins i always wanted as a Villian. Brian Cox please take a brake he is around too much. Ian Mc Shame i don't see it. Patrick Stewart try it in a Pierce Brosnan film Death Train didn't work for me, Ian Mckellen again everywhere and gay to boot. Maybe someone like Edward woodward thats why i picked John Nettles M has to be hard on Bond not his mother or gran mother.

I was only joking about lazenby if any actor that played boond should even be considered for M it would be Dalton but he doesn't look old enough to play M he may be in his 60's but he looks good.

Having just seen Miami Vice - and therefore Ciaran Hinds, I'm convinced he would nail the part of M. He very much owns the scenes he's in and combined with other great work like Munich and Rome etc. he would be exellent.
Timothy Dalton would be an awsome M for Daniel Craig...
I would lovee to see Dalton act opposite Craig and giving him orders to "not make things personal" and threaten to recall 008 from Hong Kong.
Charles Dance is a great actor as well, but he is psysically to big 6

If they stick with the female M, what is your opinion on the actress, Helen Mirren?

She's a great actress, and would be fantastic for it.

I have always thought Helen Mirren would be a good choice to play M. If my dream came true I would have Helen Mirren play M in my Bond tv series 'Double O'

Who is the most appropriate M for the after-Dench times?
I think James Caan is suitable for the role. It reminds me Bernard Lee(sacrilege isn't it)

Now what do you think?

Hmmm, I've said this before but I think David Warner. I think he's at an acceptable age, 67, though we'd have to see how old he is when Dench retires. He's got a gruff authority, a little on the sarcastic side when he wants to be, but that's why I like him.

I love these suggestions!

Helen Mirren as a replacement for Dame Judi:She can be gruff(see:Prime Suspect) so in that sense she would be good for the role.

Anthony Hopkins:I'm sure there's a Hannibal Lecter joke in there someplace.I just can't think of it.He's the right age(maybe a few years *too* old?)

Female: Dunno, I think Helen Mirren would be a interesting choice. We'll see...

Really? Well interesting, yes. M? I can't see it. I'll always look at him as a London gangster, although he pulled off Henry VIII quite well...and Beowulf, although he needed a bit of CGI help with that!!!

I don't want someone over 65 when they do the first movie... ideally whoever they pick will be young enough to play the role in the post-Craig era.
