I think Charles Dance would also make a good M. Very austere.

Ciaran Hinds

Come in 007. I recall you shot me. Well, now I am your new boss. What do you say about that ?
I'd like to see him to take the role as 007's boss. It'd be a nice touch to get the guy, who got executed by DC in Road to Perdition.

Ciaran Hinds is wonderful but I'd prefer to see him as a villain than as M. We've been lacking strong villains lately and I think CH would be spot on. He certainly gives me the impression that he's in charge

I definitely like Patrick Stewart. As soon as I saw the topic, he was the first person who came to mind.Terrance Stamp or Patrick Stewart

That might be because being bald hides his grey/white hair. The absence of hair has lessened the visible signs of age on him. While looking at a photo of him from ST: TNG and another from X3, you can see that he indeed looks older in the latter, but the differences are very minute.Agree, Patrick Stewart would be a good choice (but is he crusty enough?). Anyone notice how he never seems to age. Look at the first season of Star Trek Next Generation and X3 (we're talking almost 20 years here folks!) The guy looks almost the same.

Completely agree.I've never liked Dench in the roll (at least not the role they gave her) - always complaining about Bond's male chauvenism (YAWN). It's one thing for M to correct Bond because he's irresponsible or out of line or goofing off (like the male M's did), but from the moment M called Bond a dinosaur and tried to defend her ability as a woman to be "M" I tuned out - because that does NOT come across as authority to me - but insecurity - as someone who is more self conscious of their gender than their job. I did like her best in TND but least in GE, TWINE and DAD.

I like the idea of Geoffrey Palmer, and as he's mates with Dench and has already been in a Bond film playing an admiral, it's not that implausible, either. He can do gruff, grumpy and irritable magnificently - witness his narration for the BBC series GRUMPY OLD MEN.

An unknown male British actor 60+ with white hair, smokes... and is bitter. I know that sounds familiar, but it worked. Forget all this political correctness. The head of intelligence CAN be male. I'm sure that wouldn't be considered unequal employment oppertunities.
