I am extremely disappointed and a little upset with this news.

I was greatly looking forward to 007 in 2007. Yes, it's a marketing gimmick, but it's a great one. And one that is--at best--a once in a lifetime opportunity. This is something that could have happened and SHOULD have happened. Just think of all the publicity (free and otherwise) Bond 22 would have gotten. Now it will be one of the greatest missed opportunities of the series.
For those fearing quality issues with a 12-month break between Casino Royale and Bond 22, as has been pointed out, a three-year break didn't do much for Die Another Day, so why couldn't Bond 22 be successful with only one year? And it's not like EON is going to start producing Bond films every single year. This would have been a rare and special occasion. Besides, they had said upon announcing Daniel Craig as James Bond that the script for Bond 22 was already being worked on. So they were already ahead of Casino Royale's schedule. Now we're hearing that the script isn't ready--or won't be ready--one year later? That's ridiculous. Surely a polished script can be ready in that amount of time. After all, some of the characters are returning for Bond 22 so they don't even need to be created. No, I'm afraid I do not find this news all that rewarding or enjoyable.
And as for Bond returning to the summer? I'm a little leery. Winter has always been good to Bond from Sean Connery to George Lazenby to Pierce Brosnan. Summer wasn't bad for Roger Moore either, but Timothy Dalton had some issues--including a big one which will face Bond 22. That being a lot more stiff competition than is seen in the winter, a fact which was not a good thing for Licence To Kill regardless of the terrible lack of publicity, et al, it received in 1989. While I don't doubt that Bond 22 will do well in May 2008, I can't help feeling that after three or four weeks it will begin to be swallowed up by the action blockbuster competition--something that wouldn't happen for six weeks or so in the winter.
Anyway, I guess to sum it up, Bond will be back--just not soon enough.
