Although, the Nambutu Embassy is certainly entirely fictional.

Maybe (hopefully) that is what he meant.

I think the locations in CR where much better than anything we've had in years. The Bahamas looked beautiful as usual and Montenegro and all the Casino Royale/Hotel Splendide scenes looked really classy. Oh yeah and Venice... 'nuff said.

BTW, even though they didn't shoot the whole "African Rundown" sequence in Madagascar I thought the whole setup was damn impressive and outside of us fans, casual viewers probably really thought it was filmed in Africa.

I agree with that.

It's just being from the UK, I sometimes recognise UK locations being used for foreign locales, like Black Park standing in for Uganda.

I do agree. I felt that there was a certain amount of glamour, most notably in the European locales, that we had not seen in a number of previous movies.

Weren't they shot in Czech Republic? I know for sure some "Montenegro" scene were, but I don't know if it's true for all of them.

I watched DAD the other night and realised during the PTS that the location could only be England - it doesn't look much like Korea to me!

I think you can have UK locations doubling for foreign locations and it works perfectly.

Severneya in GOLDENEYE is a great example of inventive location work. Save the one unfinished model shot of the plane bouncing, who'd have guessed that was all force perspective model work at Leavesden Aerodrome? Same with Peterborough's Nene Valley Railway in GOLDENEYE and OCTOPUSSY. Plus, who can question the ST PETERSBURG sequence from GOLDENEYE? A few second unit shots of the real city, but it's 90% Leavesden backlot. Perfect!

I do agree that the location doubling on DIE ANOTHER DAY is all out horrendous, but I blame the sloppy cinematography and also (moreso) the unqualified direction, as oppose to the actual art direction. I'm sure Martin Campbell, Michael Apted or John Glen could have made that stuff work.

Good point.
