Heh heh. When I was a smoker and among friends, I used to bum fags all the time - and we also eat baked beans out of the can in England!:)

Niet, nine and No friggin way! The films lately are low quality as is. A TV show will be even worse...how about every 2 yrs, preferably late summer? :)

I'm decisive on whether we should see Brosnan's Bond smoking in a scene. I was rather glad to see him enjoy a good cigar in Cuba In DAD, but I'm beginning to wonder whether it was put in there for the scene, or just as a subtle wink to Roger's Bond and his cigars. It would be rather odd to see him puffin' away in Bond 21, when he just punched out a guy smoking in TND and saying that it was a filthy habit.

Since it's so true to the character, I wouldn't mind seeing Bond at least stub out a cigarette at the beginning of a casino scene, in the same manner of DN. Only he's putting it out instead of lighting it. It's not so much about political correctness, but if it's fashionable (which it was in the 60's) anymore. Might be cool to see him do it as part of his cover, mind you.

Then again, we did see Michael Madsen light one up after Icarus is destryed in DAD, so MGM may not be totally against it. But again, it would be rather daft to have Brosnan light it up in what may be his last film, when he hasn't done it in the past four sodding films.

Just to clear up an earlier post, Roger never had lung cancer. He did have a cancer scare, some benign polyps were removed but, no lung cancer. Trying to remember what part of his body the cancer scare was.

I don't compare Cigar smoking to cigarette smoking. I don't know why anyone made a big deal about Brosnan's cigar smoking. I enjoy a good Cohiba every now and then but i'm not a smoker.Moderate Cigar smoking isn't going to cause health problems...

Isn't it also possible that Bond might be a *casual* smoker of cigs? (Or "fags")? I know nicotine is an extremely addictive drug (far more addictive than just about all illegal drugs like heroin) but I do know people who smoke casually. One of my cousins smokes about 2 or 3 cigs every couple of days, that's all he needs.

I wonder if Roger Moore kicked the habit of his infamous cigar smoking after his bout with lung cancer?! Anyone have any information on this?

Doesn't 007 have a few onscreen puffs on a cigar during the Cuba sequence too?

I was referring to cigarette smoking, though.

I wonder whether we'll ever see 007 smoking anything other than cigars or cigarettes? Maybe if he went back to Amsterdam.... Hmmm.... maybe not.

DLibrasnow, where do you stand on the subject of Bond As A Cigarette Smoker? I ask since your favourite Bond is Moore, and he was never seen smoking cigarettes.

I was positive that Rog had lung cancer, and only recently recovered!

Oh well. Even if it was benign, I'm still positive it had something to do with the lungs.

Then again, maybe I'm just positively mistaken.

But Connery did. Remember Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd in DAF? He smoked their a**es!

Sorry, I couldn't resist the opportunity to make an off-color joke.

I think Connery also had a health scare a few years back, something to do with his throat.

That's right. I think it was sometime in the mid-eighties and had to do with smoking. It was either a throat polyp or some sort of benign tumor. Anyway, I don't think he's smoked since.

On a personal level I think smoking is a filthy, unhealthy and quite disgusting habit...

its just a fact in this day and time the watchdogs are out in full force and dont want things like smoking to be seen, in the 60s 70s and the 80s you could but now smoking is not tolerated, the soccer moms are taking over and bond is still bond without the cigs.......bond not smoking is not a bad thing

"K-mart butt"? :) Forgive me, I'm British, but.... what on earth is "K-mart butt"?

If Bond is going to smoke in the films again, let's have him smoking heavily: lighting up after a kill, after sex, during discussions with M and Robinson.... in short, behaving like a proper smoker. The last thing I want to see is 007 smoking like a wuss.

Hang on, wasn't even Connery seen smoking fags on only a couple of occasions, and not at all in most of his films?

If any Bond needs a ciggarette it's Pierce's. He's had so many personal crisis; betrayal, torture, loosing a loved one, having an abrasive female boss, money penny loosing her charm and beauty...having to wear cheap watches and drive pedestrian cars(before Vanquish-Parliment raise taxes?).:)

I don't take it personally. I just like Bond to stay true to his roots and having him become part of the pleasure police(anti-smoking crusade) doesn't sit well with me... If he smokes, so what? If he doesn't smoke anymore because Brosnan wants to set a positive example to kids than that's just stupid. He is, afterall, an assassin. In fact Brosnan doesn't smoke but his Bond has possibly the highest body count via machine gun fire...
