After all the reports, it's a complete boggle. Which reports had grains of truth? Which were total bs? Dunno.
I'd think there's an unknown in the mix, maybe more than one.
I have my preferences, but I'm keeping my powder dry. Don't want to jinx one of my faves. Want to guard against disappointment. Ultimately, I'm feeling trusting of Eon, Sony, Campbell, whoever that other lass was who's supposed to be in on it. [says prayer]

Sean Connery
Roger Moore
George Lazenby
and Timothy Dalton.
It can't be Pierce Brosnan because he was told to go away and get a proper job.

Does this mean they are under consideration and on the list, too?

I think his voice portrayal of the whiny giraffe in "Madagascar" was what tipped the part in his favor.

Right age
Right track record
Right stage in his career
Fits profile having been previous contender and known to Eon
Wants to do it (listen to "A Knight's Tale" commentary where Paul Bettany lobbies hard!)
Right-ish look - more rugged than Pierce - will ladies dig?
Goran must have been interviewed for the villain's role - he'd make a good Le Chiffre.

Probable final Four

McMahon
Somebody no one knows...
I'll be very happy with Butler or Purefoy as 007, and could live with McMahon, but please no Dominic West or Gruffud! I like them as actors, and enjoyed their acting in the movies I've seen, but in my humble opinion they just don't look the part!
Craig HAS to be Le Chiffre
Regards.

Shatner as Bond. James Spader as Le Chiffre.
In related news, Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong were also recently sighted in London with Don Johnson.
Does this mean they are under consideration and on the list, too?
It will be McMahon.
Ed McMahon

If it's down to 4 people and all [or most] of the rumours are crap then it's mostly likely that these 4 "finalist" are unknowns...

| While the Telegraph's record on Casino Royale news has been somewhat spotty, CBn has reason to believe there may be some truth to this report. CBn has learned that director Martin Campbell -- who has been busy test screening and fine tuning The Legend of Zorro in California -- jetted off to London late last week for a two week stay. |
...see, we are trying to break through all the rumours that are out there and give you some truths. CBn is not in the habit of reporting rumours on our main page unless there's something that stands out as far as truth goes.

Oh I certainly know what you mean about being burned out... but look out main page story (and others for that mater) there are some facts in it which are an encouragement. This one for example, Martin Campbell IS in London right now...

Yes, that bit is very encouraging. I got a bit of a thrill reading that!

I have a feeling that at least 3/4 of the "Final Four" we, the public, have never heard of.
Well, if it's a "Final Four" then that's probably the case. Not too likely to have, say, Clive Owen in a final four. If he wanted it he'd (presumably) be a walk-in, no "Final Four" required.

Ditto - felt like there's finally some hint of progress. If they are screening the final guys now at Pinewood (now, where's a good Bond Anorak, ready to sacrifice his life lying outside Pinewood with a telescopic paparazzi camera snapping pics of everyone entering and exiting when you need one?) then at least we have some idea at what stage they are at. There could be a decision within the next month and an announcement at some undefined point in the future.... One thing is sure, when that announcement comes my heart will skip a beat.
PS - I have no idea who those final four are, barely even have a preference. I'm pretty sure EON will make a good choice (they haven't done too bad a job so far, in my opinion). Good work CBn on giving us something a bit original!
