[ibox]Read our main page story. There's some additional information in there that indicates there may be some truth to the Telegraph's report. Not the Dominic West part, just the "finals" part

"The list has been whittled down to four."

So says "a well-placed source" in The Telegraph

"Names on "Bond Shortlist" Revealed?

British tabloid claims to know the final four contenders

[/ibox]

========================
Original post:

This is today telegraph newspaper:

Screen test

It's been a long hard slog, but the race to don James Bond's well-worn dinner jacket has entered the final straight. There's been much to-ing and fro-ing from producer Barbara Broccoli over the past year but I hear that those on the shortlist have been summoned to Pinewood studios for final auditions.

"The list has been whittled down to four," says my well-placed source. "The auditions have reached their most important stage: how the actors fare in the sack. So stand-in Bond girls have been hired to act out select love scenes from past Bond films with the final four actors."

Spy's money is still on old Etonian Dominic West, whom I revealed back in February to be a contender.

When I call to check our man had made it to the final stages, a spokesman says: "I'm not allowed to say. I'll leave that one to your imagination."

As Bond said in Tomorrow Never Dies:

They'll print anything these days.

Dominic West already hinted that he's not playing the part so not sure if Spy's money is worth much. I'd rather use monopoly money than Spy's. :)

I think the telegraph was just saying that today that Dominic was in the final four, as a publicity stunt because the wire is cominig on soon on British tv

Take it with a grain of salt. Dominic West may be a decent actor but is by far the ugliest of the candidates for Bond #6 and would have no appeal at all.

Interesting article and very interesting Martin Campbell information. Isn't it a little early to be getting the announcement though - filming is still five to six months away.

This is great news that EON is at least moving closer to a final decison. Any specualtion on the final four??? McMahon has stated he has screen tested and so has Goran V. Who are the other two?? Everyone else has denied any involvement, although why would they jinx their chances. Very interesting.

I have a feeling that at least 3/4 of the "Final Four" we, the public, have never heard of.

If Goran is in the Final Four, I'll be shocked. Not that we'll probably ever find out who the Final Four were though.

EON is reportedly down to the final four candidates for Bond # 6. Who do you think are the final four?

Hey, think positive! Maybe we'll see the final four screen tests on the extra features section on the Casino Royale DVD in 2007.

They SHOULD be Owen, Craig, Jackman and Butler. But I have a feeling it will be E none of the above.

I think that we've at least heard of two of the actors who are in this supposed final four. With Gruffud's comments about being too young, that signals to me that EON is looking for the typical aged Bond (35-40). For some reason, I really do believe that Daniel Craig is in this final four, if in fact this final four does exist. Of the four, I think that Craig is there and is probably the most noteworthy of the four. I also would be shocked if two of the others aren't James Purefoy and Gerard Butler. Of course, all of this is just guesswork on my part. :)

I belive that the final four will look something like this:

Daniel Craig
Gerard Butler
James Purefoy
an unknown that nobody has yet mentioned

On a side note. I saw Purefoy in HBO's trailers for their new series ROME. He looks old and very ordinary looking so I doubt he is on their list.

Three people no one has ever heard of, and Gerard Butler. Dougray Scott, Dominic West and Daniel Craig are the most dreary candidates named, and yet they're still the most tipped. :)

I don't want to see Purefoy as Bond (I'd rather see the return of Brosnan, so that should say something about my opinion of Purefoy's acting ability), but I do think that he is being considered by EON since he was supposedly under consideration for GoldenEye. I'm still holding out hope that they'll select Daniel Craig for the role.

Craig, Owen, Butler and Jackman. If it is either one of those four, I can live with it. Interesting if it is an unknown EON wants to go that route. Worked for Connery, failed for Lazenby.

my guess would be
Pierce Brosnan
Tim Dalton
Roger Moore
George Lazenby
Sean Connery

those are the top contenders..

I want them to be

Clive Owen
James Purefoy
Gerard Butler
Hugh Jackman

but it would more likely be

Dominic West
James Purefoy
Daniel Craig
Goran Visjnic :)

Only Ioan Gruffudd, who was in London a few days ago for the Fantastic Four premiere. Julian McMahon was not at this premiere (currently shooting Nip/Tuck season 3).

Clive Owen is currently filming 'The Inside Man' in NYC.

Daniel Craig is currently filming the Spielberg Munich olympics movie in Hungary/Malta.
