CBn in it latest Podcast gives the exclusive tidbit that Daniel Craig could very well be back big time as a Bond contender. Suprised that this seems to not be noticed, so a thread to this possibility is deserved.

This would show that the search is still wide open and seems open to new and "old" candidates. Perhaps we shouldn't completely rule anyone out yet. This also shows Eon considering someone who is what--37. So that definitely is an indication of no baby bond.

This shows that the now final three are NOT actually the only choices possible and that in fact if Eon/Sony is looking still it may be possible none of this so called final three impressed enough to win the job. So they may be out.

So what does everyone think of Daniel Craig as Bond? It would be a ballsy, offbeat choice. He's an excellent actor with a strong screen presense and a great British voice. Yes he is not classically good looking but i've seen pictures of him while he was promoting Layer Cake where he looked suprisingly good, cool and tough. Also a plus that he is not a baby bond. I'd take him over Goran, Henry and even Alex in a heartbeat. I have others who i'd pick before Craig BUT as we have all seen we can do a lot worse than he.

It would be a shame if they did, probably the worst of the so-called "big named candidates". Blonde, ugly, and too obscure. I'm sure he can pull of the toughness, but can he attract women?

This is great to hear. Daniel Craig and Clive Owen have been my two top choices all along, and now that one of them may be back in the fold is great news to me.

I think that Daniel Craig would make a fantastic James Bond. He would bring the character a harder edge than we've seen in a while, and he would certainly be a great fit for Casino Royale and the new direction that EON is supposedly taking the franchise in.

Great news! :) :)

EDIT: It's also kind of funny that I mentioned this a couple of days ago when the Hollywood Reporter article came out that Craig having impressed Pascal and Brocolli may be enough to keep him in the "race" so to speak if they were truly having this much difficulty casting the role. One other thing of importance to note: we haven't heard much, if anything, from Craig since Layer Cake was released in the U.S., whereas some of the other Bond candidates have been saying that they've tested for the role, etc.

A bit ugly and a bit too blonde, but otherwise a fine choice. Make-up may do fine fixing these problem for this film, but how will he age if he looks this rough now?

Yuck! he's ugly...he is no way good looking enough to play 007 and Evan is right...he will probably not age as well as the other Bond actors have.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! :) I so hope that Daniel Craig is not back in the running for Bond. While he may be a fine actor, he definitely is not good looking enough for 007.

Perhaps some dermabrasion. :) He could get some Nip/Tuck from Julian--he certainly wouldn't be the first actor to do the plastic thang. :) Seriously it's hard to say how someone will age--some like Connery look older quicker but then level off for a long time and holds the looks.

I will say this--Craig is controversial. Some love him and others hate him. I do think if you see a number of different pictures, he can look rather good in a tough cool Steve McQueen way.

I think that all Daniel Craig would need to fit into the role would be to have his hair dyed darker, and then I think he would be ready to go.

I've just google imaged him and was going to say exactly the same about his ' Steve McQueen' image.

I think this guy is just what Eon need to break the Bond cliche - that the actor playing Bond is something of a wooden tailor's dummy.
Bond doesn't come across this way in the novel of Casino Royale.

I really think this could be the guy - and if they can get say a trilogy of (hyper)realistic / great fun + involving/ 'gripping' - espionage thrillers (with just a hint of the good ol' fashioned attitudes) out of this guy, then that sets Eon up for another decade.

He could actually make bond COOL again. I don't really think that many people (outside of Bandfanatics) think of Brosnan as being 'cool'. Connery was cool, Moore was cool (in an iconic/funny way), the others have, I think, kind of lacked a general perception of coolness - but from what I gather this fellow has it! (Has Butler? Has Scott? Has that 22 year old boy?)

And the way I see it, a man doesn't have to look like a male model to be good looking, this guy looks like an alpha male male to me - I can imagine that he could sleep with some of the most beautiful wimmin in the world. Hell he probably has.

Craig would be a wonderful choice, perhaps even better than Owen, whom I also champion. I'd be delighted if he were cast. Definitely a "love or hate" choice, though, as Seannery suggests.

