Daniel Craig on 'Casino Royale': "Wait and see."

New James Bond Speaks at LA Young Actors Company Event
Daniel Craig made his first post-007 announcement appearance at a fundraiser for the Los Angeles Young Actors Company on Sunday, November 6, 2005. The launch event for the organization featured autographed memorabilia up for silent auction.

Not much, no, except his mention about Judi Dench pretty much.

I love his down to earth, no nonsense style...kinda like Russell Crowe.

His casting is looking more and more exciting as we head into principal shooting in January.

Being a Bond fan is going to be "hip" again! Woohoo!!!

I like his style too. It's very refreshing to have an actor who doesn't speak in sound bites that the studio came up with. If nothing else, his interviews should be a hoot.

In a way, I think his public persona is closer to how I imagine Bond would take press interviews. I've always pictured as Bond with a man who has very little love for putting on a show just to put on a show. Craig's attitude is also very refreshing in a business that is full of saying junk just to sound nice, and thus I love his rougher style. It's very, very Fleming.

Not much info but I really hope he colours his hair. Then we practically have our novel James Bond with icecold blue eyes and black hair.

Can you hear that? That rumbling in the distance? Appoaching slowly? The relentless, monotonous drone of those who would disqualify Craig as Bond because he does not answer questions with a sunshiney quip whilst juggling some lovely wabbits and stroking the head of a limbless orphan?

Give them time.

"Wait and see".

Answer me this...

If it's supposed to be Bond's first mission, how can Judi Dench be M?

She took over the position just prior to Goldeneye.

I realize it most likely won't be set in the 60s but, if they use her, it would be a continuity snafu.

Just an observation....

"Wait and see" is the only thing we can do to judge his performance as Bond. But at this point, I think his attitude towards the movie and somewhat unexcited behavior is unprofessional and completely wrong for Bond... and the press will probably hang him for it.

What's the deal about not talking about 'Munich'? It's a little odd.

Personally I don't give a fig how he gives interviews. Doesn't the film any better.

I doubt it - as soon as the press realise he really doesn't regard them too highly and that he doesn't either rise to it or care about them, they will get bored and just judge the film on its own merits.

To be frank, I think his no nonsense attitude is more closely resembling that of Connery, and we all know how his attitude benefitted the films.

I like his attitude, and it all depends on how he is saying, "Wait and see." I can definitely see him saying it with a confident smile that shows his excitement. I sincerely doubt he really hasn't given Bond, "A second thought." He sounds like a man who has a job to finish right now and wants to stay focused on it. Beside, with Campbell running off at the mouth at every opportunity, it is nice to have at least one principal trying to create an air of mystery around CR.

As for the press eating him alive:

And the friendly Craig assured us we'd get more out of him later. "I will be talking lots and I

I view Craig like a Dalton. Connery was Bond and nothing Moore. Lazenby was a model who walked into Bond. Moore had a decent career going but nothing Moore. Dalton was a serious actor who took his parts seriously. Brosnan was a B-list actor who wouldn't have even gain anything if it wasn't for Bond. While Craig is in films like Munich and playing alongside Kidman. Also receive great reviews for his performance in Layer Cake. Is considered a star on the rise. He wants to not be all 100% Bond. Now his response of youa are mistaking me for someone who gives a [censored]. Now think about that and think about the last line in the book Casino Royale.

Not necessarily. He said he was giving his focus on the film he was currently working on. I wouldn't criticize him because of that. Heck I'd do the same.

Well Craig, like Brosnan, Russell Crowe and Christian Bale. Have a bit of a 'sailors' mouth. Their go to word is 'f___' and use a lot of profanity. I glanced at the piece on Craig in the most recent issue of British GQ and he described spy's as 'F--ing c*nts'. Not everyone is elequent. Swearing doesn't bother me. As long as it doesn't translate to the character of the person.

As to the charge of him not being a showman. I'm just wondering if this is British (or Australian/New Zealandish) trait. I've just noticed that British actors, especially the male ones. Seem to shy away from showing off.
I read an interview with Christian Bale ealier this year where he criticized actors who preen and strut.

It's amazing how Daniel Craig gives an interview and sheds absolutely no light whatsoever on Casino Royale or his portrayal of Bond, and yet so many on this forum heap on the praise. For what? Being so vague with the press again? It baffles the mind.

...and the sheep continue to gather.
