Well here it is! After days of work JCRendel and myself have put together a fan's review of the script. It's made of the views and opinions of JC and I along with a handful of others who have read the script, many you know. We still got a few more reviews waiting to come in so stay tuned. Many Thanks to those who took part! Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or comments at the e-mail provided at the end of the review. Enjoy! :D

Very well written.

Sounds fantastic (though you point out that LeChiffre is not close to Sanchez or Zorin - my two favourites).

Very balanced and the idea of putting up an interview-style is very helpful as well.

Thumbs up.

For the most part I liked the reviews. I actually scanned it first, before reading it in depth. However I was a bit disapointed when I saw who the reviews came from. With the excpetion of Frank. The reviewers seemed to be the usual Bond purist, and people here who have been lauding the film 'as the best Bond movie ever' before shooting even began! It would have been nice if the group had been more eclectic.

Some interesting stuff from Gravity's Silhouette (this is by no means to discount the other contributors, but this is the first time I've read anything really negative about the script, so naturally it's a bit of an eye-opener). Yikes. :D

For what it's worth, I had exactly the same reaction as GS when I read some of the dialogue featured in a certain important scene. Was prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt, but since GS has read the whole script (I haven't) and knows the context better....

Could we be in for the PHANTOM MENACE of the Bond series?

How in the world can ANYONE have access to the script? DAD's script had a copy protection, but CR is flying around in about everyone's home?

I saw a thing on aol.com of non james bond fans and what they think of the casino royale trailer. most said that Craig doesnt look like james bond, and many said they arent even interested in seeing it when it comes out on dvd. one person said craig is "fugly" and another said he looks like a "russian bad guy". i dont think the trailer went over well with the non bond fanatics.

Well I read it too and thought the dialogue was brilliant so I guess it's all a matter of taste, Loomis.

I thought it was refreshingly funny coming off of the Pierce era.

Loomis...

Spoiler

It's worth noting that some pretty intriguing changes may have taken place towards the third act of the film, if some comments by Martin Campbell are to be believed. He said that the infamous line would close the film in March, long after this December draft had been rewritten. In addition, they added Leiter into the mix (presumably to be more faithful than they already were). It's possible the final film may resolve itself quite differently from what we have here.

Could we be in for the PHANTOM MENACE of the Bond series?

There's just no way, in my opinion. Even at the very worst CASINO ROYALE could be, it still mops the floor with the past three Bond films, and I'd give it the edge over GOLDENEYE, LICENCE TO KILL, and THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS, just because I think there's more to like in CASINO ROYALE than in any of those films.

I have nothing but respect for Gravity's Silhouette as a Bond fan, but his and my own views on Bond are entirely different. For starters, he abhors Dalton and Dalton's films (and I believe also dislikes FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, one of the films I consider a sort of "sacred cow" of the franchise) and digs THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH (a film I couldn't be less happy with). He also can't stand the casting of Daniel Craig one bit and as a result of that and many other things had a real intense dislike for CASINO ROYALE even before he read the script. We come from two very different places, and naturally he and I aren't going to see eye-to-eye.

I gather from GS' remarks in your Q&A that his tastes in Bond are also rather different to my own, but I do think he makes good points and explains them intelligently (which isn't to say that you and the more positive reviewers don't too), so naturally I tend to listen---- well, read  , whenever someone does that (as opposed to just saying "Craig is too blonde and ugly this is a disaster why didn't they keep Pierce!"). I do suspect that GS might be rather more pro-CR if he approved of Craig or if someone else had been cast, but at the same time I do agree with his observations on the dialogue in that scene. Not only did it strike me as inappropriate comic relief (although it is, of course, possible that it'll be delivered well), but also as nonsensical
Spoiler
.

But I'm looking forward to a lot of the other dialogue, and the Miami sequence sounds absolutely stunning, and probably worth the price of admission on its own. :D

Stunning doesnt even beging to describe it. The Miami action sequence will make DAD look like a Saturday Morning Cartoon!

Ok, maybe that's a bit much, but you get the gist.
