I don't know about that. While they are definitely connected to the "establishment" now, I think they are still honest in their opinions. They tell it as it is.

But that's why I love the talk-backers. There is no control there whatsoever. They call a spade a spade (and worse).

Jim will probably have a chuckle at all the suing for libel stuff I've posted :)

I've nothing against BondFinesse I was just giving him a (what might be called) a friendly warning. :)

I also had to be careful what I wrote about BondFinesse, cause if I accused him of making a false accusation then I'd be libelling him. That's why I wrote that I was not accusing him of making a false accusation.

I was once slandered by some madman (well he was mad in my opinion)

He said in front of some people that I was harrassing him and I was not. I had witnesses that I'd done nowt to him and that it was bull.

I wonder how much dough I coulda made. I regret not suing him.

This guy carried a knife or razor in his pocket for protection (so I was told) and said that he had a good mind to get the cops.

I didn't say that Jim was the cause for the way Brosnan may have acted. I offered it as a possibility. I can tell from Jim's posts that he isn't always a pleasant person -- who is always a pleasant person?

Give it a rest. This isn't a kindergarten classroom.

The only way what I said above should have been taken as an insult is if it were true. I'm not saying it is and I'm not saying it is not. It's up to Jim as to how he wants to take it.

The Bond films would arguably have done roughly the same amount of business with or without Brosnan.

Maybe the first film of the 90's would have, but I doubt people would still be flocking to see a Bond film if Emilio Estevez was starring as Bond.

That's true. I just took it that you were suggesting that Jim had to be talking nonsense about Brosnan purely because Brosnan had always been nice to you and to people you know.

Sure, Jim's posts can be harsh. So can mine, and so can those of most of us who post here. But your post did seem to verge on implying that Jim was either lying about Brosnan's bad behaviour or had been the cause of it.

But I guess Jim should be the one discussing this with you. I am neither willing nor able to speak on his behalf, and I'm sure he's more than capable of responding to your posts and arguing his point of view, should he choose to do so - scratch that, I know he is.

I don't think Jim is lying about what Brosnan said, and I wouldn't say otherwise because only he and Brosnan would know for sure what was said. I don't find what Brosnan said particularly bad, either, because it was just a joke. There are a lot of people in wheelchairs who would have laughed at the comment, but apparently it was taken wrong.

Macca, what you did (precisely) was to call into question his respectability. Once you have questioned a person's ability to be a good human being, then yes; I call that an insult.

Whoops! Just spotted this! What an amazing comment! Yes, I too would find it funny if Alan Partridge had said it, or Pierce and the subject of his 'jibe' were friends; but to someone you've just met?!

I think someone needs to go to manners school, n'est-pas?

Well, that is moot- its never happened before to the extent of interest in Beckham: press and many different marketing campaigns have lead to him becoming a brand, thus creating many jobs in the sector not even related to football (M&S, Police sunglasses etc.). So, he has given enjoyment and money to many, many people. I'm not sure its happened before or could happen if he was someone else.

ROFLMAO! :) :) She always did appear like she was a tad eccentric on interviews! How did you get onto the topic of her knickers? [/b]

I met her at the Cubby tribute at the NFT (I also met Michael Wilson and John Glen who were...polite) where we got talking about the auction of Bond stuff that had happened that day (the one where Oddjob's hat got sold). I got into her knickers as a result of her putting some up for sale, which it turned out weren't the ones from GF, but just very similar. Utterly barking.
I remember a fan came up and wanted to take a photo of her. She thought he was my mate and kept edging towards me, eventually I had no option but to smile for this poor bloke's picture. So sorry, whoever you are; that guy you took a photo of standing next to the Golden Girl was me!

Well, that's why I said 'arguably'; but there's no real president for a Bond film failing, so I think its quite tricky to say that.

And Emilio Estevez? Lets try and keep this discussion above primary school level, shall we?

Well it was a pretty stupid thing to say I think, although we all stupid things at one point or another. I don't think the question is weather or not it was a bad comment, which it almost certainly was, but rather weather or not it's typical of his character. Having not met him, and refusing to rely on what other people say, I can't answer the question one way or the other.

Anyway, congrats to him.

That's a fair comment, but I think if you say something like that to someone you've just met they're entirely justified to have a low opinion of you. First impressions count and all that...

Not sure whether you're bothered or not, but purely in the spirit of public service and since you've said this a few times, it's n'est-ce pas.

A propos of nothing, since Jim has been absent from this thread for the last couple of pages, does anyone really think he gives two s--ts whether people think what he said was said, really was said or not.

And a propos of nothing again, what really disturbs me is that whenever I commence a thread that I feel maybe of debateable worth, ie worth debating, not worthless, my threads have a shelf life of about ten posts, a third of which might be mine. No bugger is interested. And a little nothing news item like this can spawn a mega thread.

Quite evidently I've yet to discover the secret to a good thread topic. There's still time.

If Brosnan and Jim were old friends, I'm sure the comment would have been taken as a harmless joke. We don't know whether Brosnan made it on his first meeting with Jim or on his third, but either way, it seems extraordinary that Brosnan would have felt able to make a quip like that on the strength of such slight acquaintance. Could it be that, as a celebrity, Brosnan imagined that Jim "knew" him well enough through his work to realize that he was simply making banter that was not intended as in any way malicious? Or that Jim would be so starstruck and happy to be in his company that he wouldn't really care about what was said?

Who knows?

Anyway, that's it from me on this thread.

Well, still unperturbed and undaunted by a complete lack of thread starting success, I might just start a thread on "Your favourite Bond girl" or "Which Bond had the best toenails" or something equally moronic that seems to capture the imagination of the posting populace.

Bitter? No. Just fascinated by the way in which some things runaway and others don't.

Maybe I'm thinking too much.

(I have very little work to do at present as the project I'm on has been stopped for the last three weeks and while I'm still being paid a handsome daily rate, I have precious little else to focus the attentions on. ha ha)

You might yet see a thread on Best Bond girl's knickers.

Well, quite evidently he did!

Reference the honours question, happy to take your word for it - the intellectual level of this thread has risen far above discussing the justification of an award.

The search for the multi answer thread goes on. Maybe I will just start a thread on Bond girls' knickers, Mark seems to be up for it and then hopefully someone will call me an idiot or a liar and we can just see where it takes us.

This is so unbelievably stupid. We should be congratulating the man, not debating whether he deserves this or not. And if you want my opinion, I think a lot of the people in this thread saying he doesn't deserve the award are the same people that criticize him and won't accept him as Bond.
