Yes, but here's how zencat introduces it: "Okay, this is it. This is THE poll. Who is your favorite James Bond? I'm not asking who is the BEST Bond mind you, but who is your FAVORITE."Or we could just look at this poll.
Brix wants a poll to decide "Who Was The Best James Bond?". Wouldn't mind one myself, actually.

Mind you, I suppose the result would be a foregone conclusion: Connery way ahead of everyone else. Similarly, I doubt that there's ever been a poll of "Who Was The Best James Bond Novelist?" that didn't finish with Fleming running away with it.

Connery a close 2nd-mainly he got bored of the role to early.
Brosnan is in my 3rd spot, does a great job of handling Connery and Moore's persona.
Lazenby is #4 because he made Bond look belivable trying to copy Connery and of course OHMSS made more money to the series than both of Daltons weak Bond films.
Dalton- worst Bond of all time because he was not playing James Bond, he was playing a grumpy man weilding a Walther and was never cool. Could not make the audience belive he could bed a woman. Should have sticked to the cinematic Bond.

Not entirely.Connery was the best. Whether or not you think he was, he was the best. Case closed.
Roger Moore was the very best Bond, and also my favorite. A very strong debate could develop I'm guessing. Connery was a fantastic Bond, he played the role well, but I think in some ways, Moore was even better. Reminded me quite a bit of the original Bond of the books.

Connery as 007 - Perhaps the most perfect casting decision in movie history. Loved by everyone all over the world and admired by those who followed in his footsteps.
Whenever you see a parody or comedy sketch about Bond, whether its in a TV show or somewhere else, who do they always imitate? Answer: Sean Connery.

HOW is that the truth, YOLT?I have to watch more to exactly say who is the best, but I can say... maybe Sean Connery. But there is one truth: Maybe not Sean Connerys itself but his films and his era will always be the best.

Connery being the best Bond, and that's the truth, is not that simple. The 60s the era of Connery are the golden years of Bond. Its the truth. Its just that easy Qwerty.

I don't agree, obvious we both disagree, but I don't want to continue a needless arguement so we'll just leave it at that.

Iam not saying that Connery is the best. But his era, his period and his films are the best. Its the reality.Connery being the best Bond, and that's the truth, is not that simple.

I am not saying that Connery is the best Bond. But the 60s are the golden years of Bond. I am not bashing Moore either. He is a great Bond. But in the 60s everybody was copying Bond. ?T was the time of spy-mania. In the 70s and mainly on Bond copied other films. Just look at MR. Isnt it easy Qwerty. From a box office perpective, as said in the other thread, for a film such as Thunderball, yes. But only on that perspective.

I believe Zencat recently put up a huge article how Bond's Moonraker didn't copy.I am not saying that Connery is the best Bond. But the 60s are the golden years of Bond. I just cannot always see it that way. "He made the series popular." I'm not bashing this in any way, shape, or form, but since he was the very first Bond, he, and others, such as Moore, Brosnan made the series popular as well. (Opinions of course, I know many will disagree on some of those points.)Common knowledge is that Connery is the best and of course everyone will say that becuase he is the original and he made the series popular.

We'll never know, but I'm not sure about this. How it would have turned out if Moore started. The othere's helped keep it popular but if it wasn't for connery, the series may have just lasted 2-3 films.

I know that minorities claim Moore, Dalton, or Brosnan (and in rare cases, Lazenby), but none really match up to the star quality or coolness that Connery has. Moore was likeable and charming, but he wasn't someone to be afraid of (and really wasn't playing the Bond character). Dalton was deadly, but wasn't as cool. Brosnan... well Brosnan's a mix and match of Connery, Moore, and Dalton with some PC thrown in, and Connery is just a better performer (just compare their line delivery).
And then there's just the question of who James Bond is. I know people claim that there really isn't a definition of what Bond is supposed to be. Well, I really think there is. It's called Fleming's Bond. Anything else isn't James Bond - it's a character sharing his name. Only 3 performers really played something resembling Fleming's James Bond, and they were Connery, Lazenby, and Dalton.
And I'm not claiming that it's wrong to diverge from Fleming - it's certainly not. Obviously, Connery, Lazenby, and Dalton aren't Fleming's Bond lifted directly from the page. They are Connery's Bond, Lazenby's Bond, and Dalton's Bond. But they share the majority of their characteristics with the original, and that's what counts in my eyes. Moore is so far removed from what Fleming's Bond is that I can't call him the best.
Roger Moore played Bond with a real sense of charm that is instantly loveable (and he's quite the gentleman). That's precisely the problem though - Bond shouldn't be that instantly likeable.
Some would say he was right for the time - but just because he helped the series survive doesn't mean that the performance was the best Bond either. My best Bond (the "best" Bond is really a matter of opinion) might've flopped. The best Bond for me would be Fleming's Bond on screen. I would've much rather had that than any of the films beyond, and possibly including, Connery's era. Had they gone in that direction, the series might have flopped. But I would've been happy.
So all in all, the real debate, I think, comes down to which set of characteristics you like in your James Bond. I like Fleming's Bond. I think he's great. Some people will prefer the likeable nice guy or emotional modern man to Fleming's coldhearted bastard. Me, well I'll take the coldhearted bastard any day.

Well how do you define "fitting the role" then? You have to start with a definition of what the role entails before you can go making comments about who's the best.Roger Moore fit the role perfectly through both acting and persona, and stared in the most Bond films than anyone else. He IS bond. There is none other.
