Okay, Bond isn't actually mentioned in this new piece of Craig "news", incredibly enough, but one wonders whether he sees himself as too "sledgehammer" or "nutcase" for 007.

well one suspects he won't be telling Solitaire that he is "just being disarming, Darling". But Bond as the Secret Service's "blunt instrument" - check.

Bond fans will probably be proven dead wrong about Craig just as Bat-fans were about Michael Keaton and X-fans about Hugh Jackman. Lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth over nothing. Have more faith in the durability of your favorite franchise, will ya? Craig won't kill it.

View Post

That's all well and good but Jackman and Keaton don't have facial features that look like the back end of a bus. No-ones questioning Craig's acting credentials or his ability to serve Flemings character..but people are quite universal about his appearance. This "orrible looking pikey" simply does not have the required leading man looks to carry a major motion picture let alone the biggest franchise in the history of cinema. He's a character actor and a bloody good one..but he absolutely isn't James Bond!

Wow, I've just clicked on the link above and watched the 01.30 mins CR movie starring Craig. What a work of art! Brilliantly done by assembling lots of different clips. Craig looks very good I must say. PB is still my first choice for CR, but I must say I'm coming round to Mr Craig.

The Variety article says that four relatively unknowns are in the running but it really doesn't say that they are the ONLY ones in the running. They could just be four of many in consideration and they are just focusing on them. Hey, I can read into the lines as easily as the rest of you. Still hoping for Butler.

ok, I have seen Layer Cake by now and I must say that craig was not bad in it,but there are two reasons he mustn`t be bond:
1. he is a matthew vaughn-puppy
2. he looks too much like the young donald trump
just my personal opinion

I just finished watching Layer Cake and am currently viewing the Q&A w/Craig & Vaughn. Craig stated that his character in the flick was supposed to be bland and unrecognizeable- someone who you wouldn't notice but is able to work in the various levels of his buisness (Layers).

I'm curious as to if the folks @ EON are harking back to Fleming's Bond and looking @ Craig's rather anonymous look for CR. I wonder if Craig- if selected, would be a one-off due to the type of story CR is or are EON & Sony confident that Craig is truly the man to succeed Brosnan and carry the franchise.

I guess we'll find out soon.

Found this pic of Craig and thought that it looked better than most of the pictures being posted of him as a potential Bond, so I thought I'd go ahead and post it here (apologies in advance if someone else already put this up on the site):

In this pic, I think that he looks very "Bondian". I don't think he'll get the part, but hopefully EON will choose him over the other three that we're hearing so much about now.

That's one of the better pictures i've seen of Craig and he does have a slight Connery-esque look (Dr. No) about him.

No, not in a million years.

Perhaps there's a battle among The Powers That Be not only about which actor to cast as Bond, but also about whether to do a BOND BEGINS-style "reboot" (or about exactly how far to go with a reboot).

Craig could certainly play a Bond relatively new to MI6 - I mean, we're not talking Moore in OCTOPUSSY, after all. But he'd be an absurd choice for the sort of full-on origin story we've been hearing about.

Interesting. Cheers for the alert. :)

It's the new James Blond
by NICOLE LAMPERT, Daily Mail

08:14am 11th October 2005

He has just proved his lady-killing credentials by seducing Sienna Miller from under the nose of his friend, Jude Law.

Now Daniel Craig is about to become the biggest seducer of all - Ian Fleming's James Bond.

The actor, who found fame as Geordie in the BBC series Our Friends in the North in 1996, got the job after an 18-month mission to replace Pierce Brosnan.

Scores of others, including Law himself, Ewan McGregor, Colin Farrell and Orlando Bloom, were considered but rejected.

Shortlist of two

In the end a shortlist of two emerged - Craig and newcomer Henry Cavill. The pair were auditioned again and tried on tuxedos to see how they would look in the quintessential Bond clothing.

Craig, 37, whose choice will be confirmed by producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson later this week, will be the sixth Bond, but the first blond.

He will star in the 21st Bond film, based on Ian Fleming's first book Casino Royale.

Craig has said he does not like the fact that the films are more about gadgets than feelings.

He added: "It's a big machine and it makes a lot of money - so why would you change something that makes a lot of money?"

Nicole Lampert is the journalist that started all this, when she wrote that now infamous article saying Brosnan had been axed due to him being to old. (before CBn, before Mr KKBB, everyone!)

There is more to this, her name on it tells us that.

Her inside info was ahead of everyone else once before, famously.

Please let this be true!

I completely agree with you, Loomis. Craig as 00-rookie or 00-greenhorn? He might be a wonderful actor, but he looks even older than Pierce Brosnan. I can't imagine any haircut or makeup on him that would do the job to make him look any younger. Maybe a little digital wizardry? No, just kidding. His life is written on his face and that makes him a great character actor, but certainly not a freshman. In my opinion he contradicts the concept behind CR (the movie) as described so far by Martin Campbell or Purvis and Wade. Seems like they will have to work on the script again and we will finally have a 007 vehicle that would fit for any mature actor. That means no reboot, but the same procedure as always.

There's a difference between young and unseasoned. Craig can't play young but he could do an "early" or unseasoned Bond who finally comes into his own. Most veteran special forces guys who become the elite are in their late 30s. Ever see group photos of Delta, Seals or SAS guys? They all look like fortyish and like they should be shopping at Home Depot. They're not the 23-year-old cover boys Hollywood would have you believe a government is entrusting their most sensitive missions with.
