Now, I'd love the girl to be exotically good looking too.

Well, that's a different interpretation than Fleming ever had (in Fleming, he's more of just a sleazy character all around, and not necessarily at all brilliant). Le Chiffre has never really been tragic, though.
I see Le Chiffre as a twisted and tragic character. He's a genius businessman who gets evil because he's really desperate.
Now, in contrast to Fleming, the Le Chiffre presented in CASINO ROYALE seems to be quite intelligent, but still always a decently bad guy.
No, that was only my view of the charachter. But still, Le Chiffre is one of the few villains that is not killed by Bond. And he's pretty desperate, I felt sorry for him when I read the book. At least in his last scene
You felt sorry for Le Chiffre as he was torturing Bond?...
No, his death scene.
Maybe, I'm the one who is twisted

Great. I've long wanted them to go back to the Eurovillain. Hopefully he's good.
Now, I'd love the girl to be exotically good looking too.
ACEY we are speaking the same language.

And hello MM.

However, having not seen him act yet, I refuse to pass any wild judgement just yet. I trust EOn in their casting of this film and, although not my first choice, I've heard that Mikkelsen is a good actor, and yes I could imagine him in a Bond film. He just wasn't what I thought of as Le Chiffre. Still, I won't get involved in any arguments about who is and isn't Le Chiffre, and I'll wait til November before I make my mind up on him.

I agree with most here in that Mads Mikkelsen looks more like a henchman than as the main villain. I did see King Arthur but I don't remember his Tristan role at all. As a result, I can't say that I would be all that thrilled to see him be cast as Le Chiffre (not that I would be overly disappointed either). I would prefer Jurgen Tarrach who does look a lot like Le Chiffre from the novel. Still, it doesn't sound like this rumor's source is genuine.
Agree... I wanted Tarrach!!
Not Mikkelsen

Yeah I can see what you mean, those eyes do have something about them... Still, I wouldn't have him with a shaven head, that would really allow people to think he looks more like a henchman than the main villian. He does look good, not my first choice but I'll still wait til November before I pass judgement on the guy.Check ou this picture of Mads in Pusher 2 that was in Stax's article. He looks very chilling and will make a fine Le Chiffre. I really hope they go for this look.

... But imagine this face staring at you while you're tied naked to a chair. Shudder.
He'll do.

Yeah same, like I said about those eyes.... I must admire EON for this, I mean I've already stated that, although I'll wait til CR comes out before passing judgements, Mikkelsen doesn't look like the Le Chiffre in my head. However, I admire EON for making 2 choices on cast members in this film that weren't everbody's first choice (Craig and Mikkelsen). Both are looking to be interesting and inspired choices, and it shows us that EON know what they're doing with this film.Well, a shaven head worked okay for Blofeld, of course. But I do see where you're coming from with the henchman thing, Carver.
That PUSHER 2 pic's sold me a bit on Mikkelsen, though.

And Gulshan Grover's statement is?
That he will play the character of Le Chiffre in the PTS only to have his hovercraft go off a waterfall and then undergoing gene therapy and becoming the Mads Mikkelsen character.

Gulshan Grover will be playing the role of the carpet beater.
*In Andy Pipkin voice* Don't like 'im!
<points to Jurgen Tarrach>
"Want that one!"

I'm trusting that the spy film gods have blessed us with this casting choice.

Okay, I didn't have long to wait, did I?I've gone numb to all these names. I don't even know who all these actors are anyway. Le Chiffre will be some European actor I've never heard of. Fine. When Eon announces who that actor is, then I will try and formulate some kind of opinion (I feel this was about the Vesper search as well).

And my opinion is...he looks fine. Younger than I like my Bond villains, but I'll live with it. Let's just get on with it.

Gulshan Grover must be spinning the twist of his emotional code. David Suchet will be waxing his moustache for the next year. I heard Rikki Lee Travolta turned them down.
I think Mr Mikkelsen looks like he could be deeply scary. Bravo!

I think he's an interesting pick. He's a cross between Loque in FYEO and Graves in DAD. I want to see PUSHER now. They're definitely going for a doppleganger thing with Craig -- those cruel eyes. I'd believe Mikkelsen as a cruel but brilliant man who views the world almost mathematically. I can also see him a tux playing cards in a casino with a hot vixen by his side. He looks like William Fichtner a bit.
Cool pic:

Wonder if they'll pad him out or disfigure him a bit to try fit the novel image some more?
