Michael Madsen, who played NSA chief Damian Falco in "Die Another Day" and who is a friend and a neighbour of Pierce Brosnan in California, has told the Toronto Sun that Pierce Brosnan is finished with James Bond. "Pierce lives right down the beach from me. Our kids play together," Madsen said during interviews for his own new movie, Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill: Vol. 2. "And he told me he doesn't want to do another one." Madsen went on saying that he was told that Brosnan will be replaced with an Australian, although he did not know who and could not confirm if it was Hugh Jackman, who has been touted as a possible future Bond. So has Englishman Clive Owen. Pierce Brosnan has said in recent interviews that the producers don't seem to want him back. As CBn reported before, he was quoted saying that a "certain paralysis has set in." He repeated several times that his future as Bond was "opaque". Madsen also said he himself is interested in the new Bond because he was supposed to get a role in it, again as Damian Falco. "Well, I was going to do it with Pierce but, now that Pierce is out of the Bond picture, I don't know what is going to happen. If Barbara Broccoli calls me up and says: 'Michael, I want you to be in the James Bond picture,' I'll probably go do it, but I'm not going to call her. I don't know the new Bond guy. I've never seen anything he's done. I don't even know what he looks like. I can't remember the guy's name. I would have to feel like he's going to be a good Bond for me to want to do it." He also told the newspaper about his experiences on the 'Die Another Day' set: "You know, making a Bond film is not an easy thing to do. That's a heavy shoot, man. That's a long, long, big, big, heavy thing. The Bond thing is a tremendously gigantic production and the last one was hugely successful. For Pierce, that was the fourth one that he did. He's tired, man. You know, he's James Bond. He doesn't have to do another one. Why would you? Why would you bother?" |

And shouldn't he have mentioned something about Tarantino being interested in Casino Royale if they are promoting the same film?

Inded. Interesting...It looks pretty ominous then that Brosnan is gone. If Madsen is a good neighbour then it's unlikely he would be so assertive in that claim if it wasn't true.

What do Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan have in common?
Both of them were replaced by Australians some people in certain circles had never heard of before.

So well. Get us the housekeeper, the butler and not to forget the gardener

Seriously though, it was said that Madsen only got the role in Die Another Day because Brosnan stood up for him.

At this point, I think Eon has a "gag-order" on Pierce until they have the next 007 signed. With Madsen and himself both headed out on PR junkets for their respective films, maybe they both had a brew and after a few smokes Pierce said "Hey Mike, do me a favor if anything about me and Bond should come up..."
Looks like I'd better go up to Madsen's favorite bar in Malibu and start plying him with Crown Royale...
The things I do for CBn...

This is from the Toronto Sun...Where I live in Canada the Winnipeg Sun (the same newspaper network) is more of a gossip style newspaper. The front cover news is often Britney Spears and very important news is but a few pages back. Remember this is the line of newspapers that have the Sunshine Boy and Sunshine Girl as one of their main features. SO truthfully I wouldn't put much trust in the Sun newspapers. The one in my city isn't that great (I cant count the number of false stories they've had) and I'm sure its the same for this one.
If you take a look at the top newstories with this link: http://www.canoe.com...News/home.html you will see that the very first story is if David Beckham is cheating on his wife....hardly anythings newsworthy especially over hear in Canada.

Please, I think the key thing here is that Madsen was being asked Bond questions while doing KILL BILL press. These were probably off-handed comments by an actor trying to push his new film.

Madsen's comments are very close to Tarantino's recent remarks about Casino Royale, Brosnan has been focal about the direction of the series, it's all a ploy to pressure the producers and EON, if they give up and let Pierce do that story, Pierce wins, if they want another big action film then Pierce walks away, he'll come back if they are interested in bringing Bond back to basics.
I think Pierce and the producers had some stand off after die another day finished up, behind the scenes, he must of been disappoininted and leveled something at them, maybe they promised him a cool Bond 21, and as time clicked on, they got scared as Pierce said in doing their character driven Bond pierce etc.

CASINO ROYALE, directed by Quentin Tarantino and starring Pierce Brosnan and (presumably as Felix Leiter) Michael Madsen?I think its a plot, to get Quintin Tarantino, Brosnan and Madsen to do Casino Royale.
Well, that certainly isn't the worst Bond-related idea we've read about this week. Heck, it beats "Young James Bond" hands down.
