As for me I love this show.
I cannot say how many times I've seen each episode, but let's say most of my region 2 DVD's have signs of wear-and-tear.

Roger Moore and Tony Curtis are a perfect concoction of toughness, comedy and clever and witty one liners.
The whole production have a lushness about them, and we get to see some fantastic and dramatic scenery.
Everyone who's a fan of television nostalgia should get this series, turn off the lights, and watch every episode.

Cheers,
Judge Fulton.

I bought both box sets of the Persuaders last month, it's my favourite tv show.
The first episode "overture" is my favourite, I just love how Danny and Brett meet.
ITC made quite a few excellent tv series in the 60's and 70's
I've bought a few this year. So far I have in my collection
The Persuaders
Department S
Return of the Saint
The Prisoner
The Saint vol 1 and 2
I'm now eagerly awaiting Jason King, UFO and The Champions.

The show seems be the bridge between the 1960s "Spy Craze" and the urban detective shows that dominated the 1970s. It has a 1960s feel to it, yet it's sort of seventies, too. A very strange time--there's a lot of that strangeness in DAF, too.
I have to say that there's a lot about this show that immediately draws me in. The great theme by John Barry, the "Curtis & Moore" credits-- we don't even need to know the first names, because both men were already icons of cool. Love the wonderfully witty banter between Moore and Curtis, the fashions(!) and the big-budget locations.

A & E have done splendidly with the releases so far on those DVD sets. The Prisoner, The Saint, The Persuaders!, and many others.

If you watch the pilot episode when Judge Fulton recruits Brett and Danny, he says in a roundabout way they should use their talents for helping people, which is to say they will be persuading situations to go the right way. Judge Fulton is the ultimate persuader, really.Do any of you know why the show is called The Persuaders!? Sinclair and Wilde don't really go around persuading people...
Great show, and one of my favorite gifts last Christmas was the DVD set. I had all but 2 episodes on tape for many years.
Looking back now, doesn't it seem amazing this show was considered a failure when it didn't do big ratings numbers in the U.S.?

It was beaten in the ratings by the sixth season of "Mission: Impossible", which was the year that show switched from tackling foreign dictators to dealing with "The Syndicate." M:I was an institution and it regularly beat "The Persuaders!" on Saturday nights. Both shows were on at 10:00pm in the U.S.

Did you guys know that Deborah Moore was in the episode, "The Long Goodbye"?
Yes, she had a small role in it. Just a wink I think from Roger. His son Geoffrey did appear a bit later in "Sherlock Holmes in New York".
Wonderful show and perfect chemestry between Roger and T. Curtis...
If I had to choose, I would place "The Persuaders" even before James Bond.

OK, he couldn't play 'Hamlet', but is he supposed to be that hansom.
I love Sean as James Bond. I love Roger as James Bond, but I love Roger as Roger Moore.

Cheers,
Ian

Lois Maxwell Moneypenny
Valerie Leon TSWLM, NSNA
Anouska Hempel OHMSS
Madeline Smith LALD
Catherina von schell OHMSS
I think George Baker who played Sir Hilary Bray also appeared in an episode.
I would have loved to have seen the show continue but I guess it's cancellation was a blessing because if it continued we wouldn't have seen Moore as Bond.

After watching Roger Moore in "The Man Who Haunted Himself", and the watching how good he is in "The Persuaders", you can really see HE IS a good actor.

I agree, I love everything Moore has been in, he's a fantastic actor.
I still haven't seen Crossplot though, i've been wanting to see it for awhile now but it's not available on video or DVD here in Australia. Hopefully fingers crossed it will get released soon.

I too am waiting for 'Crossplot' to be released on DVD.
I can remember recording it when it was on television some 12 years ago, and I've almost warn the tape out.

Here's the IMDb's rather rude 'crit' in 'Crossplot'.
If it's released over here first, I may send you a copy.

Cheers Mate,
Ian

I really hope they make a The Persuaders! movie or television movie. They made The Saint (1997) and The Avengers (1998) so hopefully The Persuaders! gets similar treatment.
I take the opposite side and say no, because I didn't find those films (and I've seen that many others seem to agree) to be much of a better continuation of the famed series. I'd be fine with the series just staying as it is, a classic TV show. No need to make a film, unless they really knew they could make an enjoyable and well put together.

Oh, and let's also remember the abomination that was the "Mod Squad" movie.
and "Wild, Wild West" etc.

Anybody fancy the odds of success as a big screen version with Tom Cruise and Hugh Grant? Must be a few bucks in that, Hollywood!!!

CROSSPLOT will be released here in Region One by MGM in early 2005 as part of an action adventure themed wave of releases - yay for region free players.

I think that Roger Moore's best acting performance was opposite Lee Marvin in SHOUT AT THE DEVIL.

Hi Ian,
Your lucky to have it on tape. I have foxtel and every month i check the guide to see if it's playing but so far no luck. Last month I taped The Fiction Makers off Movie Greats, I wasn't really desperate for that one because Umbrella is releasing the final 3 boxsets of The Saint next year. I'm looking forward to getting the colour Episodes.
Hmm perhaps Umbrella Entertainment will eventually release Crossplot, they've already released alot of rare cult movies.

Damn! I don't have a region free player. Maybe i should get mine converted

With what i've seen i still think that Moore's best acting performance is in The Persuaders! The role of Lord Brett Sinclair is perfect for him even more so than Bond and Templar.
