And people thought it was hard to replace Connery as Bond? We had a Young Indy TV series and that was enough. Give us a final Ford to complete the thing and end it there.

Harrison as Indy, or no Indy at all. That's my view. Indy isn't, like Bond, stuck at a certain (albeit very flexible) age. He can be old.

Given how much grief Roger Moore was given about his age in 1985's A VIEW TO A KILL, do we really want to see a Grandpa Jones (I know a lot of peopel referred to RM as Grandpa Bond) running around in another adventure? :)

I'm not worrying at all about Harrison Ford's age (hey, it gives those ILM guys a REAL challenge!); what REALLY makes my stomach ache is George Lucas' involvement with the screenplay!

Does mankind learn nothing? You'd think that after Episodes I- III, no producer in his right mind would set Lucas loose without supervision and a couple of men in white clothes within his grasp.

One actor doesn't make the movie. Ford, while older, can still do it, but they'd have to be extra careful about how good the scenery, the sets, the dialogue, and the action scenes are. The better and more planned out those are, the better it makes Ford look.

It appears Sean Connery will come back for this one after all. Laura Dutta has been "announced" for this one too, and will have a few scenes with Harrison Ford.

What happened to those god awful rumours that Indiana Jones was going to be 14 in the movie?

Looks like those Laura Dutta rumors, are only rumors. From theraider.net...

PR Leap, a free press release distribution site, announced 2 days ago that a model named Laura Dutta has officially landed a role in Indiana Jones IV. Here's the original press release:

It is official! Model Laura Dutta represented by ASH Models has landed a role in Indiana Jones 4. The movie is the 4th sequel in the Indiana Jones franchise and will cast Harrison Ford and Sean Connery. Indiana Jones 4 is to be directed by Steven Spielberg.

Though Miss Dutta has a three month shooting schedule, her agents from ASH Models has confirmed that she will fly to Paris during shooting to do Fashion Week.
What roll she will be playing is unknown.

Whatever the agents of Laura Dutta claim, this news is NOT official! I have contacted Lucasfilm about this and their response was "This is only a rumor and there is no new news at the moment on the movie."

It doesn't really matter who is in Indiana Jones 4, as long as Harrison Ford is Indy, that's how I look at it. And the whole "young Indy" rumor(s) are crap. The movie was originally to take place in the early Fifties, but the time frame has been pushed back a few years, so there wiil be no young Indy. However, I cannot recall who said it, but someone said that at the end of Indy 4, a person will be ready to take the mantle of Henry "Indiana" Jones, Sr. Now I could live with that.

the latest "rumour" is:

"'Indiana Jones will have to deal with his greatest fears in the upcoming fourth adventure in the series.

When Indys son is recruited by an english gentleman to go in search of an artifact of immense power hidden deep in the Amazon, Indys father suspects something is not right.

Soon he stumbles upon a terrifying plot by a powerful secret society hell bent on recovering an ancient power.

teamed once again with his father Henry (Sean Connery) and the English Gentlemans Daughter Sabrina they head out to the amazon where both parties discover an ancient civilisation still existing.

But will Indy be able to stop the secret society from harnessing the Mayan's Powers and taking over the world. and can Sabrina be trusted?

I sometimes feel like the only one who wants to see an Indy 4. I guess I just want the chance to see one in a theatre, even if it is garbage.

Well, Lucas announced his intention to have INDY 4 released in 2007 on MTV today (Harrison Ford announced a few days earlier that he was given Spielberg and Lucas a 2-year period to make it happen or he wouldn't do it), so you may get your wish.

I hope we get an outstanding sequel that really has some magic to it. I want this will be one of those great sequels, full of fresh ideas. I'm just skeptical that it'll turn out that way.

While I realise this may seem "a bit rich" coming from someone who's greatly looking forward to ROCKY BALBOA (as well as the 263rd Bond film), I reckon that they shouldn't go ahead with INDIANA JONES 4 unless they have the most staggeringly brilliant and inventive screenplay in cinema history, packed with some truly spectacular ideas (and I doubt they have). It'd be an embarrassment.

But getting Ford to return as Jack Ryan might be a good move.

I'm not looking forward to Indy4 as much as I am Rocky6 or CR. Sure, I love the 3 Indy films that are already out. Hell, I saw Temple of Doom in the cinema at just 4/5 years old, and later on The Last Crusade when I was not much older.

19 years is too large a gap though! Stallone will probably get away with it in Rocky6 because that isn't as action-orientated as what a good Indy film should be. Harrison Ford is just too old now. I would have thought that the turn of the Millennium would have been the cut off point for any decent 4th Indy film to be made.

I hated Indy 3 and I enjoyed the hell outa "Temple" but it really falls apart over time(that stupid kid, paternal Indy crap, Willie Scott). Raiders was a masterpiece. They should have just left it alone...and now Indy 4 after all these years? Groan.

Well with Ford saying they either get the film shot in the next two years or never do it, and Lucas claiming the film will be released in 2007, I think we're seeing INDY IV actually on the horizon (unforunately, I might add).

Apart from money I don't see why they want to come back and do a final film. What will it be called - The VERY Last Crusade?

How can a pensioner run around climbing and fighting?

Ford will take nothing but a beating about his age. NO critic of the film will leave out his age. Rather like the new King Kong, was there any critics who didn't mention it's stupidly long running time?

Might things be finally falling into place?"

It sure sounds like it. However, I have a feeling that as soon as that final piece is about to be placed on top, someone's gonna pull a piece out of the bottom.

Harrison can still do one more and then i'd be fine with replacing him after. Tarl--Indy 3 was excellent. Temple was the one that sucked.
