Have been delving into the Godfather Blu Ray boxset, haven't watched the films properly yet just flicked through, I watched the Copolla restoration box set I sold recently last summer so it's pretty fresh in my mind but are looking forward to this from what I can remember quite different looking version.
When I say different the looks of the blu ray prints as opposed to the standard DVD versions, I see quite a different looking film. It appears there has been some criticism of the way these have been presented in the format. It has been said that blu ray isn't just an excuse to clean the films up and make them look like brand new.
In the case of the restoration here it seems they tried to make the film look as much like the films did on the big screen when it was first released in the 70's. It was unusual also witnessing the anarmorphic version with the whole screen been taken up with the film, something standard DVD version didn't, yes the film does look its age but to change the look for sake of making it look like it's brand new would defeat the object of the restoration.
Gordon Willis's cinematograph is as much a character as the actors, it may seem really strange to some the way he uses that dark and the shadowing but it's what marks the Godfather 1 & 2 out as such individual and recognisable films and this new restoration has done that proud. I won't lie when I first put it on to browse through I was a little shocked but I advise anyone feeling the same way should probably watch the extra on the supplements disc called Emulsional Rescue Restoring the Godafather and well for at least me, it made me appreciate and more than warm to the look of the film.
The sequence where Micheal shoots Solozo & McClusky you actually see the twitching in Pacino's face, what might have seemed before as quite an emotionless moment for Al now shows range of emotions clearly and a demonstration of the sheer quality that Pacino gives to the complex character of Michael Coreleone. This documentary also shows how much this new print as lovingly been bought back to life and Copolla himself says he can't believe how beautiful it looked, it certainly does and I whole heartedly recommend the purchase of this outstanding package.

I just bought Dodgeball on DVD. I also almost bought the Wayne's World set, but elected to get MC5's Kick Out The Jams instead.

I got Saw 5 today, which nicely brings my Saw collection bang up to date. I still haven't actually seen Saw 5, so I'm really looking forward to watching it.
I hadn't seen it properly to a few months ago as well. It's a great movie, much better than the fourth.

Picked up The Trial of a Time Lord box set and Survival at the mall yesterday morning. Probably going to marathon all of my classic Doctor Who DVDs tonight, seeing as I go back to school tomorrow and shan't have the time for such things until Thanksgiving.
Do you not watch films or TV during school months? That's a pretty tough regime; one I don't think I'd have been able to cope with!

I do, but I have less time to during the school week, once school gets into swing. And I really don't have the time to marathon something like this until Sat/Sun/breaks. And really I won't even be able to fit all of my Doctor Who DVDs today. Probably get through a good deal, but I would've needed to start Saturday or so if I wanted to get through them all.
