Of all the channels AMC has to be one of the best because they really have very few commercials...It's not like Spike TV which seems to have more commercials than programming!

Yes, I remember how AMC used to air several movies commerical free! It was quite enjoyable then.

Alas, if other stations would do that to the Bond films. It would make the entire experience a whole lot more enjoyable for everyone. Not all the time, but once in a while.

I gather that AMC has acquired the rights to a number of the Bond films which (if true) is great news!!!

LOL! Yes, it seems that someday, every US channel will have shown them at one time or another. :)

The American cable network, American Movie Classics (AMC) will air a James Bond Marathon beginning on January 7th, and ending on January 14, 2004.

The marathon, which will only feature the 007 films of Sean Connery and Roger Moore, is also sponsoring a contest for viewers to win a trip to London.

Hopefully, this time around, the commerical breaks will be shorter than the films themselves. :)

Yes, well, that's what I get for not being on for a few days. I did ask a certain other staffer, who shall remain nameless if a thread was up and he said no.

Thanks anyway.

Thanks for the official update Xen!

Does anyone know if AMC also got the rights to AVTAK from TBS? It would be nice to see if any other channel got that one to air.

Thanks. :)

I agree Dlib. I watched the Halloween marathon they had on Halloween and I had to flip back every 30 sec. to see if it was back on because they dont show that many commercials.

I don't know if anyone here has watched AMC lately, but I cannot imagine a worse venue for watching any movie (have never watched Spike), much less a Bond film, than on AMC. That used to be a good station. Now it is filled with long commercial breaks...a high percentage of which is having one or two people standing in the frame talking about what movies they like to watch on AMC. I'm not sure what the point is of advertising a channel that people are already watching. That's like playing a trailer for a film you're waiting to see. It's probably creative accounting at work: paying yourselves exorbitant commercial fees to show a loss.

If you stick around for the end credits, you'll see that AMC has joined the ranks of other "free cable stations" by cramping the picture down to about 25% of the screen so they can add in more self-promoting and pointless spots.

I guarantee it won't take many of you long to absolutely hate watching the Bond films on AMC.

Ah, thought so! *Devin fianlly finds his taped copy of 'Bond Girls Are Forever* Hmmm, not in great condition, perhaps I should buy the documentary on DVD from eBay. Not too bad a price, or I can always tape this airing of it though! :)

The DVD was free to people who bought DAD at "Best Buy". If I hadn;t received a free copy of DAD from MGM Marketing (and already owned the Region 2 release) I probably would have shopped there.

Incidently the said documentary seems to appear quite regularly on AMC. One morning as I was getting ready for work about a month ago I was flicking through the channels and came across it on AMC.

Yes, I almost got DAD at Best Buy for that DVD, but I went to Media Play because they were offering a similar free special too. :)

Is AMC doing this to all of their theaters nationwide? I live in Minnesota and I didn't know about this until a few minutes ago. Since they would have a big marathon, they must be having them soon. Is there a place where I can find some more information? Thanks.

Yes. They're both very nice special features. It's nice to have them both! When deciding on buying the DVD, I wasn't looking at the price, I was looking at what else they were giving with it! :)

Didn't watch Dr. No, but I noticed that the commercials for it were in widescreen. Did anyone watch it and see if they actually showed it in widescreen?

They've got a contest and a little Bond girl quiz on their site (http://www.amctv.com).

I'm actually not sure Xen, I'll have to check later, but it has a very similar format to the DAD DVD. I'll check later and post it. :)
