I'm reading Casino Royale at the moment - I usually see Connery, but I see Barry Nelson for the baccarat scenes. David Hedison is Leiter, Peter Lorre is Le Chiffre, and Eva Green is Vesper.

Odd that two out of the three Vespers we've seen on screen didn't even attempt to match her physical description from the book!

It's strange, but when I read the Bond I see changes throughout the book. Some chapters I see Craig, others I see Dalton, and some I see Connery. Just depends on what the chapter is about and who I can see acting it out. :)

I've seen alot of other CBn members post the same as that. It seems to be pretty common, I guess.

The Fleming cover of Moonraker, i think has a guy(James Bond) who looks exactly like Daniel....The Bond description looks more like Daniel(substracting the blond hair of course)...Bond isnt suppose to be very charming and cool in the novel...It could also look like Dalton...

I'm not trying to stir up trouble, but I think those who picture actual Bond actors in the novels (especially the ones that see actors in their respective films) lack a bit of imagination.

My Bond is pretty damn original to me, though if I had to put a face on him he'd look a bit like Gregory Peck.

Usually, I try to envision the sketch that was commissioned by Fleming for the comic stip adaptations (see James Bond Wikipedia article).
Although since I was introduced to the films before the literature, I end up seeing the bond from the book's respective film. I know that sounds prettty lame. :)

Actually, I see something more similar to Fleming's own interpretation of the character:

http://en.wikipedia....7impression.jpg

His hair is different, but I like the poise and age of Fleming's authorized sketch.. I do occassionally see Connery, but generally I have a unique Bond in my head..

This probably sounds sad but I see John McLusky's Bond from the Daily Express strips...

Not really, I re-read Casino Royale after reading the Titan prints of the Bond comics (great comics, by the way) and I ended up seeing Yaroslav Horak's interpretation of Bond.

When I picture Bond, he invariably starts to resemble Gregory Peck.

(After all, didn't Tania say he looked like an American film star?)

Before I read the novels, I had always assumed I would see the actor from the book's respective film. But, having read every Fleming novel, that wasn't at all the case. I have my own vision of Fleming's Bond, which is hard to describe. I guess it's kinda McLusky's Bond (from the OHMSS strip) with Dalton's personality. Speaking of which, I was saddened to learn that McLusky died on September 5, 2006. He contributed greatly to the Bond universe, and will be deeply missed.

This is one the continually fascinating questions to me personally, since I don't have a conistent "actor" playing Bond as I read. He switches around; one actor might dominate one book, but others will sneak in. Often I see the actor whom I most recently saw in a movie, other times the visualization seems random. Frequently, I have a "personal" Bond image who isn't any of the actors, but an amalgamation of parts of them into what I consider a perfect Bond. He looks quite a bit like some of the sketches made of Bond, and has a lot of Dalton's "sharp" and dark features.

For the recent books I read, it broke down like this:

Doctor No: Predominantly Connery, and this is because the movie and the book are quite similar.

Zero Minus Ten: Brosnan and Dalton--the more recent vintage novels usually get those two in my head.

Casino Royale: The 'Amalgam' Bond, Dalton and...the big surprise... Clive Owen!

You Only Live Twice: A younger Sean Connery than the one in the movie, some 'Amalgam'

Scorpius: Dalton and Moore.

Brokenclaw: Mostly Brosnan, some Dalton

I picture Connery while reading Dr. No, FRWL, especially Goldfinger, and Thunderball. Dalton in the LTK moments of Live and Let Die.

The rest, and in the continuation novels, I don't picture any actor.

I did picture Clive Owen when I read Casino Royale a couple years ago, because I was purposefully trying to imagine him as Bond. Next time I read it (before the movie comes out) I'll be picturing Daniel Craig.

I don't see any of the actors. The Bond i see looks mostly like Daniel Craig, though, minus the blonde hair and the more round nose.

Actually, the Ian Fleming comissioned drawing (look to the left) is probably the most like what I picture Bond as in my head.

When I see an actor with Fleming's books it's usually Sean or Tim but for the most part it's a man that looks like the one next to my Sean avatar with a voice almost identical to Craig's.

I see Connery when I read Fleming's novels. When I read Benson I usually see Brosnan, but often I revert to Connery. I just can't see my own Bond. I figure I grew up watching Brosnan, but Connery is classic, and that's why I do it. But... who knows why I do it.

For me, it's some combination of Ian Fleming's commissioned drawing and John McLusky's comic strip version. Even though I saw the films first, I have my own idea of Bond. As for what he sounds like, he sorta sounds like Lazenby in my head. For some reason, I can't imagine him sounding like Connery. Or, more accurately, I can't imagine Connery's voice getting mildly giddy over the wording in his resignation, in the novel of On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

I basically see a man who looks like Craig but with darker, longer hair (with the comma that falls onto his forehead) and a scar on his cheek.

He keeps changing dammit! In CR he was DC, LALD he was Moore then halfway through turned into Dalton. Now he looks like an offspring of Dalton and Craig.

I would go off and on with an image of Daniel and an imaginary Bond in my head. Most of it was Daniel though.

That's odd because the Bond I see doesn't look like any of the actors, but he does sound exactly like Connery.. everytime! If I haven't heard Connery speaking in a while, it sounds like my crappy impression of Connery (which is really sad) but the accent gets better if I've seen one of his films recently.. very strange..

Hi,
Might be that this question was already asked in the Literature Threads - if so, please forgive me and merge - if not: I would be interested which Person you have in mind reading the Ian Fleming novels?

I myself am a great reader - but actually never picked up an Ian Fleming novel - ever since my first Bond movie, I thought that this was the kind of stuff I wanted to look on screen but not for a reading.
But coming back to reading - while reading other books I have of course pictures in my mind and just the other day I thought - if I would go out now and would like to read for example Casino Royale - I would of course see Daniel Craig.

Do you actually change the Bond Character within the book as they have changed on screen - or is it always the same - or even no one of the 6 actors?

Thanks,
Brittany

Usually Connery or Dalton, sometimes Craig (with the Flemings that were Connery films, it's very hard not to picture Connery - otherwise, Dalton is probably my default). Never Lazenby, Moore (even though he may well be my all-time favourite 007; there's just very little about him that's literary Bond for me) or Brosnan. I often don't picture anyone in particular at all, though.
