any non-caucasian...(i'm not a racist...but there was chatter once about a black bond!)
any homosexual...(im not homophobic...but someone like a rupert everret type belies credability)
anyone CURRENTLY over the age of 41 (by the time pierce hangs it up after, say, a 2007 release, any one 41 would be 48 at a 2009 release and that would really be pushing it!)
anyone without a lean build
anyone who cant act...robbie williams, prince william, u know the type
any "pretty boys" such as tom cruise
matt damon, ben afflik, u know the type
hugh grant...
so now that you guys think im a sexist, racist, homophobic, anti-american age discriminator, i'm really not!

1. Laa-Laa could bring out the darker side of Bond. Po doesn't have a hope, however. This was something of a shame; I always thought that Po would have been pretty close to Ian Fleming's depiction of Bond. The heavy drinking. The rampant sexism. The arch snobbery. The brutality. Genitals mashed up by a carpet beater. The television in the stomach.
2. No to the majority of Pokemon.
3. A possible yes to some of the Digimon (at this point I realised that I had no idea what my children were babbling on about. Yet again).
4. Neil Diamond
5. Professor Snape
6. The dog
7. Mr Andrews (I am not certain who Mr Andrews is, but I think he's my daughter's teacher. What a lot of interest I am taking in her education).
8. Mrs Andrews (I fear that my daughter was losing interest in the question)
9. The horsey shaped chess man piece thing, Daddy. I want to play PlayStation. I don't want to play this game, it's boring. Robert McCarran's parents bought him a PlayStation 2 last week. Can we get a PlayStation 2?
10. Shrek
An exhaustive list there. I was quite impressed by the inclusion of Neil Diamond in the selection. A fine sense of the absurd by a nine year old. I have no idea how she heard about Neil Diamond. I think she's in with a rough lot at school. Alternatively, there's a Neil Diamond in her class. This is not necessarily a joke. A female classmate of hers is called Elvis. I kid you not.
I'm pretty sure that none of the above 10 will ever play James Bond. I'd like to thank my daughter for her input, not that I'm going to tell her that, because she's winding me up about that PlayStation 2. I think I'm going to tell her that Enrique Inglesias likes girls who play chess. I care not whether this is true.
I am a bad, bad man.

Russell Crowe, Hugh Grant, Colin Firth (sp?)........and never, never, never an American actor!!!
I agree. Never an American actor, because when us Americans talk in a british accent we over accent it, we make it to wierd sounding. We need to keep British, Irish, and Scottish actors going as Bond.

That being said:
1) The Hughs: Grant and Jackman
2) The sons: Sean Connery's son, (whose name I can't remember, but was in the series "Robin: The Hooded One") and Sean Brosnan
3) Robbie Williams
4) Either of the Finnes Brothers
5) Timothy Dalton.
Yes I know number five did happen, doesn't mean I have to like it.

It was Jason Connery in Robin of Sherwood. To get an idea of what he'd be like as Bond, see him as Ian Fleming in the ludicrous "Spymaker" (as it was released in Australia on video).
You could add Roger's son, Geoffrey Moore to the list. He appeared with his dad in "Fire, Ice and Dynamite".
Can't agree about Hugh Jackman or Timothy Dalton, and though I take your point about Daniel Day Lewis being too serious, I wouldn't mind seeing him in the role as a once only, perhaps in Casino Royale.

Russell Crowe
Crowe is always an interesting kettle of fish. While I would never like to see him as James Bond, Debbie McWilliams (casting director for Eon) said the he would be a good choice. I don't have the interview on hand, but she spoke positively of him as a potential for James Bond.

ANY American - at all. "The name's, like, Bond, James totally Bond, y'know?"
Ewan MacGregor. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a great actor, and could bring a depth and charisma to the role hitherto unseen. But to be a Jedi Knight AND James Bond? NOBODY should be allowed to be THAT lucky......the talented b*****d.
That english guy off Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Come to think of it, ANYONE off Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Ardal O'Hanlon (Father Ted fans will know what I mean)
The Rev'd Jerry Falwell (of "Tinky Winky is gay" fame)
Daniel Radcliffe (see note to Ewan MacGregor, oh, and he's too young for that sort of thing)
His Holiness Pope John Paul II - I just can't picture him in a tux for some reason.
Bill Gates - (1) we don't want to give him any mroe ideas for world domination and (2) The film would stop working for no reason at random intervals, and we'd all be forced to buy upgraded James Bond products every three years
Dame Judi Dench - as great an actress as she is, this would make the "M" scenes far too confusing.
Former Python Michael Palin - This would play havoc with the Q scenes - "This Aston Martin is no more, it has ceased to be..."
Kevin McClory - although it would be fun to watch him try and sue himself.
Prince William - enough women fancy him already.

Always found him to be curiously flat - probably ideal for the Star Wars backdrop.

The number of American actors who can credibly fake a British accent are very, very, few.
Off hand, Stacey Keach and Richard Chamberlain are the only two I can think of.
*If* he could fake the accent, though, do you think that Dylan McDermott would be, in other respects, suitable?

That's the problem; there's no such thing as a generic British accent and as long as American actors continue to believe that, then they'll never get it.

I think it is fair to say though, that an American actor playing Bond will probably be coached to go with what I have heard called the Ox/Cam accent or the BBC voice. That seems to suit Bond pretty well.
As for Persian's point: Dylan McDermott as Bond. Hmmm. I need to ponder that for a while. I promise I will get back to you.
