That list makes me want to puke. If that's seriously the list, then EON might as well castrate Bond in the next film too. All I'm saying is that these 4 are supposed to be the best, granted from a certain point of view, but the best of nearly everyone possible....

The fact that Cavill is younger than me and is possibly being considered creeps me out. I'm only 23. All of a sudden I feel old. And Ewan Stewart? WTF. This list is garbage.

The rumor mill never ceases to surprise. Never.

Although I could be wrong, I remain convinced Barbara and MG saw those posts and reconsidered Craig. They knew he was too risky a choice and was rejected. My point being it's too risky to announce Joe Smith as the new Bond without people having an idea who he is, what he looks like.

I don't think so, if EON were paying attention to our posts, Jackman or Owen, would be already signed for Bond 21...

It kinds of spooks me that this story is the main page, CBn never puts a scoop there if isn't some truth to it... I sometime believe ZenCat and the CBn staff knows something we don't know... :)

Of the list Goran Visnjic is the only guy who looks like he would deliver a Bond worthy of the last 20 films; a pro and a dangerous spy. A 22 like Cavill would change everything as a rookie and a nervous spy.

I hope we get a announcement this week!

Regards

This list HAS GOT TO BE A HOAX! Not only does Ewan Stewart look like a Santa Claus on Trimspa, but he is also 5'9" (courtesy of IMDB) That's right LESS THAN 6 FEET TALL!!! Unless he wears spiked stilletto heels on his missions or stands on a box, then it will snow on the hills of hell before he is even CONSIDERED for 007. The only people on that list who I would think have some bit of truth to them are Goran Visnjic and that Cavill guy.

Yes I mentioned his height a couple pages back as a reason not to believe this phony Daily Mirror story. :)

Goran Visnjic strikes me as a cut price Pierce Brosnan. If someone wanted to make a Bond spoof, say, Die Another Yesterday, they would cast Goran, foreign accent accentuated for maximum comedic effect. :)

If you study the face types you may see my point:

Not to say Visnjic is unattractive, he isn't. Just that Brosnan was a bit too good looking and makes it rather hard to find someone with a similar look - hence the notion Visnjic is a cut price Brosnan.

Well, that's not a very good picture of Visnjic. He looks sort of like Jack Davenport. The trouble is that Visnjic has a really bad haircut, which would have to be changed if he were to become Bond.

In any case, I doubt that he is under consideration to be Bond, since the Mirror article is probably a hoax.

I doubt the article is a hoax as Zencat confirmed Henry Cavill is a candidate.

Re - Visnjic,

Pierce was almost too handsome (the lucky chap :) ) so most actors can't compare to him looks-wise. It's almost certain the next Bond won't have looks quite like Brosnan or even the other Bonds. I'm not totally hung up on Bond's appearance but it seems the first thing you notice when you see a candidate is his looks. You say, "oh, he doesn't look quite right" or "he looks the part." It's a bit of a paradox. It's a superficial yet important consideration. I'm sure Daniel Craig would agree as it seems he lost the role because his looks weren't right enough. Pah - us humans - we're a vain, fickle lot. :)

I refuse to believe that Cavill is a serious candidate. He may have been tested at one point, but there's no way someone who looks so much like Frankie Muniz would be given the role of James Bond. If the Mirror article isn't a hoax, then it's a smokescreen.

Well it seems Bond fans don't want to accept:

Cavill as a candidate

Visnjic as a candidate

That leaves O'Lachlan and Ewan Stewart. And five will get you ten no-one's that enamoured with them!

So hmm... we seem to have a problem. No-one wants anyone to play Bond. End of franchise. Oh well, it happens. No big deal. Worse things happen at sea. Nothing to see here. Move along, people. :)

People don't completely buy this because it's the Daily Mirror, Stewart is a balding chubby 5'9" actor and even Cbn who give them credit for naming Cavill(and with this they may have gotten a lucky guess) says this could easily be a smokescreen.

I don't get this smokescreen stuff. What are Eon hiding and why?

They reveal names that are not viable in order to protect the real candidate or candidates. What's the point? Seems a bit daft. Why not just reveal the final candidates, let us geeky fans moan a little (lol) and then announce the final candidate.

Why have a smokescreen when you can just be direct? As my mother would say, "never take the long route when the direct one will do." Actually, she never said that but it sounded good. :)

Free press. Time to add suspense and get people interested.

It will make a nice little special feature on the Casino Royale 2-disc DVD.

So if these candidates are just names thrown out to keep the Bond bandwagon in full motion, which I accept makes some sort of devious sense, who are the real candidates?

James Purefoy, perhaps?
Julian McMahon?
Dustin Diamond?

Bingo. That's been my thinking all along. (Of course, I could be completely nuts!) My guess is that EON has someone in mind and they want to reveal him on their own terms - major press conference/announcement - and on their own timeframe. All of this speculation keeps Bond in the press and keeps people talking about it so when the announcement is finally made, people are more ready for it.

It almost makes me yearn for the days when Julian McMahon was the top choice. Maybe they should just put mothballs on the franchise for a while until they get the right actor. Or pay Brosnan the megabucks he's demanding.

Yeah but if they just announce the guy when they see fit they don't get any feedback.

Daniel Craig said Sony gave him the role. Most fans on the net expressed a dislike for Craig as Bond, and it looks as if Eon turned him down. Fan reaction must have played a part in their decision. It's possible the final name will be leaked to the press and then we'll have a chance to comment.

I think the reality is whoever is cast will get some criticism so Eon doesn't need to keep him secret. Just reveal him, get the criticism out of the way, and make the film - or, as I prefer, delay the film and find someone better. :)

Is it possible that some of these actors are testing for other roles in the film? I could see Visnjic playing Mathis or maybe even Le Chiffre. Prehaps they're testing these actors with, the as yet to be revealed, Bond #6.

Now you're on to something! Mark-Paul Gosselaar as Felix Leiter, Mario Lopez as the villain and Tiffani Thiessen as the Bond girl...

Yeah, I think it's time to fork over Pierce's paycheck.

Just heard from some friend over in America that Variety newspaper is claiming Ewan Stewart is set to sign for the role. According to my mate, who works in the film business, Stewart is the number one candidate.

Apparently, it's his hair that won him the role:

I'll believe that Ewan Stewart auditioned when I find out that there was some contest he won allowing him to do so!

If it was April Fool's Day, this would all make sense...but...

I applaud EON for going with a younger Bond, and I have nothing but respect for CBn Bond for hinting at this, but not blowing cover before the announcement.

What if it's true Ewan Stewart did screentest? Would it make you think Eon has lost the plot?

I think it's rather funny.

Can you imagine the making of Casino Royle dvd?

MG Wilson is asked about the candidates.

"We screentested many candidates. One of the most impressive was Ewan Stewart. We decided to go with him but unfortunately he became unavailable. It was a shame as he was the perfect candidate."

The only way it would work is if it was along the lines of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, as has been alluded to...show this kid and then show the real 007 after the backstory.

If that is indeed what happened with Craig, then you make a very good point. If EON brass decides not to open the choice up for fan feedback, it would lead me to believe that the next Bond is in fact one of the numerous popular candidates i.e. Jackman, Owen, Butler, or someone like that. If it is one of those guys, then EON has received ample feedback for the last year or so.
