I'm not sure whether to believe him or not, but an entertainment attorney friend of mine was told by a very high-up MGM corporate official that Orlando Bloom is the next Bond.

The MGM official was not particularly happy about it, supposedly preferring Pierce, but is resigned to EON's decision in order to get the film out in time.

It may just be another rumor. But what do you think? Will Bloom make a good Bond? Is he too young? Does he seem sophisticated enough?

Well, Bloom could make a good Bond, but I think he might be a bit young - he turned 27 this year. Possibly in the future, perhaps after whoever will be the next Bond. Bloom could probably be Bond #7.

Exactly. Way to boyish looking and young.

He's 27!

I thought he was 19 or 20 or something! Way too young to play Bond!

But remember when Timothy Dalton was a Bond canidate for Diamonds Are Forever, and he was only 25?

Maybe Bloom could wait a few years to potray Bond, unlikely though.

Yes, thankfully he had the brains to realize he was too young, and rightfully waited.

Hell no!
until now, the producers were always wise enough to pick actors that are not identified with certain characters; they did that to keep the Bond series unique. I don't want Bond to be played by someone who will always be known as "that blue-eyed elf".

You mean like Roger was identified as the Saint? Or like Pierce was identified as Remington Steele?

I wouldn't want an Elf either to play Bond. Hypothetically, if Bloom was cast as Bond, imagine all the flock of money the BOND 21 will bring! Every girl or women in the world won't mind having Bloom as Bond.

But I do mind.

Aw, don't worry Loomis.

He's better than Ledger, anyways. :)

Is he? Not so sure. Ledger at least gets kudos in my book for being able to pull Naomi Watts (although I'm sure Bloom's wife or girlfriend is a looker, too).

Mind you, I just looked at Bloom's pics on the IMDb and found myself thinking he looked like Hugh Jackman's younger brother. He'd definitely be a candidate if, as was rumoured a couple of months ago, the producers are thinking of going back to the young James Bond's first mission. But that's not to say I want him as Bond, of course.

Fair points. They're both too young right now though. Can you see some abilites that can compare themselves to Bond, perhaps, but I would not want to see either of these two getting the role any time soon.

Of course Pierce and Roger were identified with their TV-characters, but IMO these TV series weren't so famous that they could overshadow James Bond.
It's a different thing with Bloom. If they'd hire him, it would seem like they'd bow to the success of his role in LOTR.

He's just too much of a pretty boy right now, most likely because of the many girls staring at him in his elf role. He hasn't gotten to a tough, gritty part yet.

Terrific for him then. The role he had that got girls oogling at him was fine, but I don't think right now he'd be appropriate for Bond.

Agreed, Athena. :)

I've not gone crazy over any of these names mentioned, but the one good thing about Jackman is that at least he's an appropriate age, whereas these others are not.

No, no, they could get that sickening actor, fi you can call him that, Frankie Muniz for that.

He's said it himself, "I'm 18 and look like I'm 10."
