There is always a lot of discussion about alternative actors to play 007, but I don't see any recent threads dedicated specifically to who might have made a good Bond girl. Here are a few of my choices:

60s
Raquel Welch & Ann-Margret - both high energy, gorgeous women who could hold their own opposite Connery. They also would have brought some name value here in the States to the leading lady position, something not really present until Diana Rigg in OHMSS.
Veronica Carlson - probably Hammer's most stunning starlet.

70s
Jaclyn Smith - the right combination of class and sex appeal.
Mary Tamm - ditto.
Ingrid Pitt - sexy and great "cameo" appeal.

80s
Rachel Ward - similar to Jaclyn Smith and Mary Tamm.
Louise Jameson - sexy and tough, and a very gifted actress.
Nicola Bryant - built like the proverbial... well, not unattractive, and a decent actress when allowed to speak with her real accent.
Sybil Danning - not in a major role, but as a vampish minor baddie she would have been great.

I haven't really come up with too many recent names, but I'll think of a few.

Funny you mention those two. Miss Welch was a contender for the roles of Domino in Thunderball and Tiffany in Diamonds Are Forever but Guy Hamilton rejected her saying "she was too much animal" and "would have no chemistry with Connery". A-M played a Bond girl of sorts in the Dean Martin-Matt Helm spoof Murderer's Row

70s
Jaclyn Smith - the right combination of class and sex appeal.

My favorite Charlie's Angel. She would have made a great Holly in Moonraker. Certainly a better Charlie's Angel turned Bond girl than Tanya Roberts ever was.

80s
Rachel Ward - similar to Jaclyn Smith and Mary Tamm.

You're reading my mind, yolt13! I think Miss Ward would have an excellent Vesper Lynd opposite Timothy Dalton's Bond if he had gotten the chance to make Casino Royale back then. She absolutely rocks in Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid.

Sharon Stone would have made a good Bond girl. She has the right amount of [censored]-appeal for me.

Jaclyn Smith did a double-take on me walking thru Houston's Hobby airport (she's from Houston). The other Angel, Kate Jackson, I met in '77 for a brief minute.

Cubby wanted to cast Brigitte Bardot in OHMSS, but she was not available to do the film at that time. Ironically, Bardot was making the film Shalako (1968) with none other than Sir Sean Connery. This one was a Western - try and imagine Connery and Bardot making something like that. And also, GF's Honor Blackman was also in this film as well. With the exception of Blazing Saddles, I am not very familiar with Western films and TV shows such as Gunsmoke and Have Gun, Will Travel. So, has anyone else on this forum seen Shalako?

I saw Shalako a number of years ago. I remember is was good Europeans against bad Indians. I think Sean was leading a bunch of Euro- hunters on a buffalo hunt way out west when they ran into trouble with the locals. I also think they may have hid out in a fort.

I like the idea of Veronica Carlson. Wow.

Current actoresses, let's see, there are so many.
Sarah Michelle Geller
Kristen Bell
Kim Poirier
Stefanie van Pfetten
Katharine Isabelle
I'll think of some more I'm sure.

And I'll do the one after that (Bond 23)... that will save everybody a lot of time from casting! :cooltongue:

As much as I think that Nicole Kidman and Liv Tyler could make very very classy Bond girls, I think they're both too high-profile to be cast for it and can't imagine it to work either as much as I'd want to see them in such a role.

I've seen it. Not great but an interesting Euro-Western. A lot of European Westerns were made in the 1960s and not just the Sergio Leone-Spaghetti ones. There was a series of German Westerns filmed in Yugoslavia of all places. Anyway, Shalako does reunite Connery with Honor Blackman. In fact a lot of Bond veterans worked on the film causing one critic called it "Bond in Buckskin!". Also reunited Jack Hawkins and Stephen Boyd from Ben-Hur. Makes one wonder how On Her Majesty's Secret Service might've turned out if the original choices for Bond and Tracy(i.e., Connery and Miss Bardot) had played those roles instead.

Miss Pfeiffer would have been an excellent Bond girl. I've fantasized about Michelle Pfeiffer playing Lavender Peacock in a film version of John Gardner's Licence Renewed made about 1982 with Brosnan as Bond, James Mason as Sir Anton Murik and Faye Dunaway as Mary Jane Mashkin. I wish I had the ability to make a fantasy poster of it.

According to John Glen's autobiography 'For My Eyes Only': Sharon Stone was initially approached for the female lead in LTK, unfortunately a bit too early in the process according to Glen.

I would have liked to have seen Erin Gray, from Silver Spoons, as Stacey Sutton. I think she would have made a more convincing geologist than Tonya Roberts. Tonya was nice to look at, but that voice...maybe they should have just dubbed her. Also, I would have liked to have seen Elizabeth Shue as Dr. Christmas Jones. She already has nuclear physicist experience from The Saint.

Definitely Catherine Deneuve. If you ever see her in a film called 'Belle de Jour' made around 1967, you'll see how great she would have been as a Bond girl in the 60's (70' and up to mid 80's too).

I think there are very few actresses who I would have liked better as Pam Bouvier, and a young Sharon Stone might be one of them.

Anyway, after the Vesper casting search, I've developed a certain fondness for Rose Byrne, and part of me continues to wonder how she would have been in the role. There's still plenty of time for her to be a Bond girl, though, and I'd definitely be interested in seeing her alongside Craig, perhaps as a Gala Brand type.

I think Sharon would have been exactly right, for a Bond girl in the Brosnan era. She would be a brilliant femme fetal but only if she kept her beaver hidden (ala Basic Instint) :cooltongue:

another actress i would love to see as a Bond girl in the Brosnan era is Jessica Biel as a replacement for Christmas Jones

and i would love to see Rose Byrne as a future Bond girl

Here's a clip of the gorgeous Miss Ward from one of my all time favorite spoofs, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid(1982) with Steve Martin-

Wouldn't she have made an ideal Vesper Lynd(opposite Timothy Dalton's Bond, that is) if CR had been made in the 1980s?
