But there are people to thank for this:
Paul Tabliabue and Roger Goodell who made sure the Saints stayed in NO
Tom Benson for thanking the people of Louisiana and then the people of NO
LSU-B/c they showed NO fans how to celebrate. NO is still standing.
Indy Colts fans-for being GREAT people. You guys are tops in my book.
The Saints organization for working their @$$es off this year.
I still can't believe I have lived through 6 LSU Baseball Titles, 2 LSU Football Titles (I never thought I'd ever see one) and the Saints winning a Super Bowl. Jesus is coming back any minute now...

Just a quick note about the fans of the Colts..while 20,000 strong Saints fans showed up to support the Saints in their parade, you know how many Colts faithful showed up at the airport in Indy to welcome home their team?? 11....not 11,000..not even 1,100 but ELEVEN!! ("These go to eleven!"- Nigel Tufnel) What in the world?? That is truly pathetic.. come on Colts fans.. that ain't right!
Maybe it's the Colts fans further displaying their displeasure with the team's decision to give up on the season and not try in the last 2 games. Actually, seeing as how the Colts' fans paid full price for tickets to watch Curtis Painter and the Colts JV squad get beat by the then extremely mediocre New York Jets, I don't have a problem with them not showing up to greet the team home.
The Colts organization can't have it both ways. They can't give up on the season and then expect a heroes' welcome when they failed at the goal giving up on the season was supposed to achieve for them.

Which is actually pretty funny, considering that I had been reading numerous articles before the conference championship games that a Super Bowl featuring either the Jets or Saints would probably mean a drop in viewers from the previous year.

Uh, I'm afraid you're mistaken. Roger Craig didn't make the Hall Of Fame. His teammate Jerry Rice did. Also getting in were Redskin guard Russ Grimm, Saint linebacker Rickey Jackson, Lions defensive back Dick LeBeau, Bronco running back Floyd Little, Viking defensive tackle John Randle, and my personal favorite, Cowboy running back Emmitt Smith. And congratulations to former San Francisco and Minnesota running back Roger Craig on his election this year to the NFL Hall of Fame. I would have to admit I'm somewhat partial to that election, because I played high school football with him, and we have the same birthday date as well. Roger won three Super Bowls with the 49ers, and did almost as well with his later teams. He never got any egos with his wins, he always stayed fixed and focused. Congrats, Roger, see ya in Canton!

NFL Draft coming soon, but I won't post a mock draft this year. Just don't have the time.
Tomnlinson and Sproles out in SD-I hope Tarl is doing ok. I've been worried.

LT suffered a tragic decline in such a short period of time from his ungodly 2006 MVP season. Love the guy and all he did and the way he handled his bizness but 2-3 yards per carry on average aint gonna cut it; great player but he no longer made people miss. I wish him well with the... Jets.

This is one of the worst signings in years by the New York Jets, who now seem to have decided to give up on an opportunity to actually win something in order to sign high profile players once again. Thomas Jones rushed for 1400 yards last year, but was let go in favor of LT, who would be lucky to accumulate that many yards over the course of two seasons, in what amounts to one of the dumbest moves I've ever seen the Jets make.
And hopefully this Cromartie trade is just a stepping stone to getting that CB from Oakland, because I'm not sure that Cromartie, with all of his conduct issues and his lack of production over the past two years, is much of an upgrade over Lito Shephard.

What's the deal, Tarl? You must be at least slightly worried that Quinn will usurp Rivers as the premiere slinger in the AFC West...

I'm 50/50 on this trade.. I HATED giving up Payton Hillis (Coach McDumbass was too stubborn to give him a fair chance as RB) but considering we only give him and two picks next year to Cleveland for the Mighty Quinn..it could be a steal.. Then again Brady (Bunch) Quinn may turn out to be a pleasant surprise..or he could turn out to be the next Matt Cassell..great with the Patriots, but downright awful with the KC Chiefs... ahh the drama continues...I'm just betting McDaniels will make some more questionable moves on draft day!