A couple of potential problems, though. Didn't Craig speak out earlier this about his brushes with Bond, saying that Sony offered him the role (yep, that's offered him the role, not just that Sony wanted him) but Eon didn't seem interested? Also, doesn't the Hollywood Reporter piece state that Broccoli likes the idea of him as Bond, but Wilson isn't keen?

Possible embarrassments if Craig were to be announced as the new 007?

I would be very happy with him as Bond. Very happy.

It may be interesting to note at this point that Broccoli and Wilson always mentioned the way Brosnan could play

Well even before DAD there was a rumour that Babs didn't like Brosnan. In fact Cubby went on record as saying he wasn't keen at first. I think there are even other stories about Sean, Roger and George having to convince Cubby and Harry. At the end of the day perhaps Wilson may be out voted.

Of all the contestants (even including Owen), I would say that if a Craig Bond film were put up against the next Bourne film - people would be hard pressed to say which one held the highest degree of cool-factor. Come on everyone - see the light.

If Craig were the next Bond...the movie would bomb. Why? because Craig is ugly! They would lose the female demographic which has become so important in the last couple of decades.

Yes, he's "a bit ugly", but hopefully Craig's acting ability and his screen presence (two different things, of course), which are both pretty darn sensational, will land him the part.

Have you seen LAYER CAKE, Mister Asterix? If not, I urge you to rent it (assuming it's on DVD in the States). You'll understand where the "Craig For Bond" lobby is coming from. If you watch his performance while trying to judge his suitability for Bond, you'll see an awful lot of Dalton (but much more "intense") and (as contradictory and daft as this may seem) a fair bit of Moore, along with a lot of energy and coolness. The previous Bond he'd be most similar to would be Dalton, no question, but he'd definitely make the role his own and bring something of a new style to the table - he wouldn't just be an uglier Dalton clone.

The big question is: can he carry a film? For me, he carries LAYER CAKE pretty much singlehandedly. I don't think it's a particularly good film, frankly - Matthew Vaughn's direction is stylish, if too flashy too often, but the script is fairly poor, and there aren't any interesting characters. But Craig's performance was good enough to keep me watching until the end, which says a great deal for his abilities. I've also noticed a great deal of screen presence in a couple of things he's been in that I happened to catch bits of on TV, so I'm sure that LAYER CAKE isn't just a one-off for the Craigmeister.

Sony and Eon, sign him up! :)

I agree completely. I thought that Layer Cake on its own was a mediocre movie at best, but Daniel Craig's performance completely saved it and made it a great movie for me. Based on that film alone, I think that he should definitely be cast as Bond #6. Yes, he would be closer to Dalton than to Brosnan, and I think that that makes a few people a little nervous about hiim as a potential Bond. Hopefully he'll be cast, and he'll change a lot of peoples' minds once we all get to see him actually as James Bond.

Craig's profile should be pretty high come December and January, thanks to his role in Spielberg's MUNICH, which will be released in the States in December and in other countries in January. A good time to start shooting Bond with him.

Paul Haggis as co-screenwriter, Craig as Bond? Is the news just getting better and better? :)

But, nah, he won't get it. Of that I'm sure. At the start of next week, I expect there'll be a hot new "Brosnan to return?" rumour, and then at some point in the week after that we'll all be convinced that Cavill's got the gig. And then there'll be speculation about someone else. And on and on it'll go until an eventual announcement at the end of this year or in January.

We've been here before. Many times. Oh, well, at least it's nice that Craig's getting his 15 minutes of Bond-related attention (again), because he'd be a terrific choice.

I am so against Craig as Bond that I would honestly prefer Ewan Stewart as Bond. I'm not knocking anyone's opinion of Craig, I just think he is wrong based on looks. James Bond...the man every woman wants to be with and the man everybody wants to be. If Danial Craig is Bond, then I don't want to be James Bond anymore. Even Dougray Scot has more of the Bond looks than Craig as far as I'm concerned. I say that if Eon decide to go with an unconventional-looking actor to play Bond, then they should go with Paul Bettany.
