Ah Ha! The box art! Looks like that have a "BondGirl-eque" silhouette there.

Looks exceptionally cheap, that.

I agree. Looks like the kind of dreadful old Alistair McWilbur Smith's DEATH PLANE straight-to-video dreck he used to do.

But having seen THE MATADOR, I'll remind y'all of an old saw: don't judge a book (DVD) by its cover.

It's the best film I've seen at the cinema this year, and easily Brosnan's best performance. I'll certainly be adding it to my DVD collection (wonder why it's taken so long to be released, though).

GOLDENEYE, TOMORROW NEVER DIES, THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH, DIE ANOTHER DAY and THE MATADOR - that's all the Brosnan you need on DVD. I doubt we'll agree on that, though, Athena. :D

Not that I'm defending the box art, but its the kind of imagery that will make people more likely to pick it up at Blockbuster - Brosnan with a gun, a Bond girl-like silhouette, flames in the background, a general Bondian vibe to the whole thing.

I know I'm miss Brosnan fan who "can't find fault" in the man. But... in all seriousness, The Matador was one of, if not the best, film I saw in the theater last year (i saw it last year). Has it really been that long? I think since the release dates where all over the place the DVD release could have seemed delayed depending on where one lives.

GOLDENEYE, TOMORROW NEVER DIES, THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH, DIE ANOTHER DAY and THE MATADOR - that's all the Brosnan you need on DVD. I doubt we'll agree on that, though, Athena. :D

What about The Thomas Crown Affair? I'm sure you just forgot about that one. :D I started a thread listing all the Brosnan DVDs out there... I own them all... muahahaha. So ya... 5 Brosnan DVDs is NOT enough. :D

It's true it has that Brosnan Spy vibe to it and that will draw someone to pick it up in Blockbuster (who uses blockbuster anymore when there's NETFLIX!). But the "flame" girl just doesn't even make sense if you've seen the film, me thinks. [censored]

If pushed to add a sixth Brosnan effort, it'd definitely be THE LONG GOOD FRIDAY - excellent film. I do own THOMAS CROWN, but I bought it chiefly because I'm a fan of John McTiernan (although the man's made so many bad movies I do sometimes wonder exactly why I'm a fan). Might possibly pick up THE TAILOR OF PANAMA at some point if I see it in a bargain bin. Other than which, I don't think the Brosmeister, bless 'im, has really made many films of note. But judging by THE MATADOR, his best stuff's still to come. :(

What say you? Loomis, methinks that you need to add The Fourth Protocal, The Nephew, abd Mister Johnson to this list. :D

What, no Lawnmower Man or Mrs. Doubtfire, the latter of in which Brozzy gets a lime lobbed at his noggin? For shame.

Anyway, I'll definitely buy this one. The only thing I didn't like about it was the fact that I had to see it as a burned copy on my friend's laptop - wasn't willing to make a 60-plus minute drive to see a 90 minute movie, which is the only way I could see it in theatres. And the fact that it took so damn long to come out on DVD.

Agree with the cover art, though. Hideous stuff there. Seems to be the norm lately for very good films that had a small theatrical release, such as the equally superb The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.

Bump...so its out on DVD then. Anyone get it? I see there's a Brosnan/Kinnear/Shepherd commentary track, might be good. Best Buy is selling it for $14.99 all this week if anyone's interested.

Saw it recently and loved it, and loved Pierce's performance. The guy really has some acting chops. It made me sad thinking that he really never got a shot to show his range as Bond and never will.

I would have loved to have seen him in the type of film they're making with CR. I think he really could have done a good job and would have put all this pretty boy criticism to rest. Craig is making the movie that Pierce fought so hard to make. What a shame...

Still, even the original poster does not do justice to the film. Another reason why the poor marketing ruined its box office potential. Unfortunately, it fell in the crack after Miramax was reorganized and the Weinsteins (who were behind this one) left.

bought "the matador" the day it came out ... and finally saw it yesterday. a perfect lazy afternoon film. great performances by brosnan and kinnear. brosnan stretched in this one ... going from manically hyper to tragically depressed in mere moments. he really pulled off his breakdown scenes.

i've got the videotape of "the fourth protocol", but to date there doesn't seem to be a dvd version. now THAT is the film which convinced me brosnan could be an excellent bond. he was icy cold and extremely ruthless, especially in the scene where he beds joanna cassidy and then, without a flicker of emotion, kills her in cold blood on orders from moscow.

definitely add that one to your brosnan collection.