It'll be an exciting ride, I'm sure. Bronco football since about the time Shanahan was fired has been surreal, ridiculous and heartbreaking, but it ain't boring.
I hope most of us are wrong about McD and he's the evil boy genius executing the master plan. I suppose the good news is that if he screws up next season it seems reasonable to me that he'll be gone. He's got to take the Broncos to the playoffs. I'd like to see the AFC West rise again and get the old competitiveness flowing again. It's boring to watch San Diego rule the roost.

I actually do remember the 63-yarder he kicked. I was living in CO at the time watching the game on TV. I remember thinking that it looked like he could have cleared the bar from 66 or 67 yards!

The first surprising news of the evening was that the Pittsburgh Steelers traded troubled wide receiver Santonio Holmes to the New York Jets.
Second, and even more shocking, were the reports of what the Steelers got from the Jets in return: a 5th-round draft pick.
Just to recap, Santonio Holmes is 26 years old, a former first-round draft pick, has racked up 3,835 receiving yards in his four years in the league, become a favorite target of Ben Roethlisberger(notes) and, oh yeah, won a Super Bowl MVP.
And all he could fetch in a trade was a 5th-rounder?
Sure, Santonio may have some substance-related issues, and he may enjoy some inappropriate beverage-hurling, but still, a fifth-round pick? That seems closer to the asking price for Limas Sweed than Santonio Holmes.
It's a nice acquisition for the Jets, but for a lot of reasons, it's a much bigger deal for Pittsburgh. Let's start with on-the-field repercussions. This weakens the Steelers, without question. Rookie third receiver Mike Wallace was impressive last year and everything, but let's not get carried away: He's had one year, in which he made 39 catches as a number three receiver on whom no one was focusing their defense. That is not the same as producing Santonio-like stats as a number two.
And I always felt like there was great on-field chemistry between Ben Roethlisberger and Holmes. So many times when Roethlisberger ran for his life and extended a play about 8 seconds beyond its original design, he looked at Holmes to get open and bail him out. Holmes had the physical skills and the right mindset to play with a quarterback who improvises as much as Roethlisberger.
For a team that features the passing game as heavily as the Steelers, this is a very bold move. It's a risk.
So why take it? Well, the most likely thing is that the Steelers felt they had to do it. With all the recent negative headlines surrounding the team, I guess they felt like they had to send a message to potential troublemakers: If you behave like an idiot, you cannot be a Pittsburgh Steeler.
I still question taking the short end of the stick in a trade in order to make that point, but, you know, if a point's got to be made ... they just made it with authority.
Ideally, this works out for the Steelers a lot like it did when they let Plaxico Burress leave as a free agent. After one Plaxico-free year, they drafted Holmes, and they were immediately back to having a fearsome duo at wide receiver. If everything goes perfectly, Wallace steps into that role now, and he and Ward are still a receiving force to be reckoned with.
More importantly, the message (which SI's Peter King has already described as "shot across the bow to Big Ben") gets through, too, and the Steelers can take a baby step back towards being viewed as an organization that only employs football players of decent character.

So the Jets add a serious weapon to their growing arsenal. They look like they could be one of the most interesting teams in the league next season.

They'll definitely be one of the more interesting teams around, but it'll be for all the wrong reasons. These "all-star" teams like the Jets are trying to assemble rarely, if ever, work (just ask Washington). When the Jets are sitting at somewhere around 3-5 or 4-4 at the midway point, there'll be a lot of finger-pointing going on within the organization, as this is a group that, no matter how talented, always manages to fail in the clutch, and 2010 will be no different.
Their biggest problem will be that they're a running team that's trying to convert to a passing team with a still very inexperience quarterback. All three running backs on roster are injury-prone, and none are as good as Thomas Jones was anyway (or at least not as good a fit in the team's system), so to make up for that lack of production, they're going to put all that pressure on Sanchez's shoulders, which is where the downfall of the team is going to be in 2010. Sanchez will be a great NFL quarterback someday, but it'll likely be once he's moved on to another organization.
At this point, the Jets appear to just be doing all of this for the headlines. I'll give them this, they have won the offseason championship (which means absolutely nothing, obviously), but the actual championship (at least of the AFC) still will be battled out between the Patriots, Colts, and Chargers until proven otherwise.

Meh..ok.. I guess I can live with this.. I can totally understand teams not wanting to give a first round pick..after all the crap he's pulled off the field, it's understandable that his value would drop to a second round.. Still though, TWO second round picks sounds good.. I'm just hoping the Broncos do NOT squander these pics next week in the draft!
Thoughts, Eric?
CORRECTION: Ooops...looking again, it looks like the Broncos get 1 second round pick this year and the 2nd NEXT year!

The Dolphins have gotten significantly better with this trade, and should be able to contend for the division title with the Patriots as a result. This division really has all of the storylines, from a dynasty trying to hang on to that dynasty status in the Patriots, and up and coming team that is being built the right way (through the draft but supplemented with smart personnel moves) in the Dolphins, to a loud and obnoxious team that is setting itself up for one of the biggest collapses in NFL history in the Jets. Regardless of whether the Dolphins or Patriots end up on top, it'll be an interesting ride nonetheless.

Bradford IMO is not worth the top pick-whether its Cleveland or St Louis. I'd take him later in the draft. He is 1st round talent, but not that high.
Colt McCoy-I like him if I'm the Rams in the top of the 2nd round.
Tim Tebow-He needs to be a backup, and not thrown into the starting lineup. Look for him to go sometime Friday.
Tony Pike-The QB from Cincinnati is the one to really watch. He has the height and the arm strength down, but needs to take center snaps as he was in a shotgun offense in college.

So here is how it breaks down..
Denver sends Detroit TE Scheffler AND our 7th round pick this year, The Lions send LB Ernie Simms to the Philadelphia Eagles and the Eagles send Denver their 5th round pick this year.

Anyhoots....it's gonna be an interesting week for us NFL fans here at CBN (nice to have something to distract us from all the bickering and fighting thats going on in other threads here.. ) The schedule for the 2010 season comes out tomorrow and the draft begins Thurs and goes through Sat... Should be fun!

The draft will be interesting and will be crucial for Denver's future, but all of this trading of talent and dealing for draft picks makes next season even riskier than before, don't you think? It's going to take those talented rookies some time to become full up rounds.

Indeed Eric...I feel more certain now that we'll be looking at a 6-10 or 7-9 season..with San Diego yet again winning the AFC West..

I'm just trying to figure out exactly what Josh McDaniels is doing out there in Denver. It almost seems as though his mantra basically boils down to if you've got talent, he's going to ship you out of there. First Cutler, then Marshall, and now Sheffler? I just don't understand what the process is. I would think that, if you had a good, solid core of players like he had when he got there, that you would want to try to build around that rather than blow it up and start completely from scratch. I could understand blowing up a 1-15 or even a 5-11 roster, but blowing up a roster that was perennially in the playoff hunt just boggles my mind.

If this were a 007 movie I'd have to surmise that McD is a programmed, human doomsday machine designed to take out the good guys--the anti-Bond. Perhaps this nefarious plan was enabled by an alliance between a bitter Shanahan and an opportunistic Norv Turner?

San Diego must be laughing their a**es off at all this. They're going to be bored silly slapping around the other AFC West teams like cheap hookers. (Such a pleasant visual, isn't it?)

*uncontroled projectile liquids out of mouth while reading and drinking at the same time*
McD is like the Coach Obama of the NFL...young, inexperienced and, heck, he'll do just whatever the hell he wants to the Broncos, fans be damned. The Redskins will have a better team next year.
Jay Cutler for Brady Quinn??? Not a Cutler fan(rocket arm though) but he's a trillion times better than Brady Quinn.And...you'd think they'd at least aquire Ted Ginn from Miami in that trade...just for the sake of cosmetic reasons.
I'm not exactly thrilled with SD's offseason so far but I think they're still the crown jewels of the division for years to come.
